G410 irons...took the leap

Cushion's suck. 1/4" ball bearings (3) in a silicone tube. The balls can come loose and the silicone tube causes the shaft to rust. I learned this after purchasing a used set of clubs with Cushion's that were falling apart. No thanks.

I bit the bullet and sold my G's, and purchased the G410's. Played 18 holes on Friday, and my buddy couldn't belive how many greens I hit. Ball flight was much higher than my G series, and all shots were a full club length longer. Got tired of putting from the back of the greens on the front 9, so I clubbed down on back 9. Shot a decent round, and didn't have to buy the beer afterward which is rare. Really like the flight and feel of these with the AWT 2.0 Reg steel shafts (which is what I hit on Demo Days). Just turned 63 and retired, so I plan to play at least 5 rounds a week this summer, and hopefully get back into the low 80's.

I always played the AWT's but for me they didn't produce as good of results as the Dynamic Golds or the KBS Tour's. I can't stress enough to get fitted somewhere you can see your numbers, otherwise it's just like peeing into the wind.

Unfortunately, I may have to go without a fitting this time. When I went last time, I was fitted for Steelfiber i95 R. I like 'em but I'm not nearly good enough to warrant paying for them again. FWIW, the backup was KBS Tour 90 S.

This may be a blind purchase via BST (hopefully) or eBay.

A bit of a shaft comparison from the WRX section

Yes it is. 10 grams lighter than the PW shaft.

Steelfiber's are very stiff tipped. Pings stock graphite shafts perform very well but are different than steelfibers. KBS Tours work very well for this old guy.

Steelfiber user here ... The Dynamic Gold 105 R300 felt similar.

Sorry I had a senior moment and thought you preferred graphite because of your wrist problems .There's no way that someone can explain what feels like a steelfiber because all shafts feel different to each individual .Probably the best thing to do it's just start checking specs of All steel shafts and see which one matches up the best with the steel fibers.

I can't say for certain how a certain shaft will perform for you, but I can say that the Alta graphite shafts play plenty stiff, doesn't launch too high, and for me flew extremely straight with little curvature. I've got an 84-87 mph 7 iron speed and the stiff holds up very well. I've played steelfiber before and the altas are better in my opinion.

No one can give you a correct answer to performance either. At least not one that is accurate. I'm not trying to be a smart a**. The only person that can give you the answer to your question is you. I'm trying to help you make a good decision and the only way you can do that is to take your irons and try the 410's on a trackman or flightscope or even just hit them side by side off grass. Anything anyone here tells you is strictly a guess.

My 7 iron is exactly in that range. I will give the Alta stiff a demo try. I figured it would be too light. Thanks for the input.

You thought right. Took some time to get used to the weight. Played fine in stock form, but did end up adding 10" of lead tape below the grip.

I guess I wasn’t clear. Only steel with NO UPCHARGE due to the fact I assumed the ALTA was too light and not near the steelfiber quality. Initially I said steelfiber too much upgrade charge when I have a set of G30 with SF. Can switch out. Never even considered what I thought was a too light and lower quality graphite shaft like the ALTA. Want to buy used. About a zero chance I find specs with Alta anyway.

One other thing to consider, if you think there's a high probability that you will end up pulling the shafts and putting the SFs in, you may want to buy a set with a similar weighted shaft (if you care about swing weight)? Otherwise, I think the clubhead weight may not match up with a different weight shaft. I think there is also some impact on how the two shafts have their weight distributed but I don't know how that would change things.

Thanks. It used to be so much easier to buy used clubs. Now there are so many variables to consider for each persons specs. Keeps people getting fitted for there own swing and having to buy new. Sometimes I think this is all a very good marketing ploy by the OEM’s because most golfers are the biggest suckers (me included) in the world.
