New Wilson CorTex driver

I think the Mark Crossfield review would be much more interesting.

Mark only had one point of comparison, 257-262 yds.

People seem to be buying this driver with comments like "it's just as good as everything else" I'm confused. Is the benchmark for WS to be just as good? They don't have the brand name recognition to get away with being just as good. I mean Cally, TM, and Ping dominate 90% of the woods market. So maybe WS takes a tiny piece away from Titleist? Tour Edge? Cobra? Either way until they get real tour pro's that are on tv and blow everything out of the water it will be a failure like the Triton.

That’s the argument most have made when it comes to the pricing. Just as good as 1-2 year old drivers at $100+ more than the current drivers doesn’t make sense.

From Wilson’s perspective they are using it to say look we can hold our own now. That may go into changing peoples perceptions going forward but imo not enough to sell this release.

I’m curious to see numbers of sales from day1-5 of the release compared to now with the buzz of the finale gone and a couple weeks passed release

If Rick positively reviewed it, no one would believe him because they'd say he's biased. He can't win by reviewing it positively or negatively.

He doesn't need to "win"...Wilson does. Shiels isn't selling products...Wilson is.

People are going to tune-in and watch his reviews regardless. Have you stopped watching his reviews because your current equipment doesn't work vs. people tune-in looking for the next best thing?

Do you or I agree with every review he does...NO...but, might he persuade you try something you otherwise would not have thought about..YES!

For me, his review of the Srixon Z785 driver did exactly that. I never would have given a look at their driver or even thought about testing it, but his review intrigued me enough along with Srixon's 60-Day Gaurantee to give it a try. I would agree...it is a sneaky good driver...may not be enough to overtake my current driver, but may be good enough that I want to keep it and have it as a backup.

Yes, he DOES need to "win". Everybody does.

Nobody needs to agree with any of his reviews so long as they perceive him to be "objective", i.e. NON-aligned with the manufacturer.

If he reviews this driver positively and it flops he will be accused of shilling and his videos become irrelevant. FAIL for Rick.

If he reviews it negatively he gets no more paid gigs from ANY manufacturer. Who's going to pay someone to "trash" their product(s) ? FAIL for Rick.

Looks like your theory was wrong ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Certainly not the first time.

Guess time will tell whether it makes any difference or not (for him). :dntknw:

Exactly. If they want to say "hey we exist and can compete" then just say that and don't price your no name driver that was made by a guy off the street at the premium price point. It's not a good marketing strategy and will be slightly better than Triton but still far very short.

Don't know if it's been mentioned already but from our Rep... 9* is 450cc, 10.5 is 455c. , and 12* is 460cc. I told the guy running the shop other day when I bought mine that the 9* looked slightly smaller. It's been confirmed.

That seems extremely odd. i am not saying you are wrong but that seem so strange.

Yeah that’s real weird. I could see if they did like ping or other companies and offer didn’t model in different size but to do it by loft makes zero sense.

I disagree. I think for the most part higher handicap players need more loft and prefer a 460CC head for the added confidence. I can definitely see the theory behind it

Very noticeable to me when I sat the 9abd 10.5* heads side by side. Shoo owner confirmed thru rep. Weird, different, but they are.

The 10.5 I got is a tad elongated compared to the 9. Not highly noticeable but after looking st them a few minutes I could see it, that’s when I mentioned in the shop. Really liking the driver do far . I’m gonna see if the shafts are interchangeable with the C300.

I disagree that high hdcps need more loft and vice versa. There’s a lot of factors that go into a persons handicap as well as how people deliver the club. I know several low caps that player higher lofts because their swing produces low launching shots. I play with a guy that fluctuates between a 9 and 12 depending on how much time he has to play and practice and because if his swing speed and swing he plays a 12*

First review out

After watching that video I searched his Rogue review and the Cortex actually gave him 1 mph more ballspeed on average. The slightly higher spin with the Cortex gave him an average carry that was 3 yards shorter, though. From a fitting standpoint, the extra ballspeed alone gives me the impression that the Cortex can hang with 'em

If you own a rogue or any current release and walk into a store and get fit for the cortex and the results are basically the same as your current driver do you upgrade?

If you own something that’s 2-3 years old and the cortex comes out the same as the current releases but costs $100+ or more do you spend the extra money for the same performance

I've a feeling that even if The Cortex bested all comers by a sensible amount, the 'hatred' for WS would over ride the results.

" It's a copy of the M1"

"Too expensive for just a few yards"

Etc etc.

I'm quite disappointed at the negative objectivity of so many.

I think you assume too much. Case in point Adams XTD 9015D. Thing was a beast from a brand known for box sets and hybrids. There is a thread here that is hundreds of pages long singing the praises of that club. I think that lead to a loyal following of GolfWRXers for the brand. There were many here that were sad to see them sell to TM to be killed off slowly.

I think the difference is they priced it realistically and backed it up with performance. People here are willing to give almost anything a chance. Assuming there is a reason to. Pricing seems to be the only knock. If performance and price being equal, I imagine people are going to go with the club that has multiple shaft options and brand recognition.

I don't think anyone is hating on Wilson. In fact, there are a lot of folks giving them recognition for their irons. A lot of love I'm the new Wilson blade thread. There is a lot of questioning on their price point for their driver. But, I wouldn't call it hate.

If Wilson Golf had a good PR staff no YouTube reviewer would be showing a review with the wrong shaft. All of them have said that the driver is ok but the shaft is not what they play. I expect Rick Shields at least playing his classic Rogue
