ANA rules issue (Merged)

USGA = Pure total JUNK!

Again, this is NOT a USGA event it's a TV show run by a business, the LPGA Tour.

Then what ruling body does the LPGA follow for their rules? Answer please...

It's not a USGA issue per say. It's the LPGA that choose to respond to the call. There is not rule forcing the LPGA to review every call in they receive.

Why they haven't changed this "everyone's a zebra" rule is beyond reason. What if basketball was officiated in this way? What if fans were calling balls and strikes? What if they were calling "What is a catch?" in football.

The rule should be no outside sources or when the round ends for everyone, the round ends.

The TV golf tours choose to abide by the Rules of Golf. It's their choice. They can, if they want, take mulligans or play naked. The USGA is not responsible for what happens outside their own events.

Knowledge of the Rules is part of the applied skill set which a player must use to play competitive golf.

I thought the eventual winner should have gone to the green and intentionally mismarked her ball ala Lexi to make a mockery of these rules.

That's just a trash rule. No improvement in lie, shot difficulty. Anything. Total bogus call. These kind of rules are what makes the game unenjoyable to new people. She moved it less than a coin. Cmon man.

Exactly one of the many reasons why golf is losing popularity, the rules are to complicated. Calling in about a rule a day later is insane, equivalent to calling pass interference the next day. Sad day for the rules of golf .

She broke a very simple rule. I agree about calling penalties after the day is over and the next round has started.

Ping G400 Testing G410.  10.5 set at small -
Ping G410 3, 5 and 7 wood

Ping G410 5 hybrid-not much use.
Mizuno JPX 921 Hot Metal. 5-G
Vokey 54.10, 2009 58.12 M, Testing TM MG2 60* TW grind and MG3 56* TW grind.  Or Ping Glide Stealth, 54,58 SS.
Odyssey Pro #1 black
Hoofer, Ecco, Bushnell
ProV1x-mostly

So, theoretically, since the infraction occurred yesterday, could I call in something I saw today for the person who won, and tomorrow they assess the penalty and take away the trophy and give it to Lexi?

Allowing people to call in is the dumbest thing in sports.

I don't think you can call in or email an infraction once you sign your card after the tournament has concluded

No, the results have been announced and the competition is closed. You can't do anything.

Makes the call in that much more idiotic.

Sui, how do you feel the USGA would have handled the same situation? In my opinion, there was no other way out...

Distasteful as many of us find today's events, had this been a USGA or R&A event, the outcome would have been the same. After all, a couple of years ago the player would have suffered a DQ.

Knowledge of the Rules is part of the applied skill set which a player must use to play competitive golf.

Please specify the rule whereby the LPGA is compelled to review every possible rules infraction called in by someone around the world.

Ball misplaced with no intention to cheat and no advantage gained. Best we can tell completely accidental and apparently imperceptible to the player at the time she placed the ball. A 4 stroke penalty is beyond ridiculous IMO.

Surely every marked ball is not perfectly replaced to the exact location/precise blade of grass? What's the allowable margin for error (if there is one) assuming the player does her best to replace the ball to its original location?

After the day's competition or after the tournament?

Do yourself a favor and read Rule 34. You'll then know the real answer and not the bogus ones proffered by those who don't know the Rules.

Knowledge of the Rules is part of the applied skill set which a player must use to play competitive golf.

It's just sad, IMHO. While it won't be pointed at specifically by those who don't know it, the people who tell me they don't want to try and play golf because "of all the stupid rules" seem a little less whiny and a little more justified every time something like this happens.

I wouldn't know the wording to rewrite the rule, or what to do about it, but there ought to be some sort of common sense clause in the rules. Did she give herself a distinct advantage? No. Great, move along, go find something else to do other than sending golf tours emails whining about a ball being moved mere inches, if that.

EDIT: And I don't care if the rule being stupid isn't the actual issue as some might tell me. Agree on not calling in things after the fact, too.

They simply need to pick a cut-off and no adjustments can be made after that. I'd think that once the first player tees off the next day, they close the book on the previous round.

I don't think it's helpful to argue whether she really replaced it in the same place (she didn't), or whether it's enough to penalize. There's nothing wrong with the rule regarding replacing the ball, the problem is in the timing.

Total BS, if the LPGA wants to do this, they should have at least 2 officials accompanying each flight and then review the shots on the green, make the round 7 hours long but that's only fair.

Lexi got totally robbed, I was hoping she made that eagle putt on the 18th and just stick a finger to the LPGA.
