I just don't get the 63 talk... It should be score relative to par, so a 63 on a par 72 is more impressive than a 63 on a par 71 and even more so than on a par 70. Simple math will tell you this.

 

So for today, a 61 is needed to tie the best round in a major championship (i.e. 9 under), not a 63 or even a 62. The mark for best round in a major championship is simply 10 under right now, no matter what par is.

Pretty worthy if you ask me... A very impressive round, one of the best ever in a major championship. It's just not the best. It's the lowest score ever in a major championship, but not the lowest round. It's really not difficult to understand.

Anyone else think DJ's strategy has been slightly off so far? Seems a little bit on the conservative side, for example I think it was on the last hole Rory ripped a drive miles down there over everything. DJ takes an iron out despite a bunker clearly being in range with it, mulls it over, then proceeds to put it straight in the bunker.

 

He's not played amazing this week but I always think he plays better when he's positive and doesn't over think things. You don't want DJ thinking, you want him on automatic.

 

I know conditions are much, much easier today but DJ has been attacking the course today and it's made all the difference.

Not exactly sure what you're point is, but it's only been done twice at Augusta and they play the Masters there every year. It's speculation, but I'm guessing if the Open Championship were played every year at Birkdale, there would have been many more 63s there...
