I don't think one can rule out marketing for that dude. If this thread didn't exist, the club tech wasn't known and written on the head, and pros weren't playing and tweeting it I doubt he'd pick it from a random lineup of other drivers to buy new.

Do you know if there will be additional weights available... I had to add a 12G weight to my LS to get it "right" launch wise... Rogue Silver felt amazing, but launched to low... Black, didn't feel as good, or give me the results. 12G weight brought the ball up.

If there's one thing I liked about my Titleist 913s it's the weight kit. Able to dial in feel on four clubs. I do wish Ping would pick a shape, stick with it several years, and sell the kits.

It would be nice to get an OEM kit from Ping, probably cheaper too.

I actually have some of those aftermarkets. Titleist also put the weights in their hybrids, so that's a super extra bonus. I'd like official support. $10 each or $30 for a 5 weight kit. Simple, and appropriate.

Titleist is the biggest rip off for their weight kits $180 for 917D kit, $169 for 917F kit, $95-$100 for 816 kit. So far nobody has bothered to do third party weights...pretty bad when a single weight kit (2 tubes) costs what a dozen premium balls cost.

 

Ping seemed to use 5 or 7 gram weights in all the G drivers regardless of shaft. Must have adjusted with various head weights. Lightest I saw was a 4 gram from them. They don't like to sell weights going back to the G30, so I doubt the G400 will be any different. Probably feel it compromises their design and somebody might wind up with a very light or heavy club.

I bought weights off eBay for like 20 bucks or something... had 8/12/14/16 gram weights. The Ping rep suggested I go with the something in the 10-11 gram area, so I started with the 8, then the 12... ended up with the 14 i believe.

I was actually thinking of upgrading my G15's and really like the look of the G's. I like that the G's are less bulky than the G15's but I wouldn't want to shift too much towards a "players cavity". I like the SGI line.

Its definitely still a game improvement iron. Just slimmed down looking at it at address. Didn't get a chance to hit them when the rep brought them by, but they looked sweet.

It does still have the "goofy looking eye thing", yes. But they've dressed it up. To be honest I'm not one of the guys that cares a great deal about how a club looks in the cavity/on the sole. At address - sure. In my bag - DGAF

There is another web site that has done detailed CG and MOI measurements of driver heads. The 2016 chart shows that the CG of the Ping G is furthest from the face of any driver of 2016 and had the highest MOI. There is a limit on MOI and at some point more isn't always better. Think Nike Sumo SQ2 5900.

People love to hate on that old SQ2, but it did win two majors...

I hope they're the same as the G's with a very minor tune up. The G's are better at the long end (larger distance gaps between clubs which I need and the short end (PW-Gap) have smaller soles, less offset, better shape for chipping or half shots from <100, compared to my G15's. I'd buy the G's today but I hate to buy something that gets replaced this quickly when all I got off was $100. I haven't bought new irons in 5-6 years, if you don't screw this up PING I'll give you my money today! :)
