Winter jacket suggestions

Recommended Posts

That stinks. I'm sorry to hear that. Given that it's now out of stock, my guess is that they had an inventory problem. If you're dead set on the dark blue, it would probably be a good idea to keep checking the site. They have added new inventory of different PING styles all week long. I've been able to order some things that weren't available earlier this week. If you're OK with the light blue version, they appear to have all sizes in stock right now.

Mine has been "Processing" for the past 3 days. I had a feeling it would get cancelled when I didn't get a shipping notice within a day or two. It's not the first time it's happened with TGW. For me it was not a big deal because I had already purchased this jacket from Golfbase, but I'm hoping others are able to get theirs.

I wore my Jacket today and I am glad to report the claims are correct. It was 44 degrees, completely overcast and 8-15mph winds. I only wore a FJ base layer and the Norse II and I was Shocked I never Even got cool. Truly a great jacket.

GOT IT and its fridgen awesome!!!!

the fit, style, warmth, and color is right on point! The quality is amazing, even the way the zipper is shaped makes it extra easy to zip. it gives a updated "fitted" bomber jacket look which I really like. def moving forward with PING gear while it last.

highly recommend this Jacket if available in your size.

I already know it. This will be my second one (one size smaller than the first one). The one that I have fits well when I'm wearing multiple layers underneath. But, so far, those additional layers haven't been necessary. For $40, getting a smaller one for 30 degree plus weather seems like a good idea. I'm just happy to know that I will be receiving the fully insulated version.

BTW - On both of my Norse II's, the zipper was very difficult to open when I first received the jacket. After using it a few times, the first one became much easier to open. It does still stick sometimes (due to the top & bottom opening zipper). But, not nearly like it did when I first got it. I didn't know if the sticky zipper was normal or not. But, after receiving my 2nd Norse II and having it stick just like the first one, I'm now assuming that this is probably normal.

I finally got my dark blue norse 2's in (ordered a large and xl) and i have to say they made a good jacket better. There is just a slight bit more room in the shoulders and the sleeves are about an inch longer in the norse 2 large vs the original which is exactly what i wanted. It also looks much better this go around too. It has a little more structure but still feels like it has all of the stretch.

My zippers stuck on both sizes too. The fit in the armpits/shoulders is much better this go around and the sleeves are way better

One "trick" that seems to work, that I found today while trying to break in the zipper, is to lower the zipper tab with your left hand, while grasping the right side of the zipper just below sternum level with your right hand and pull up a little bit as you lower the zipper tab to the bottom. When I do this, the bottom of the zipper releases instantly every time.

Lowering the zipper with my left hand is very unnatural feeling and requires that I think about doing it that way because I'm so used to all of my zippers tabs being on the right hand side of the zipper. But, once I lower the zipper tab with my right hand and it sticks, I remember to switch hands.

I was worried the lighter blue in small may not ship, as there was only 1 in stock, but got the notice last night, be here Tuesday. Twice I have had to add stinger tees to my order to get freebies shipping, have 1000 now...lol

Chris975D provided a lot of first hand info about fit throughout this thread. I ordered the dark blue Norse II in L and XL from TGW. I thought the XL was going to be what I needed based on what I read here and Ping’s size charts. I wear size L in almost all of the major apparel brands. I’m definitely between sizes in Ping outwear. The large is perfect through the shoulders, chest and sleeves and a bit snug in the midsection but not uncomfortably so. The XL is a bit looser fit overall but the sleeves are too long for me. I will probably keep the L.

I'm in the exact same situation, but with XL & XXL. I've been using the XXL and and the longer sleeves haven't caused me any issues while playing. Being on Long Island, I can play in cold weather and very cold weather. Given the price of these jackets, I'm keeping both. I will wear the XL in cold weather when I don't need any base layers underneath. But, I will wear the XXL when a few extra layers are necessary.

Keeping the (new) XL (as well as some of the other XL stuff that I ordered, will prevent me from having an excuse for not losing 15 pounds or so. I'd hate to lose weight and have everything be too big on me.

And that’s probably part of the reason they’re getting out of apparel. It’s a tough enough business for those that specialize (I’m learning as I go). Ping, imho, put forth a better effort than most.

It seems like they've done a great job of designing apparel. But a lousy job of marketing it in the US. Other than hats, I don't think that I've ever seen a piece of PING branded clothing in a physical shop in the US. With the popularity of their clubs, you;d think that they would piggyback onto that and try to sell their apparel at some of the larger US retailers.
