best 3 wood in recent years

I'm a loyal Callaway player. I went from the XR to the XR16 and then on to the Rogue standard version which is a great club. But the XR16 is still very close. Prior to picking up the Rogue head I bought a GBB and BBA 816 heads to do a shootout with my XR16. That never really happened after getting the Rogue, but the BB 816 is a great head as well. Fubuki Ax f65 was used in all of these heads.

Its the Epic for me ...Ive never hit a 3 wood long enough to start noticing wear but I have just about beat that thing to death over the last 2 seasons and thats record time in the bag for most any club let alone a 3w.

I must say I am intrigued by all the love here for epic flash and with their prices falling it may be time to start dating again.

Did any of you on here who have commended about the rogue use the 3+ version? How is that as a driver backup/replacement for off the tee?

We're going on a Minimalist Adventure who knows were we'll end up:

After 12 years of playing an Exotics CB2 it was time for a replacement due to cracking the face on my 5WD. So I figured, why not replace both? I called Tour Edge to find out what they'd suggest to replace the CB2 and explained I'd bagged it for 12 years. In the course of the conversation I told them about the damaged club and wanted to replace both. Due to Tour Edge having a Lifetime Warranty they replaced the 5WD with a CBX 119 for FREE! They also sold me a matching 3WD+ for $179 & free 2 day shipping. Can't beat that folks!!!

As far as 3WD performance it lives up to the Exotics claim. I've compared them to the Epic Flash SZ, Rogue SZ, M2, M6, TS2, RBZ2 and a couple others. To make a long story short and because I have to go I'll simply say this. If I wasn't bagging the CBX 119, I'd go TS2 and RBZ2, and M2 in that order.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

I remember the original XR as having a buttery soft feel that was kind of addicting. At the time I was playing the original XR fairways I was playing GBB driver. I was happy with it, but once I tried the XR16 driver it went straight in the bag for the extra forgiveness. That being the case I went to the XR16 fairways and was just as thrilled with them. For me I think they were a little bit longer. I know I really liked looking down at them with the little bit of crown graphic on the back edge. Both versions were great. I recall a lot of tour pros stayed with the original. Especially those in the pro version. I still have my XR16 driver, 3 & 5 woods. Have no intentions of letting them go.

It's nice to see some OEMs like TM designing their fairways different than following the design language of their drivers since they are fundamentally very different clubs.

I've gone though too many 3Ws to count but that being said I found the new SIM Ti a delight and after testing on the range and on the course I purchased one. It's crazy expensive but I find it very nice.

I'm in the market for a 3 wood also. After all the research I've done, a lot of videos and threads on 3 woods lol, if I were going to buy one site unseen right now I'd buy the Epic Flash SZ. That is the only one that, best shot to best shot in tester videos, appears to kick the crap out of everything else.

I haven't found anything easier to hit than the G400 3w yet... I have not tried the 410, but I plan to eventually... Also want to give the Srixon F85 a try... Seems like most are getting easier to elevate and hit from the deck these days, but the Pings are stupid easy.

I currently have a Srixon F85. I've rotated my old Adams back in the bag a couple of times. But I have the Srixon in there right now. It's a 13.5*. Here's a review.

Looks: It's a really good looking club at address and due to the size it looks really easy to hit. It has a deep face which gives me confidence off the tee, but it doesn't play like it has a deep face off the turf.. The carbon crown is very similar to the Callaway. My one issue with the looks is that when just sitting on the ground it appears 1/2 to 1* closed. It may just be the way it appears because I don't have a problem hooking it. It's easy to draw though.

Sound: It sounds really good. A nice muted thud. Not dead and not hollow sounding (my biggest complaint with a lot of Ping's woods).

Forgiveness and Dispersion: This is where it shines. It really is stupid easy to hit. Despite it being a 13.5* I have no problem launching the ball on a really good trajectory off the ground. And I've found it generally goes really straight or a nice little draw.

Distance: This is the part I'm not certain about. I would consider it average by today's standards (TS2/G410). I've never had it on a launch monitor so this could very well be the shaft as I would say I suspect it's spinning a little more than I'd prefer which may be costing me 5 or 10 yards, but I haven't taken the time to install a different shaft. From what I read the Flash and the SIM seem to be a little longer.

Overall: It is a really nice club. I've been shopping, but by the time I can test some clubs I may decide to keep the Srixon in the bag due to the launch and forgiveness and sacrifice the distance. Because if I was hitting it 10 yards farther i wouldn't consider replacing it.

I hope that helps!
