I respect Bryson for sticking to his guns and doing things his own way, but he's doing things his own way in a somewhat perceived petulant fashion. He's only a little warmer to root for than Patrick Reed. Perhaps as he grows up he'll mellow a bit and bring out more of his charm that sometimes shines through.

I think am missing your point, as grm24 pointed out he was on the clock for the entire back nine. Once put on the clock he played the next 4 holes under par and then the final 4 holes over par. Hard to correlate his bad play with being put on the clock.

It would certainly change a bit. To me, it wouldn't be a decline if we were never treated to a shot of Tiger, hands on hips, waiting while JB took forever to play from a bunker. But you're right, I think better enforcement would quicken the rate at which players leave the tour.

As a fan just watching on TV, I don't really care how slow a player is, as long as the production crew is good enough to only show the players who are truly about to hit their shots. Don't force us to watch Bryson's slow routine. Granted, not all production crews are smart enough to figure this out.

That said, if I was a competitor out there, I would absolutely be in favor of strict time limit enforcement. At that point, these slow guys are affecting my livelihood.

Bryson played that entire tournament under the ET new pace of play rules and was in a position tied for the lead on the back 9 in the final round. I find it hard to buy the logic that that new rule set alone caused him to lose the tournament. It could be though, that in a tight situation down the stretch his natural tendency would be to slow down and, mindful of the new rules after having received a bad time, allowed that to distract his thought and decision making processes. And that's something he'll need to work out on his own.

You can't blame his being on the clock bogeying his last 4 holes when he played his first 4 holes under par after he got his bad time. You would have a better argument here had they told BDC after the 14th hole that he got his bad time and then bogeyed out.

Played with someone in league today who takes a lot of waggle and partial swings. On one shot he did it 11 times. I had to stop watching him as it gets me all riled up. I can't imagine playing with Bryson or JB Holmes.

Of course you are. Being put on the clock doesn’t mean every shot you hit is going to be worse than it would have been had that player not been on the clock, but I can certainly see it hurting the players who are slower far more than not.

Old Tom, I absolutely get what you are saying, making black/white in a slightly grey world is going to cause some angst.

BAD got his time just as the wind got up and sand was swirling about, what if it had chucked it down, does he get time to put his rain gear on or does he have to hit it? I watched the whole round (time works in Aust.), I didn't think DeChambeau's group was behind at any point, so has he got a time after waiting for the green to clear and then taking too much time? Clock him for a violation and then if the group gets behind, he gets the finger of blame.

All that said, I'm happy for any of the tours to be heavy handed and start dishing out a few monetary penalties for the snails with the money going to charity, you get a second one its shots, third, you get time off. If the players don't like it, throw it back to them to come up with something better. Hopefully Day, Spieth and Furyk are no longer on the players advisory council

I'm not even sure what point you're trying to make. If you think the slow play warning caused him to bogey the last 4 holes of the final round run with it. However what caused BDC to bogey three out of five holes on this front 9 of the final round w/o a slow play warning? I'm guessing he just played poorly like he did the last 4 holes.

The original post, and the title of the thread, was in June of 2019. At that time, he WAS unhappy about being on the clock. He pushed back, saying that he didn't agree with the rule, that he walked fast so should get more time, etc. He's calmed down a bit on his push-back, and according to Eddie Pepperell, has improved his pace of play.

He can improve his pace of play all he wants, but in the European Tour’s eyes it wasn’t enough and he still got put on the clock. I do believe he’s improving his pace.

You want to improve Pace of Play on all tours, get player sponsors to support pace of play over their slow player. Also, get TV producers to stipulate to players they won't be on camera if their are out of position, period. It won't take long before slow players, more importantly, their hat, shirt and bag sponsors feel the repercussions.

Hell. They put Graeme Mccdowel on the clock this morning just after he gave an on course interview. Hitting a 215 yard shot into the wind. He said he forgot to call a “ timeout “ and did so after the fact , and got nowhere. I guess moral of the story is don’t give on course interviews . Lol. Pretty funny that it’s catching “fast “ players . At least he tried to be positive about it But you could see he was fuming behind the positive words
