P790 Ti iron review.

I hit a demo 7 iron today of these irons and wanted to share my experience with this club. I hit it with a dynamic good x100 shaft.

 

Looks: the club head is large, maybe one of the largest club heads I have seen in a while. But surprisingly, it has pretty clean lines. There is not a ton of offset, the top line although thick is not distracting. They have a bit more of a satin look instead of chrome.

 

Performance: these are a strong lofted distance iron for sure. I was getting 140 ball speeds, and carrying the 7 iron 220 plus. For me, that is just too far. There is no need to hit an iron that far. For many though with the right shaft combo it could be the ticket to keeping their game alive for a few more years.

 

Feel: I am a mizuno and forged iron guy and these feel flat out harsh. The titanium and high amount of tungsten produce a very hard feel. I don’t think there is enough space in the head for enough speed foam to soften them up.

220 with a 7 iron? Seriously? Seen oither tests on these heads and two things came out. Zero performance benefit and they finish looks shocking. No idea why TM have brought these to market other than bling factor.

Demoed these also, 2 clubs longer. Anyone looking for distance, these are the ticket! Epic Forged are another option.

Won’t get into the loft argument because that horse is dead. But to your question why they would bring it out is the pxg factor. Just like Callaway releasing a high price iron.

790Ti's are shockingly big. Best club in this hollow body space is the new Cobra Forged Tech. Cobra crushed it.

I completely agree, and they are less than half the retail price.

Were those pulls? 14 and 28 yds left with some serious sidespin. Where those outliers or the norm.

 

When I tried the P790ti against the new P790 i was seing about 5-7 extra yards out of the Ti version. And with the P790 I saw about 5 extra yards compared to my current 0211's. If I intentionally hard swing pull any 7 iron, I can get an extra 10 to 15 yards out of it.

They were pretty good draws. I was not intentionally trying to hit them hard to prove anything. My normal ball speed with a 7 is about 133. These are 140!

The shaft was standard Length. It was not the stock shaft that comes with the set but a standard length demo shaft.

Just thinking about your normal gapping at the bottom of your bag gives me a headache. Could not even imagine it with the P790ti.

They look awful to me. I don't get it - they cost a small fortune and look cheap. Interesting concept.

Yeah i agree, but for the guy or gal that hits their driver 200 yards. Maybe, these will help. They would be better served spending the $2800 on lessons though.

People have gaps at either end of the bag that need to be filled regardless of what club they play. I would rather have more wedges than hybrids and woods, plus it’s a lot easier to play various shots with scoring irons and wedges than longer clubs

I’m an older 6 hcp and only hit my driver 230. I just purchased a set of these and they are fantastic. With diminishing club head speed, I don’t need lessons, just more tech to help with distance. I too was young once - a 1 hcp and hit my titleist 905 driver 295. Those days are long gone, as is flexibility. So there IS a place for these irons and they’re helping me enjoy the game. Not everyone has 120 mph driver speed...

I hit these against my current irons(epic forged) and suddenly had Deja Vu! The sound and feel were eerily like another set of Titanium irons from TM that I overpaid for in 1997. Ti Bubble 2! Everything old is new again!

I don’t think anyone is saying distance irons shouldn’t exist. More that $3000 for strong lofts and ugly badging is a bit of a reach.

How do you get 1000 and 1225 side spin with a 7i???!? That backspin is kind of low for a 7i and ball speed of 140...

Weird and unless he shows the club head at 96mph it’s not the club getting the distance...

Ugh idk why my driver speed is so low. I get 130-131 bs with traditionally lofted player's 7 iron, but can rarely crack 170 mph with driver

Yeah I’m a bit slower but I’m leaving a lot on the table with driver. It’s frustrating. Going to work on it this winter.

When I saw these I thought that the only thing I would consider one for is a long iron replacement. I'm not sure if they can be bent, but the 19* 4-iron bent a few degrees week could be a good tool.

I am over 100 with a standard 7. With my set is am typically in the 131-133 ball speed range with a 7 iron.

Yeah, just looked up the lofts, 28.5 degree 7i? At least the AW is like a PW. Obviously, someone misprinted the numbers on the soles of the clubs LOL...
