So my LAB experience hasn't been what I was hoping for so far.

I purchased a secondhand B.2 (it was all I could find as these putters are rare where I live in Australia) awhile back and really liked it, but wanted a mallet so I ordered a Mezz.1 with an Accra shaft through the online fitting process (spent an absolute bomb on shipping).

The rationale for the head/shaft combo was that here in Aus I play on very fast greens (11-14 stimp) and I would want the smaller head and a better shaft to improve the feel and get the really precise distance control that's needed for our conditions.

The first issue was that I was actually sent a Mezz.1 Max. I pointed this out to LAB customer service and sort of got a shoulder shrug response.

The second issue is that the combination of bigger head and 'soft' feeling shaft has taken a lot of the feel out of the putter. Hitting the start line and banging the ball into the cup inside 10 feet is no problem (as readers of this thread would know). But this was never much of a problem in my game, and the reduction in feel and distance control has resulted in worse putting performance overall.

Would those with experience of different LAB putters on fast greens have any suggestions about a better combo? Would the smaller Mezz and a steel shaft bring back some of the feel and distance control? If I got along with the B.2, is a LINK the way to go?

There are no fitters or stores that carry any amount of LAB stock anywhere near me, so rolling a few in a store or fitting studio isn't really an option.  The putters are very expensive (the Aussie dollar is weak these days), resale values here are poor, and shipping is very expensive - so just ordering, testing, and flipping putters is a very costly (i.e. not feasible) exercise.

I know I sound like a broken record. BUT, the DF 2.1 combined with the Armlock method is just SO LIKE CHEATING.

Most say it takes about a month to get used to the Armlock method. Well this is right at 4 weeks for me. And this last Thursday Saturday and today have been my best putting days. I was a really good putter before the Armlock/DF 2.1. But now I have even twice the confidence on the greens!!!!

Finally got to try the link. Sounds fantastic but for some reason I would get the odd ball that would shoot hard right off the face. Guess it’s cause my specs are slightly different, possibly ball position, used to a press grip, or most likely because I’m just a poor putter. It did few automatic on short putts which I struggle with my 2.1 which feels heavy and giagantic on those 3 footers.  It won’t be replacing the 2.1 at this time.

First of all I am stunned at the Customer Service response. I have had a number of chances to interact with LAB customer service and they have been nothing short of amazing. Perhaps there was a miscommunication somewhere? It is hard for me to imagine ever getting a "shoulder shrug response" from them.

Regarding your distance control - I think what you are describing is more a function of using a lie angle balanced putter than the shaft or head size. There is definitely a learning curve with longer putts. So many of us accelerate through the ball and have dialed in distance control. Also, "torque registers as weight" in your brain, so with the LAB putter it can sometimes seem to disappear in your hands, especially on long putts. It might really help to check out the video here:

To answer length question, Short answer THE SAME Length. I think it is a good idea to take advantage of LAB doing fitting over email and send in a video as see what LAB suggests. I was fitted for my bettinardi at the factory and was at 33.5. The fitter there had a good point at time of build that sometime i may want to chock down a little but as a round goes on he sees peoples backs getting tired and I may want to have the flexibility to go up a little so we went with 34. The betty was my gamer for 5 years and after getting use to it I am glad that I went 34. Fast forward to LAB golf,. I tired a stock 34 and the length felt good at the same as my other putter. I also sent a video for fitting and they recommended a 34" even though I was going custom and could have anything as I wanted accra shaft and red head.

Bit the bullet and ordered a Mezz Max broomstick today.

44 inch , 79.5 lie, black with black Accra Shaft and white split grip.

First long putter for me, ready to get it dialed in.

Great purchase! People

get sick of me on here raving about my Broomstick. Best golf purchase I ever made. Post questions if you have any after you get it.

Has anyone tried the arm lock or broom stick with both the 2.1 or the Mezz? Wanting to go broomstick or armlock. Currently using a standard DF 2.1.

I have owned a 2.1 Broomstick for about 8 months. Game changing!!! Tried a Mezz Max Broom at 2nd Swing and have to say the 2.1 just seemed more stable. Or maybe I am just used  to it.

@SEP1006 swears by his Armlock. I tried a 2.1 Armlock PGA SS and it was money!! If Inwas to start over with a L.A.B. Putter I think I might start with a 2.1 Armlock. But….. no one is taking my Broom!

I don’t think it’s possible to make a more stable putter than the DF2.1. Nothing really will come close

How do these putters work for people that generally have pull misses and putt with putters with a lot of toe hang?

I'm trying to understand if these would be less than ideal for my stroke like a face balanced putter generally is. @labgolf

@tbone107 you clearly are a strong golfer with a +3, if you have read 80 pages of this string and all you see is very positive to like magic comments I am shocked that you are not getting a club to demo ASAP. I am guessing that there is no other club in your bag where you could improve by multiple strokes. Go for it, what do you have to lose? I had a Bettinardi Baby Bee in my bag which is face balanced and after getting use to the DF2.1 I pulled it out and it felt like I was trying to hold a bucking bronco. The DF is totally different feel as it swings its self it you follow the instructions on how to use it.

I’ve played a few more rounds with the DF armlock recently and it still is something to behold. Every putt I line up I know has a good chance of going in if I get the speed right. I had an off day ball striking and was 4/6 on sand saves. 3 of those were from 6-8 feet. The 2 birdies I made were both 15 footers from the fringe. My putting has gone from average to my biggest strength in just a few months with this.

I have to share the photos of my 2nd LAB DF2.1 custom in red with Accra shaft in black. The images on their website don't do justice to how beautiful the finish is. The color is bright but also deeper than it look in photo with a metallic look in person. The finish quality is perfect and seems to be more of an anodized finish than paint but a very thick anodizing.  Thank you to LAB for making such a great quality product.

Is that the standard red?  It doesn't look like the ones I have seen.

Yes this is the current red. I was thinking that maybe they have changed how they do it as it looks different than the ones I have seen pictures over the years. Maybe @labgolf can share if they have upgraded their manufacturing process to something better now than the old ones. QUESTION @labgolf is the Red on Mezz and DF2.1 the same? Has it changed from older models? Is something new?

That looks much more like the MEZZ Red as opposed to the almost maroon red of the DF. Looks awesome!

I just bought the DF 2.1 Armlock with the exact head but with the White Accra shaft and different alignment aids. And yes, the pics don't do justice to how sharp these look.

And mine is the same shade/color of red as his.

Does anyone have any input on shaft selections? Have you used the original or going with a different one? Is it worth the upgrade or can you even tell a difference?

For me it depended on the putter. I haven’t tried the LINK at all. For the MEZZ Max for me the feel/sound was much nicer with the Accra shaft vs steel, not sure there was a big performance difference. For the DF the thing is so darn stable, both steel and Accra felt great but slight nod to the Accra. I think the upgraded shaft may also make a bigger difference on the armlock/broomstick models but haven’t tried those out. So all that to say, I don’t think the Accra will change your life but do think it’s “better”.
