*UPDATE in OP* Buyer ( markjinc ) Saying He Didn't Buy My Putter But He's Selling It On BST

So I just got an email from PayPal this morning stating that this gentleman is claiming he did not authorize the transaction in which he bought a button back head and custom shop cover from me. Obviously a mistake as he received the item and turned around to sell it on the BST. Attached is the link for his ad after he received it from me, as well as the link to my sale of it. Along with the feedback we gave each other.

Just wondering how to go about this, as it was an $830 sale for the head and cover. PayPal says they have the tracking and delivery confirmation, and they don't need me to do anything else at the moment. I've contacted him but no response yet. Just a little nervous.

 

10/05/2017 UPDATE-

I received an email from PayPal this morning that I am covered under their Seller Protection Policy and have had the funds released to me and account available to use again. Also spoke with a rep and was told they covered me because of the diligence in using insured and tracked shipping, as well as the documentation I had saved and provided to them. I can't stress diligence enough, especially with higher dollar transactions. So now it is in PayPal's hands to do what they can to recover their money from the buyer and his bank. Glad this worked out as it's been a headache since the beginning.

Was sold on BST here, not on eBay. Should be a no brainer for PayPal but I've heard horror stories so wanted to act quickly. Could just be a shared PayPal with the wife or something and she didn't know. Going to enjoy my Saturday with my kids, so I'll check in and update later if he replies. He's been invited to this thread.

If this was a mistake, so be it. But if this was a scam attempt, it's the millennial of scams (i.e. not thought out, lazy, incompetent, etc).

Send all your proof to Paypal (ie feedback, his ad, etc.) and tell them to close this BS case! It really should be that simple!

I've seen that guy active on the boards (almost 1750 posts), he's got 59 feedback, and been a member here since 2008. This is very bizarre, doesn't exactly seem like the usual suspect to pull this kind of crap. I'd love to hear his side of this story.

 

And, if he really is just straight up trying to scam, re-using the OP's photos from his original ad is just salt in the wound.

Submitted both sale links as well as this thread link to PayPal. Seems very odd, as he obviously bought and received. Signature was required for delivery. The PayPal email states that the buyer claims the item was purchased without their permission. Only thing I can think of is it's his wife seeing the charge and not knowing what it is, or an elementary scam. I'll keep updated as I find anything else out. He's active on the site and still hasn't responded. I sold to him because I was comfortable through our conversations and he had lots of good feedback.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if the wife found the charge on their account and started a claim (or the wife asked the buyer what the charge was and he claimed it wasn't him) Maybe this is wishful thinking? I hate to think a long time wrx member could do this.

 

 

It just seems odd that a guy with so much time spent on here and all that feedback would try such an obvious scam. Maybe he figured he could sell it fast enough and get the funds back in the account? If you really wanted to scam, ebay would be easier Im guessing.

Why not have the other member call eBay to reverse the non-authorization. This shouldn't be your issue to deal with, the other member is 110% at fault. He should be assisting you in your communication with PayPal.

Had a similar thing happen this summer. Sold a putter in May, buyer replied that he was very happy, then early July I got a complaint filed, money frozen immediately. Contacted said member who claimed they didn't do it and would help but didn't. Turns out they or someone else filed through their credit card company that it was unauthorized. I called PayPal, provided tracking and screen shots of communique that he received it, and they released the funds. They eventually officially ruled in my favor but the case is still listed in my paypal account. But basically you'll be fine, it's just a pain in the Word not allowed.

He has informed me that he has cleared up everything with his bank and the bank has sent that info to PayPal. Just waiting on PayPal at the moment.

Not sure it needs a lock, but perhaps could be a lesson to all sellers to hold onto your emails and communication when selling items. I know in my case having proof of shipment and communication with the buyer went a very long way in closing my case. Had I simply deleted those emails I might have been SOL.

Call them, send them the tracking showing delivery and the feedback received. Ask them what else you might need to provide to prove your situation. Just be cool, level headed and polite and it usually goes a long way with them.
