I have actually been talking with the kid back and forth most of the day via PM.

Hopefully he comes out of this grasping the severity of his actions.

I highly doubt it since he thinks the only "wrong" he did here was not returning the clubs immediately.

Completely sidestepping the notion that he didnt hold up his end of the deal, essentially stole the clubs, and then tried to trade away stolen property. Selling stolen property is an additional charge on top of stealing them in the first place.

So what does "making it right" constitute in this case?

Did the "kid" actually trade and ship the Callaway irons? Because in his post it just says that he said that he had something to trade, and not whether he actually shipped them out to the third party.

I won't comment on what I would do in the situation. I just hope everything turns out okay for everyone. Hopefully the "kid" learns that deception and theft lead only to pain and negative consequences and decides never to do anything like this again.

Not a witch hunt at all, this guy is a thieving twit, the fact he is a minor does not excuse his action nor does publicly apologizing. When I was 15-16 I knew very clearly what was right and what was wrong and I find it hard to believe someone who plays high school golf is somehow oblivious to such straight forward ideas

As someone else said, he's not really sorry, he's only sorry he got caught. He didn't even apologize for his original scam (not sending the Miuras)

I meant The Witch Hunt on me I didn't even scam anybody.

There were quite a few in this thread that spent a lot of time telling the original poster what they need to do and talking about how much they hate scamming then I put a little pressure on the kid whether it helps or not and all the sudden I get crucified.

I just emailed the golf coach, lets see if he is of any help

Don't know if this is what prompted action but thanks! Of course, this is my opinion and not that of the company which I volunteer for. Kudos!

Decided it was better than being the 15th person to sit back and tell the OP what to do.

For the people asking questions: my coach hasn't reached out to me yet, I'm sure he will. I agreed to trade the Miura's for the callaway. I took a video just trying to be nice and say thanks for doing the trade, I really like them but I need 130x shafts opposed to reg. I then tested the callaway extensively versus the miura and found the miura to be a little more forgiving and better feeling for me personally. I asked Jon to allow me to keep the Miura's and send back the callaway and he said sure. I should have sent back the callaway immediately but I was asked if I had anything to trade by something and said yes I have some callaway protos when they were not mine, they were jons. I have called and texted Jon and I am making the situation right. It's 100% my fault and I should have sent back the irons immediately.

Complete BS. You SHOULD have sent your Miuras immediately, that was the original deal. This is not trade, try, and never return if you don't like them . What kind of crap deal do you really think you were trying to pull? Have your parents not informed you how the real world works yet?

Considering you took his irons and used them extensively, you should be returning them with additional compensation for the wear and tear you imparted on them.

I agree 100% with this. The kid has done the OP wrong in way more ways than one.

IF the OP gets his clubs back who knows what kind of shape they're going to be in, or what's been done to them. And that's to say nothing of the time and effort lost by the OP over what should've been a very simple transaction.

OP is a still a long way off from being "made right" IMO.

The kid is sorry he got caught and outed. He is sorry he didn't get away with it. Odds are this isn't this kid's first rodeo pulling this sort of crap. He just got busted doing it this time.

But, and this is huge.

The kid basically admitted on a public forum that he committed a felony, no?

Mail fraud. The value of the clubs. The intent.

Depending on his age this could go very poorly for him. And I am with Sean 1000% - this kid needs to be held accountable. Fully.

Some advice for little Q here....

Better make it right kid. A felony on your record could really mess things up in the future. I really hope you've let mommy and daddy know what you're up to - odds are they would be the ones paying the legal fees and such if you mess up the "making it right" part. You messed up big time kid. Saying I am sorry is something but not nearly enough. You stay on this track and you will end up behind bars. And that's a fact. What you did was criminal. If you aren't afraid at this point you sure should be because you even openly admitted to the crime on here and a screenshot of it serves to preserve the evidence. Learn from it. Make it right. Let this little act of crime and stupidity be a great life lesson and don't do anything stupid like this again. That's the father in me coming out - and having seen a LOT of kids your age getting hooked up for doing/saying/being stupid - well let's just say I have seen a lot of lives messed up over the years and leave it at that.

I really hope this kid has brought his mom and dad into this loop.

For those already willing to sit around the campfire with the kid, forgive and forget and just let bygones be bygones, words are cheap. The clubs he tried to steal aren't. Even if he does make the OP whole again this kid's parents deserve to know that he's into theft online. How can they, as his parents, address a situation that they don't even know about?

I know when our daughter got into trouble, as they always do, I appreciated knowing so that I could take dad action.

Hate to say it, and maybe it works out in this case...

I get that people get scammed...it happens, unfortunately

But what ALWAYS baffles me is how someone AFTER getting scammed, and THEN somehow miraculously outing the person that scammed them, THEN generally TRUSTS the person that scammed them to make things right.

Why not just get LEO's involved at that point as well?

I personally didn’t see the reasoning in contacting the coach. He’s just the coach, not a parent. But that’s really irrelevant now. And it actually may have helped.

What I’m wondering is how deep this could get. This doesn’t sound like a one time deal. Blocking the OP’s number, then moving (or trying to) clubs he knew weren’t his. I have to wonder if this is the first time? He built in a time delay with the switching of shafts. No money involved, so no PayPal. A lot of things working in his favor to get away with it.

I don't have any problems with the poster that did it personally, but why is everyone treating the act like it changed the tide of this ordeal? Not that emailing the coach may not have scared the kid, but it wasn't the reason he showed up here (according to him- take that for what it's worth).

I'd guess that this thread existing did more to get the kid out of hiding than an email to a coach, at this point. When the coach reads the email tonight, tomorrow, whenever, maybe this will change.

I’d have to imagine when the coach finds out about the theft the kid will no longer be on the school team anymore. Don’t you need to have good grades and be an upstanding citizen to be on school teams?

I`m not saying emailing the coach was right or wrong, but maybe some kids may respect their coaches more so than their parents. Sometimes coaches and teachers can be more like friends to some kids.Maybe homelife isn`t so great and the kid relies on a coach or a teacher for support and advice. Maybe PixlPutterman had the same thought?

Clearly the kid said he didn`t hear from the coach as of the time he came forward, so my above blabbering was not true here.

Pretty sure a felony would sort of put a damper on being a team member.

Unless, and this is purely for entertainment purposes and for the sake of lightening things up a little - what if the coach is actually not only aware but has all of the team members doing it? His own used club chop shop as it were.

Now THAT is a GolfWrx Law and Order episode!

What is really scary is that this exact thought went through my mind the instant I saw that someone stuck their nose into the situation and contacted the coach.

I guess it's a way to keep the golf team well equipped in these times of shrinking school athletic budgets
