Bryson not happy about being put on the clock...

These guys don’t come to me every day and tell me how long I should spend doing my job, but my point is that I just don’t really care how slow/fast they are. I enjoy the player/caddie interactions if I’m honest.

I don’t particularly care to listen to Bryson because I simply believe he’s not as much of a genius as he wants us all to think he is - the Feherty show was enough proof for me; however, it’s up to him to do whatever he wants within the constraints of the rules and the time he has between shots. Cartwheels, smoke a cigarette, whatever floats his boat, but it’s on him to do it in the allotted amount of time.

Dont understand slow players at all! You've only hit that same shot a million times, you dont even need to consult a caddy to decide but if that makes you feel better go ahead. Standing there with your arms folded having a full on discussion before even pulling a club is hysterical. You know what club you're playin right away...

But Im biased so I wont voice my opinion...

Can't figure how to like my own posts

If they were the one's essentially paying your salary, they might.

I'm not qualified to opine :) , but I was watching a tournament with my buddy one day who is (an AE with a PHD in Physics) and had never seen BAD's schtick before. His reaction? "What the f*** is this dips*** talking about? Nothing he just said makes any sense."

When he first got on tour, I remember him saying in an interview that he calculated his yardages using a numerical summation. That's when I was sure he was full of crap.

deShampoo is a tool plain and simple. When he explained how his lower back hurt by naming the muscles - he named the wrong ones....also when he said mentioned the ball's 'terminal velocity' on the green when it hit the flag from 200 odd out, he's flat wrong. that not terminal velocity because the green is friction, it's physics 101 what a tool

I taught an advanced engineering class at smu a long time ago...so probably not relevant now, but every time I hear Bryson referred to as a rocket scientist I think about my students all flipping out over my first test average in the high 70s. Avg class gpa before running into me must have been 3.6 or 3.7. They all had really nice cars though.

Bryson would be much more popular if he simply wore a regular hat. With a bent bill.

> He can do almost all of his phony baloney smart boy stuff while waiting on others. But that means the camera won’t pick him up talking about air density, angle of descent, daylight savings time or if he can astrally project his ball onto the green or not. His science schtick is played out, he doesn’t know what any of his terms mean and this college dropout isn’t applying anything but wind direction and yardage like everyone else. But he has to wait to go through the process until the camera is on him so his 40 seconds isn’t enough since he stands there smelling his own farts the rest of the time.

I literally just spit out a bit of my coffee.

> _Begs the question of what him and his caddy are doing while "waiting" on others to play._ What takes 40 seconds to figure out God only knows. Still, at the women's event at the weekend Catriona Matthew tweeted that it was over 3 hours for 9 holes. Ridiculous.

Good question.

In the quote BAD specifically says: "...when you’ve got someone that’s behind you, let’s say, and they’re slower..."

Depending on where the other players are BAD & caddy may be precluded from doing much of anything until after the other player has hit his shot.

It would be so easy to speed things up both on the PGA tour and for our informal rounds and tournaments.

Allow the use of GPS/Rangefinders (even allow wind/elevation etc.). Play ready golf. Enforce the 40 second rule. Informal round double/triple max (the max your handicap allows).

I loath slow play. I never play the course closest to my home because it is famous for slow play and not allowing faster players through. I will not play with slow players a second time. I can understand a 4-5 hour round during a tournament but regular play come on.

The course I frequent most I play 9 holes riding in 45-60 minutes and 18 in 1.5-2.5 hours!

A few of the PGA players are really difficult to watch and would be somebody I could not play with on a regular basis, Bradely, Spieth, Furyk and of course Dechambeau.

If Bryson has really sped up his play, I applaud him. At least he’s trying.https://www.golfchannel.com/news/bryson-dechambeau-improved-pace-play-ive-made-mistakes-improving?utm-tags=golf1305000

I'd like to see the raw data on this as I feel the ET are going way over the top on the slow play issue and over correcting with ridiculously unworkable hard and fast rules on times. The have become hyper focussed on this issue and are zealots.

The way the ET are celebrating the stupid round by Soderberg is embarrassing.

Wont happen, case in point was JB Holmes yesterday, only seen him a few times and that was bad enough, Tiger was literally stood holding his putter for about 5 mins while he messed about with a bunker shot and then a chip

I did not see the tournament, only read about Bryson "being put on the clock". Was listening to PGA Tour Radio yesterday afternoon and the discussion came up. One of the hosts made the comment that after Bryson was told he was "on the clock" the shot came up where the discussion about 10:30 came up when it was his turn top hit. On that shot, he still took 50+ seconds to hit the shot. The discussion went further that if they put him on the clock, why wasn't he penalized for taking more than 40seconds to execute the shot...if being "on the clock" actually means anything.

The one problem of putting someone on the clock is that you can get them to rush and they play worse golf. I don’t want slow play, but if Bryson went +4 the last four holes due to feeling rushed, the tournament suffered because they might have had a more exciting finish had he not been put on the clock. The PGA Tour knows this which is why they rarely enforce this rule on the last few groups.

I just can't agree with this viewpoint, I think its important to look at the other side of the same coin. Players in the groups behind a slow player are impacted by that player's pace. THEY may play worse because they're forced to play slower. That slow guy has just as great a likelihood of eliminating a "more exciting finish" because he's caused the following groups to play worse. Yes, putting a player on the clock can impact that player. NOT putting him on the clock can impact a lot of players.

Personally, I'd love to see existing rules enforced more consistently, and would really like to see them tightened up a bit. If a few players find that they can't play at a reasonable pace and play well at the same time, they'll be replaced by players who CAN do both. We might miss Bryson, or JB, or anyone else for a few months, maybe a whole year, but eventually they'll just fade from memory just like Anthony Kim has (mostly).
