New Red Odyssey O-Works putters: 2017 Dean & DeLuca

Recommended Posts

Actually this is not true. TM does not allow anyone but DJ to play a black one. I'm susrprised more Pro's just don't go out and buy the black ones at retail and put them in play if TM is not letting them have one.

Actually, this is not true. Sung Kang and others are playing the black version also. It's not just DJ

How about they release the all black before any cherry red?

I agree! Are they going to release the black?

I'm just telling you what all their tour reps (including Keith, Wade and Sean) told me when I was on the tour van last week. Kevin Na asked for a black one and they told him its red or nothing. Notice how all the photos of the demo putters on the putting green are red. I wouldn't be surprised if someone like Kang went and bought a retail black one.

Curious move. A few years ago, no other OEM would have put white drivers on Tour because the public would see them and think they were TaylorMade drivers. If anyone puts a red Odyssey in play, you run that same risk with people assuming it's a TaylorMade putter. I don't get it.

This color is terrible... Just release the head/ neck combos to retail and let the consumer spray paint the top if they really want a Red putter. Why would a company so obviously rip off a competitors product? have some decency Odyssey

BTW... the Spider Tour Red is popular on tour because the insert is softer than the Tour Black insert and more players prefer that feel over the firmer Tour Black insert. i don't think the color has much to do with the popularity of the head/ insert combo. Just marketing

Actually... Sung Hoon Kang has been using the Spider Black - see witb http://www.golfwrx.c...kang-witb-2017/ .

I may be incorrect in stating the reason I believe the Red is more popular on tour, but I don't believe it has anything to do with the Red being more aesthetically pleasing to a large percentage of players or Taylormade limiting use of the Black. Now, if someone from Taylormade wants to tell me i'm wrong then i'm all ears.

I think Taylormade says Red comes with polymer insert and Black comes with steel insert and they aren't wiling to mix and match.

I kinda like it.

Is it a blatant ripoff of the TM Spider? Absolutely. But it seems each auto manufacturer makes a black car, even though Ford's Model T began the trend.

I do like the idea of putter manufactures allowing a custom option. Make mine Chicago blue.

Release the slant necks already. Love the way the 1w looks and also the 7. Color wise I could care less but it's obviously paying a tribute to the red spider.

I'm telling you their entire tour rep staff is telling you that you're wrong. I had a conversation with them all in the tour trailer on Wednesday. I don't care either way, I'm telling people straight from the horses mouth. I think you're getting caught up in semantics. My guess is they gave players the choice early before they got popular and then sale took off. Once they saw sales spike, they decided to no longer allow the black spiders because they don't scream TM Spider on TV like the red one does because no one else has that red...well at least until this week.

Inspired by a venomous spider from Australia?

I kinda like them though. Flow necks, no Versa!

I would love the all black slant neck # 7! If I was being really picky, I'd ask that they make the size a tad larger like the White Hot Pro version.

Then again, a custom #7 WHP with the micro hinge insert would do just fine!

Crazy that Kevin Na would play a Taylormade putter. Did not see that coming.

One would think if they could get a Scotty Cameron main stay to convert to one they would let him play whatever color he wanted.
