Srixon's new Z785 driver

I hit mine several times at the range this past weekend. I was playing in a tournament, so I didn't put it in play on the course, but hit it head to head with my current LTD Pro. I also borrowed the demo Tensei Pro Orange 70X that Edwin Watts was given by Srixon (but they didn't give them any demo heads.... ) I also went into Watts yesterday and hit both shafts on the simulator. I had it set at one notch lower loft than standard.

Bottom line, the Tensei pro blue really spins for me, much more than I expected. The Pro Orange actually spun a bit more than I expected, I thought it would be a bit more stout. On the range, the blue goes very high and wants to turn over. The orange is flatter and less spinny and tended to be able to hit both ways but still had a left bias if I had to say anything. I also hit some with the Atmos Black on the simulator, didn't care for the feel as much, numbers not that far from the orange.

Now I am coming from the Cobra LTD Pro, which I have been playing on the fade setting at 9.5, also used to play the Bio Cell Pro set up that way, sometimes down at 8.5/fade. The hook aspect of how I was hitting them could be what I am used to. After a fair amount of time one day with the 785 I was starting to hit more of a straight ball flight. And when I picked up my Cobra I started hitting a pretty good fade, something I haven't been doing with it.

I do love the feel and sound, but on the simulator, my ball speed/ carry as well as spin was not as good as I hoped. Still have to get it out on the course, maybe the stock HZRDUS black actually could be what I am looking for, didn't hit any with it though.

I also want to comment on the 3 wood, as my F85 came in yesterday and I was also hitting it on the simulator. I had them put a HZRDUS Yellow 75 6.0 in it, I ordered the 15 degree model. I was killing that thing with a baby draw, and it felt great off the club face. I love the look, nice square set up.

I think this club may also be a real sleeper. At $250 with the handcrafted HZRDUS yellow and black shafts as no upcharge options, I would recommend taking a look at it if you are in the market for a 3 wood. The stock red HZRDUS doesn't say it is HC, not sure what they are up too with that though.

I had doubts about the HZRDUS Black until I hit it. I don’t hit any spinners unless I make bad contact. Nice flat flight and as long as anything I’ve hit.

I actually liked the black so much, I ordered an F85 with one. It comes tomorrow with HZRDUS HC Black 75. I agree on the Red not being HC, no brained to get Black or Yellow HC for same price.

Just got an update on my PO 70TX order. Srixon said:

It looks like we had some delays. We have your order scheduled to be completed

mid October.

Order date 8/29.

Damn that's a loooooong wait. Which head did you order?

I just ordered 9.5 PO 70 tx with my shop on 9-30 and got an estimated ship date of 10-10. Hoping my ship date is accurate and not months down the road.

1st range session in books with the 785 9.5 Tensei Pro Blue 60s.

Looks: Very nice, like the all black head/face. I dont care about the sole, I never see it. The 765 was a fine driver, but looked dramatically closed at address to my eye. The 785 is an improvement in that department. Still looks closed compared to my Cobra LTD pro, but its not dramatic.

Feel: This is subjective. I think the face feels firmer on contact compared to the Cobra. The Cobra, I felt like the ball would melt to the face then shoot away. With the Srixon, its more of a firm feel and I dont get that marshmellow feel. Its not bad, just different. I do not mind it.

Sound: Big improvement over the 765. The 785 is very reasonable sounding. I thought the 765 was garish loud and borderline obnoxious.

Dispersion: This thing is right there with my Cobra. The Cobra has been the best driver I have played. Very consistent, etc. The Srixon is right there with it. I have zero issues here.

Distance: Well, not sure what it is (head - shaft - something else?) but the Srixon absolutely destroyed the Cobra. The Srixon launches the ball higher, but nothing that would bring rain, and it must have been super low spin since it was just going forever. More I think about it - I really like the Tensei Pro Blue. Super stable and I feel I can swing it with some authority. Maybe thats it. Who knows. Could just be a honeymoon thingy.

I am hoping I can play a round soon with it. Kids soccer tournaments eat up my weekends until November. Might have to skip a day of work and see about playing. Overall, very good 1st impression for this stick. IMHO, its definitely an upgrade over the 765 series.

I actually checked with Edwin Watts to see if they would swap my Tensei Pro Blue for an Orange. The manager said he asked their Srixon rep and he will check, but he didn't think they would. He said they told him they way, way underestimated demand, especially for the Tensei Orange, could be months to get one now if you ask for one.

I did take it out again last night at the range, Blue seemed high/spinny, misses wanted to go left. With the orange still fairly high trajectory but clearly less spin and better dispersion. I do want to hit it with the stock HC Black still.

Also, I was again impressed with the F85 3 wood with the HC HZDRUS Yellow, mid hight rockets, no draw bias at all it seemed, great feel. Maybe I should try the Yellow in the driver.

I agree with the blue wanting to miss left (right for me as a lefty) but I don't feel that it's spinny. I didn't notice any ballooning at all. It may also be the head having a slightttttt draw bias to it, even if it sits pretty neutral. I had to work really and hold the face off a bunch to get anything more than the tiniest of fades.

I have a EF Blue HC 6.5 coming today with a 10.5* head. Going to spend a whole hour tomorrow testing the head and shaft combos on trackman.

The 785 is the straightest driver I've ever owned without a doubt. Absolutely blown away by the accuracy and that's without making any changes to the head. Stock 9.5° hazardous black 5.5, Good job Srixon.

Well I know for sure I'm going with the Evenflow Blue 65 HC... really great feeling shaft. Numbers are mixed so far between 9.5 or 10.5 heads. May toss some lead tape on the toe area to help keep the face open just a bit... and/or see if I can lower the lie angle. I was constantly over drawing everything today. Could be due to being indoors because I didn't have any issues last weekend or yesterday hitting outside.

Bummer. I ordered mine on 9/6 and checked today and they told me 10/2 delivery. Disappointing.

What shaft did you order?

Fujikura Atmos Tour 6 Black

Finally showed up yesterday. I played a quick 9 this morning. Z785 is a very good driver. Definitely higher launching than Ping G LS Tec driver I've played for last 2 seasons. I think I was consistently 5-10 yards farther too. I would consider shortening the length -.5", but overall still easy to hit straight, cut or draw. I know I missed 2 balls that flew plenty far and still hit the fairway. Initial impression is A+ on forgiveness. With time could see myself really loving this driver.

I took my 785 out to the range with my newly acquired TS2 for some head to head action. Both with HZRDUS shafts - the 785 with the stock black and the TS2 the stock Smoke but at 45” in length.

Went through my clubs working up to the TS2 and it was ugly. High and right. Nothing felt good.

Grabbed the 785 and first swing was smoked. Felt hot and like I smashed it. Little movement left or right just straight bombs. When I went back to the TS2 it was better the second round but still not as good as the 795. This driver is seriously good. Heading to Myrtle for a golf trip and the 785 is going with me.

Took out my 10.5* with EFB HC and I wasn't as pleased. Didn't hit one fairway with it, and everything was high and left (LH hitter). Very different than with the Pro Blue which went pretty straight, and usually a pull. Not sure if I just couldn't time things right or what... May go back to the 9.5*/PB combo this week to see if I get the same results or not. May also stick the PB in the 10.5* head.

Final thoughts:

I moved on from mine.

I hated the PO, felt soft and couldnt hit anything except a draw with it.

The srixon head felt great and launched nicely, definitely low spin. However i could not hit anything but heel strikes. I could not hit the high toe no matter what i tried. Also the head just wanted to go left on me.

I had the Z785 with my Pro White prototype ive played for last 24 months and i brought it into a local golf shop that has a GC Quad, hit it against a Ping G400LS with Tour65x and Titleist TS3 Evenflow white T1100 65x. Both combos blew it out of the water in ball speed. Ping was 3-4mph faster and Titleist another 3 faster than ping. Both the Ping and Titleist were going straight to baby fade on GCQuad where the srixon was showing its hook prowess like ive seen on course.

Now keep in mind i couldnt find anything but heel on the srixon so im sure that affected the ballspeed results.

Long story short, i bought the TS3 on the spot and installed my PW shaft at same length as always (44.5") and i hit the center and high toe every time. Played yesterday and loving the combo.

That’s funny I just had the complete opposite experience last night. Tested the ts3 vs z785 at the local shop outside on trackman. The z785 was sooo much better than the TS3 for me. Just goes to show how important it is to get out there and try for yourself. Everyone’s swing is different...

I think another thing is getting plenty of on course time with the club, and not just quad/trackman (especially trackman if you're inside). I was hitting all draws/hooks with both heads on Friday inside on trackman, but Saturday outdoors, I couldn't stop the thing from over fading.

Not sure if this was directed at me but i had 27 holes with the 785 and 5-6 outdoor range sessions. Everything left,QCquad was the last thing. Outdoors came first.
