I just got one of these off eBay, protopype 80x and took it out to the range, was nearly keeping up with 915D4 and felt like I couldn't miss the target. Bought it after reading this thread and always wanted to try an original protopype, Really solid combo

Was finally able to play with my reshafted 905. Honestly, I think it is the most solid driver I have ever played with. The feel is second to none and there was no discernible drop off in distance from the Aeroburner I have. After an all in of $175, I’m extremely extremely pleased with going back to the 905. Here are some pics of the final product.

just picked up one of these shafts to put in a 905r. I'm assuming you had the head blind bored? If so how deep? Probably going to attempt to do it myself.

With the 905's you need to make sure you bore it down low enough, to minimize stress put on the aluminum hosel piece during use. They can break otherwise. I would go down at least 2" from the top of the hosel

Since Im been looking for a new to me driver, after reading this thread I bought one fir $56 off ebay with a Stiff Pro Force shadt 10.5 degrees. Played it last night with some good and some bad results. Tonight I hit it well as Im learning it. Its onky 10 to 15 yards more than my 3w, but more accuate it seems as I get acquainted with it.

I thought I woukd get more yardage so I had the pro hit it tonight. He loved it andcsaid it waa fine. It has a jumbo grip ao I will assume a few extra yards once I get my size grio on it.

Nice club.

Loved my 905R with Grafalloy Blue shaft. Stayed in the bag until the 910 knocked it out. Still gaming the 910 with Rombax X-type shaft. Nothing since has come close.

A 905 driver with an updated shaft might do wonders. I put a Graphite Design Tour AD DI 6S in my 905S (full bore) and 905T (blind bore of almost 3 inches). Both drivers are 9.5 degrees. The low spin low/mid launch shaft seems to make this driver close to current day drivers for me. It's about 10-15 yards shorter than my Taylormade M3 9.5 degree driver but more accurate and I am able to work the ball better with the 905 drivers. I find that the 905T is a little more forgiving than the 905S but these two drivers are back in the rota for my bag. I have never gamed a 905R because I wanted the smaller headed driver (again, for the ability to work the ball).

Driver:  TaylorMade 300 Mini 11.5° (10.2°), Fujikura Ventus Blue 5S Velocore

3W:  TaylorMade M4 15°, Graphite Design Tour AD DI 7S

Hybrid:  TaylorMade Sim2 2 Iron Hybrid 17°, Mitsubishi Tensai AV Raw Blue 80 stiff

Irons:  Mizuno Pro 223 4-PW, Nippon Modus3 Tour 120 stiff

LW:  Scratch Golf 1018 forged 58° DS, Nippon Modus3 Tour 120 stiff

Putter:  Byron Morgan Epic Day custom, Salty MidPlus cork grip

Grips:  BestGrips Augusta Microperf leather slip on

Loved the 905R. Is there a newer Titleist Driver that is similar? I am really looking for driving accuracy. I hit more fairways with Titleist drivers but have been chasing distance with my last few drivers ( TM tour burner and TM M2).

> Hmmm....I have one loaded with a Fuji 652. Might bag it this weekend just to see how it hits, its been a while.

Had to assemble the 905R last night, forgot I pulled the shaft a few years ago. Glued it up, put it in the bag.

Played a quick nine this afternoon, hit the 905 off 4/9 tees. Not sure the glue was 100% set!

I have been pushing everything this season, usually when I am trying to hit a cut or fade. Hit a bomb off the second tee, about 270. It was a low screamer, slight draw, lotsa roll. Not a great effort, I hit it a little high off the center. Hit my typical pushed fade off the next two times I used it. Both flew long, just off to the right. Last hole it all came together, I zipped a mid trajectory bullet with a little fade, 291yds, my longest in a while!

It's a no nonsense, no frills driver. It feels really solid, I think the bore through adds to that solid feel. I think the shaft is a bit shorter than the drivers I have been playing, I felt more comfortable with the shorter shaft.

I'll keep it in play, not hitting the 910 or Epic Sub Zero any better..

No clue.

It was sitting in my closet for quite a while. At some point, I wanted to use the Fuji 652 in it for something else. The club repair guy took a while to pull it, I ended up playing the 910 with an Evo 661 instead. I picked it up in two pieces. Last night I just glued it up and popped it in, the tip went in about 3 inches. I need to sand the bottom flush, and I totally forgot a ferrule..

Lol..

So I have been having a bad spell with the driver, I'm all over place, no consistency.

I bought a few 905ts this winter/spring, dropping down to 400cc was fun.

I'm flipping through shafts, so the bore through design on these is not conducive to multiple shaft changes. I bought a Japanese Issue 14 VG3 to fiddle with.

My 905r is still here though, I might bag it next round.

Have a 10.5* on the way and am either going to put an AD DI or a Ventus Blue in it. Anyone else tried either combo?

I've tried a tensei pro white 60tx and a tensei pro orange 70tx. 905r spins a fair bit compared to today's offerings but with the right loft and shaft it's not that far off the new stuff. Those shafts need to be blind bored though.

I had the best run I have ever had with the 905R. It had a Fujikura shaft that looked like chrome. Can anyone recall that shaft? This would have been 2006-2008 time frame.

I would pick up that driver again in a minute if I could find it. The other key for me is that I had my best golf driving days with a 46 inch driver. I could tell 45.75 versus 46 inches just by holding the club. For whatever reason, I just swung  the 46 inch much smoother. Was able to time everything so much better. Playing my Ping G425 at 45.25 inches and cant get the hang of it.

After reading this thread I picked up a 905r with a ys6+ shaft in S flex for $25 today.

I normally play a 10.5 loft in regular but my ballflight tends to be high so I’d like to lower it and get some more rollout.

I hit 25 balls or so at the driving range and like it so far, it is way more workable than any of the newer drivers I have played.

I was trying to get a feel for it hitting intentional hooks and intentional slices and I could do either easily. Hopefully over the next several weeks I can dial in a straight flight with it.

I’m comfortable with tools so wouldn’t hesitate to cut and drill for a new shaft if the ys6+ doesn’t cut it, though I read in another thread on here it plays soft for a stiff shaft.

I took the 905R out on the course for the first time, fantastic results. First drive on the first hole was my longest drive ever on that hole at my home course.

6 of 7 drives in play, several GIRs converted. I was wary of the lower loft at 9.5 than my usual 11 but neither it nor the stiff shaft instead of my usual regular were a problem.

It is every bit as good as the new PXG, Callaway, Tour Edge, and Ping drivers I've hit from what I see.
