2017 Callaway X Forged (2018 Spotted Pics)

It's interesting that these haven't been out on tour for a while. Makes me think they were aimed more at just a retail release than targeted towards the tour players. With how many guys are still playing the 2013 X Forged, I would have thought they would have switched over already if they were great...

You will probably see people switching after the tour championship.

Yeah probably. But I'm just saying that them going into players bags essentially the same week they go to retail is odd. And I know guys in the tour department and this hasn't been floating around long and being tested for months like the usually process.

Those look awesome, however the muscle behind the club looks lessened compared to the 2013 which may decrease forgiveness and a "solid" feel (I could be mistaken).

Classic Callaway design. I wonder how this compares to the TM 790

They don't at all. True players iron vs GI iron trying to look less GI. These will have true lofts, fly shorter, and spin more than the 790. Not even the same category.

Actually the lofts are somewhat strong. 45* PW. Can't help but think Phil played a role in that.

That makes them even more appealing to me. Will probably line up with the lofts I currently play. I just hope they're in the sub $1,200 for 8 clubs with good shaft options.

I wonder if the lofts will be that strong when they are released in the US. That would be a big change from the 2013 model.

I still don't think they will be as large as the 790. TM used the lines of the club to somewhat hide the size but the 790 is very large when compared side by side with an AP 2 or CB which is the category I would have put the previous x forged in.

Yes. Lofts are the same in the US. These are not designed to be a multi material iron to compete with an AP2 or 790 type iron.

Will these blend as nicely with the new mb?

Finish is different, mirror chrome vs a more satin but shaping is good. Will blend well with new UT which is coming in 2-6 irons!

The CB is multi-material as well, as is the Wilson V6, is that the size comparison for these or are they larger?

According to the Alba website linked to on GoldWRX's home page (http://www.alba.co.jp/gear/column/article?title_id=11&id=3339), according to the two Japanese pros they spoke to, the face is bigger compared to the previous model and has a bigger sweet spot, and they feel soft. According to the Calloway tour rep who was there with them, the width and shape of the grooves is supposed to make it difficult to produce flyers, some female pros may use them, and they are due for release in October, but the rep was deliberately vague about that last part.

One of the pros (Fukabori Keiichiro) said he really liked them but couldn't understand why they were releasing them now. He wanted them before the current season started!

One of the pros loved the amount of bounce and the turf interaction. Said they didn't dig too much or bounce too much. After impact, the club just pops back up without too much effort. Feel and sound is good. One seems to be saying the ball flight is different, like one club higher, but they are no longer than his current irons (2013 X-forged).

There's more, but I'm tired, and they are the main bits.

Did someone say CF18? Maybe these are the new forged line and the Apex pro name will be a thing of the past. I hope they do not put those tiny groves on these.

Agree with others the 2007 X forged were better looking than either of these messes. Always thought the 13s were a terrible let down from the 07s

Probably the most truthful, factual, accurate comment the site will see today.

To each their own, the 13's are still one of my favorite iron sets.

Of course each to their own but there is no comparison between those and the 07. It's not even remotely debatable and what the poster said is 100% accurate. New isn't always better.

Very interesting to me. I'm probably buying a new set of 6-PW, or maybe 5-PW in the near future. A more forgiving 6i would help at my course, where I normally hit 6i on three of our four par 3's. This set is looking more interesting to me whenever I pick up a new factoid about it. 45* PW- good for me. 6i in UT- good for me.

They feel really good. If my memory serves, these are slightly longer heel-to-toe than the '13 model, but still in that players' cavity range. The blades are fantastic as well.
