She clearly violated the rule as nitpicky as it is. I'm not saying she did it on purpose. But if someone were to do it on purpose it wouldn't necessarily be to get the ball closer to hole, but perhaps to get ball out of slight depression where the ball lay. With that said, what I don't get is the additional 2 shot penalty for signing incorrect card.

 

Was she supposed to anticipate a crazy ruling from left field and sign her card accordingly?? lol... It's just nutty all around.

Everyone knows damn well that EVERY player did not always re-place their ball 'exactly' where it was before it was marked.

Besides the absurdity that viewers at home can influence a tournament, I think she deserved 2 strokes, not 4. If they would have told her the day before, she doesn't sign the scorecard incorrectly, instead the LPGA goofs this up badly.

This has probably been said already, but here's what I thought at the time:

 

Ryu should have dinked her tee shot on the first playoff hole into the water and effectively conceded the hole. That was the only way out of this within the rules. Fate presented Ryu with the opportunity to prevent nonsense from affecting the outcome, but she tossed it aside.

 

Everyone knows—especially the other players—that Lexi's mark/replacement issue did not materially affect the outcome of the tournament.

 

This is a disaster.

Lol...no offense to the mods. I think y'all do a great job. I know I have no pull, but I think this issue is not specific to the LPGA Tour since it seems to be happening across all Tours over the last several years.

Exactly one of the many reasons why golf is losing popularity, the rules are to complicated. Calling in about a rule a day later is insane, equivalent to calling pass interference the next day. Sad day for the rules of golf .

Does any golfer ever place the coin exactly to begin with? I'm sure during a round I'm a 1/4"-3/8" away from the "exact" spot and I'm a stickler for the rules.

I think it's unintentional mistake made by Lexi..

Even after the penalty, I still see her marking the ball from the side. Maybe it's a habit.

Allowing the call in a day late is not complicated, just needs to be changed.

Just another reason golf rules committee is turning fans in to enemies. The ball was moved maybe an inch, not sure why this would even be a penalty since there is no clear ruling on who decides what is the exact spot to put the ball back to.

 

While we are at this, calling this a sport and penalize players for having a heavy stick or warm up device when the course gets backed up is a joke too.

The FBI requires intent, why not the LPGA? 4 shots when no advantage was gained is messed up.
