Best 3wood off the deck for 2020

Ping, G400/410. Easiest 3w I have played yet. For me, I had to ask myself, "do I really need the 3w?"... I played a 4w for a little bit and there are a couple par 5s we play that I'd get right up in front of the green so 3w gets me on it 2 on a couple now. If neither gets you there, then go for the loft for ease of use, but if you could really use the extra distance and have the game to make it work check out the Ping offerings. Seriously easy to hit.

I'd go 5 wood at that speed. Loft it down to fit the gaps. The carry distance between a 3 and 4 wood isn't a lot. The consistency, spin and height are a noted improvement (at least for me and I'm around 115 driver ss). For me a 3 wood has no chance of holding a fast green it's going to run out too much

Tried to replace my XR16 many times over the years and none is easier to hit. Ball gets up fast and it goes pretty straight if you thin it.

The most frustrating shot in golf is 225 away after a perfect drive. Topped/hooked/drilled still 175 away. I am done with 3 wood. Cobra F7 5 wood cut .5 inch off stock. Much higher success rate. I also worship a hybrid. Hit the Sim max HB at golf town and I gotta say...good numbers. But my point is this...off the deck 200-250 take it easy on yourself. Trying to dig a 3 wood out of the first cut is a recipe for disaster. Get there in two because your drive rolled out not because you hit a miracle 3 wood. So I say 4-5 wood that looks to your eye like you can kill it. No doubts. I have removed all doubtful clubs from my bag. 4 wedges...not for me. 13.5 3 wood...nuts.

I use a Ping G30 3W that I got about 5 yrs ago and I was probably around 20cap then. I use it off the tee, off the deck and out of the rough. Everywhere I can use it. I don't know which of the new clubs would be similar but find it really good. Not sure of my SS with 3W but I am 105 with driver, so probably in the 90's too. I did try a Callaway Epic 3w a couple months ago but found it less forgiving and the fitter said it has to be hit consistently in the centre of the face and there are more forgiving options. I also tried TM M6 and the thing went a mile but was not as accurate for me. Maybe I should try the Ping 410 too, if I get a chance, the G30 is getting pretty worn.

Interesting, almost every manufacturer on the planet makes the best 3 wood off the deck.

I just picked up an epic flash, but haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

EF was my vote earlier in this thread. You'll love it.

I actually just grabbed an EF 5 wood to match it and switch out with my hybrid depending on needs.

I play both at -1" though...42.5" and 41.5"

Callaway Rogue 4 wood is great off the deck, extremely forgiving across the face and probably as long as most 3 woods.

For me, a 3 wood with a compact head and a shorter shaft (~42.5”} works best off the deck. Easier to make clean contact.

Limiting yourself to just new club options is a mistake. There are numerous older clubs out there that would meet your needs. Why buy new and play into the hand of the manufacturers? For years I gamed a TM 2006 Burner 3 wood. Butter cuts, baby draws, you name it, I could hit it. Wish I had that club today! Sadly, some years ago a playing partner borrowed it and snapped the head off. Re-shafting did not bring the club back to its dreamy feel.

I know it’s not in your list but the Titleist TS2 is hard to beat. Can’t see anyone having trouble with the 16.5 degree and the right shaft.

I also play it at 42,5“ .... Phil would say „hitting bombs“

shaft is muuuuch more important then head.

I love my mizuno st190 off the deck, i picked it up on a crazy deal early this year and have been beyond impressed at how well it does off the deck. I consistently hit it 225-235 and I replaced my 5 wood with a mavrik 4 hybrid and the gapping between the the 3 wood and the hybrid has been better than i couldve hoped for.

rails came with the f7, which is in my bag. it´s a absolute rocket off the deck. And F7 was the last adjustable with two weight settings.

I would say that F7, F8, F9 and SZ should perform equal. but yeah something definetly is about those rails

Ping 400-410 heads are great off the deck since they are shallow.

Cobra f9 and speedzone are great off the deck as well.

But make sure you get fit or at least have access to different head/shaft combos. That way you can see what works best for your swing.
