Srixon's new Z785 driver

Anyone out there who's seen the FW in person agree that it looks a little closed? I was kinda bummed by the ones I saw but I wonder if there are some that may be a bit more square to open. I hit the hybrid and it felt great, I'd like to try the 3 wood as well but hoping for a more square to open look. Wonder if they would offer an option to request a handpicked open face.

I hit the 3 wood today. It didn’t look too closed to me, more neutral-ish. I wasn’t as impressed with it as the driver. Could’ve been the shaft.

I am looking at the 3 wood on the website and see that it comes with a HZRDUS Red, but it’s not handcrafted. You can get the black or yellow handcrafted for no up-charge. No option for a Red handcrafted though. Very strange.

If you order through an authorized retailer, the handcrafted red should be available no charge as well. There's a little confusion on the HC red for some reason, but I had my rep check with corporate, as it's listed as a no charge upgrade just like the HC yellow and black in the full catalog. It's what I'm having put in my staff 3 wood.

Is the Red the best fairway shaft out of the Hzrdus line? It seems like the other offerings besides hzrdus aren’t available in 70 gram weights or am I wrong? It almost seems on the site that you can get any of the driver shafts in the 3 wood, but you obviously would want a heavier shaft for the 3 wood.

I have the red in a F7 5w and love it. When I ordered the driver I thought about getting the red but couldnt find it for the 785 so went with the black.

Is the 2018-2019 catalog available yet? I haven't found it online. Also, do you know if there are any 80 gram options for the fairways?

It's available in that I have a hard copy. Been out for about a month now. I don't think I can publish any of it, being an authorized account/official hard goods dealer. Srixon is, in a good way, really doing this release right in my option. Limited/controlled green grass accounts to coincide with the launch. Going to restrict access to the product to just those accounts until early next year. Those that are going to have the product have it now to go along with the huge marketing push that's lined up for it. You should start seeing Srixon club commercials and Cleveland wedge commercials starting...well...now really. Really good looking and high performing equipment across the board. I like what they are doing to control the premium image of the products this time and really show how these are second to none on the market at this time.

My club is a Srixon club, the Srixon PGA tour rep is a member of our club so we’ve had the woods and hybrids for a couple of weeks now. We have a big demo day this Friday and Saturday. I am really looking forward to trying the driver, it sets up really well.

Really like the way the driver looks at address and the numbers were fine. But the sound is just not for me at all. Also, I think that a true fitting these days requires options to get dialed in. The guy who did my fitting is a top100 and he only had the HZRDUS Black in 6.5 flex. Not sure if that’s a Srixon thing or a fitter thing.

I finally received my z785 yesterday. I'm heading to Gamble Sands for it's maiden voyage.

1 odd thing and 1 frustrating thing. I was sent an extra weight in the box. I was stoked. Maybe for swing weight adjustment if I wanna go shorter? Nope. It's the same size weight as what is stock in the head. So now I have two 8g weights. Cool?

Now for the bummer. I was SO excited for the EF HC Blue. The tip prep is horrible. The shaft paint has been sanded past the ferrule on the adaptor. Honestly, it looks like it was training day in the custom shop. I spoke with CS. They said that in order to correct the mistake I have to send in the whole driver, club head and all. It's going to take 2-3 business days from when they receive it to get it turned around. So I'm going to be without my lovely, brand new club for around 2-3 weeks (includes shipping time) because of this. TBH I don't have 2-3 weeks until the end of the decent weather season up here in Seattle. To say that I'm bummed is an understatement.

I want to pull the trigger on this so bad but everything I've seen says the club is just "as good" as everything else now, where maybe 4-5 years ago they lagged behind all the major OEMs. Is this thing significantly more forgiving than something like XR16/M2, etc?

Well, you always have the 60 day no hassle return thing to fall back on. Im going to try it (have one on order). Miles of Golf here in Cincy told me it would be October before their demos arrived. So I will see if the club can beat my Ltd pro. Will be a tall order, love my Cobra driver.

Is it 60 days from when you get it or order it?

Edit: Which shaft there would be most similar to my speeder? Play the evenflow blue 75 in my rogue sz 3w and really like it so I'm kind of leaning that way. Also really want to try the Handcrafted Yellow and/or Pro Blue. Have the blue in my hybrid and also love that shaft...

Got my shipping notice from Srixon late last night and UPS should be delivering my 9.5 PO today. Excited to play a round with it tomorrow as I wasn't expecting it this soon with the backorder situation on the PO. Sorry to hear that blink's tip prep was botched, I think I'll send mine right back to Srixon if its not perfect.

OK, broke down and ordered one from Edwin Watts today, got the 60 days from Srixon and 90 days return policy with Watts.

They actually had a few in stock with the HZD Black HC. In their hitting bay they had some demo shafts, including the PO TX to hit, but no heads...... Wouldn't let me hit a new one. I'm pretty sure that the Pro Orange would not fit me well, I ordered one with the Tensi CK Pro Blue 60 in TX at 45 inches....I'm more of a mid-launch/mid to low spin guy, that's why I like the Red Tie.

Good thing I did it today, the manager at Watts said his Srixon Rep confirmed that today is the last day to get all of the exotic shafts at no upcharge.

They had all the new Srixon stuff too, I really liked the look of the 3 wood also, irons look great, if they can get some marketing traction, they might actually start to sell some product.

Also saw the new Cleveland wedges for the first time. They are going in the bag once my current wedges wear down their grooves.....

Demoed this today with the HC Hzrdus black, HC Evenflow Blue, and the Tensei CK Blue. Was close between the Hzrdus black and the Tensei CK blue. I was a little more consistent and it was a tad easier to load with the Tensei. That is what I went with with a playing length of 44.75". Now the waiting begins

Everyone:

I emailed CS to ask about how they swing weight their drivers. I told them I was curious because stock SW is D4, and I told them I play mine at D1. This is what I got:

Mr. Z1ggy-

Thank you for your order. We do not build our drivers to a specific swing weight.

Thank you,

Scott Kawaguchi

Business Integration Analyst

Srixon / Cleveland Golf / XXIO

So to all of you guys who ordered anything but the stock set up, I would strongly advise you get your clubs SW checked to make sure it's what you get along with best, if it matters to you. Apparently if you order a heavier or lighter shaft, or a trimmed length, they don't build the club back to standard specs.

Kind of shocked I guess? What if somebody is a senior and goes with the Helium 4 at -1''? They are going to get a C6 or something feeling club? meh.

I ordered mine shorter at 44.5 with the Orange Pro. Requested Srixon to put the heavier weight in the head, I'll see when I get it whether or not I need to add more weight.

They might or might not. Here is their response:

Z1ggy:

Scott,

I see. So if the "standard" listed on the spec sheet is D4, is it safe to assume that's at the standard length of 44.25'' with a ~65 gram shaft? I ordered my clubs -3/4'' short, so I would assume the builders will not be adding any additional weight to the head to bring it back to D4? I'm trying to avoid adding lead tape.

Scott:

Whatever the swing weight comes out at -3/4” short is what we will leave it at.

Thank you,

Scott Kawaguchi

Business Integration Analyst

So in my case I might get lucky and the -3/4'' might get me down to exactly D1 with the Pro Blue 60TX

I orders a S, may be why I received it sooner than the TX orders. I received it a few hours ago, no tip prep issues like blink had but there was a noticeable amount of grip tape residue below the grip. Cleaned up just fine but never had that on a custom order before. I ordered +1/4" and it measures out spot on so that's good.

Wanting to pull the trigger, but wish they had a couple more shaft options...not that the selection is bad by any means. But don’t care for the hzrdus line, pro orange in 70 gram TX might be a bit much for me (already have the 60tx and it’s about perfect, but can be demanding when I’m not fully committed). May like the evenflow blue or the Tensei Pro blue, but worried about spin creeping up with those two shafts.

I have a bunch of store credit at my local Edwin Watts, and have been thinking hard about ordering one with a pro orange 70X, but I also have the same questions. I've never hit a driver with a PO, so there's that, and can't demo the head. I've been playing the same shaft since 2014, the made for Cobra Red Tie in X, I have a feeling I would do better with the Tensi Pro Blue 60 in TX, I think they both weigh 68 grams and have a more similar profile. But I want to try the Pro Orange....
