Sore fingers and hand - outset arthritis. What do you take? CBD Oil? Asprin?

Recommended Posts

I will be turning 60 soon. Time flies. I used the computer a lot when I worked full time. Right hand fingers get sore sometimes and one or two on the left hand.

I will probably go see a doc soon. I know it is inflammation and I am trying to make sure to avoid foods that may cause inflammation. Fortunately, I never had any injuries so back, knees and the rest are fine. Left shoulder sometimes a little sore.

Anyone else in the same boat and what did you do?

Kudos to Phil who is still playing great golf and dealing with a pretty serious issue with arthritis.

I am working from home due to Covid. I use a desktop but work give me a smallish laptop and no docking station. Over the past few weeks I have been getting aches and pains. My physio calls it deskworkitis....In addition we are back playing on a baked course with cast heads and PX shafts. I would see a physio before trying any medication. And my next irons will be graphite shafted....

This is from a well respected rheumatologist well over 20 years ago. The biggest trick in medicine is finding what works for each individual patient, then getting the patient to stick with it.

Under 2 months from hitting 62. Numerous injuries & scars to go with it. Well over 15 years ago started straight glucosamine/chondriten every day per that rheumatologist. Body has been real happy with that. Osteoarthritis in the hands got bad enough over a year ago that I started trying over the counter stuff. I work with physicians every day so consulting with a doctor is a daily routine. Found that 600mg ibuprofen in the morning & then again in the evening helps me stay ahead of it. On days when my hands get a bunch of hard work, have found the WalMart (equate), brand of aspercream helps the fingers & thumbs greatly. Have been on the ibuprofen regiment for over 2 years now. Always have labs & doctors visits 4 times a year minimum. Even have scripts for hydrocodone & flexeril, but one script usually lasts me a year. I have graphite shafts to put in my irons, will start working on the whole process this month. So start with your physician to find out what you should avoid for over the counter stuff. Your current meds might not be compatible with some. Most physicians currently are very reluctant to prescribe meds due to the opioid problem. FDA did a big crackdown. So over the counter stuff, ice packs, heat, etc. are most of what will likely be suggested.

If it's inflammation, I would look at Relief Factor first as it's a natural product and not a drug. It works great on most inflammation.

I've been wanting to try CBD but if you have to pass drug screens, I wouldn't advise it until testing that doesn't throw false positives for marijuana becomes standard.

I am 65 and several years ago I had a lot of pain in my knuckles which I never had diagnosed. It got to the point where I was using jumbomax grips to make golf playable. Anyway I cut way back on my sugar intake and the pain disappeared. I don't know if this would work for anyone else or if the sugar was really the cause of my pain but that was my experience. YMMV.

Also try OTC Alleve (Naproxen Sodium) if Ibuprofen does not help or maybe better results. Its longer acting 8-12 hours. While waiting for back surgery

with extreme L5/S1 herniated disc Alleve worked better for me than Tylenol 3 with Codine prescription. Every body reacts different so try different OTC Tylenol, Ibuproven and Naproxen Sodium and see what works bet for you.

Thanks. Another good one is Tumeric with black pepper and ginger. You can get it from Amazon, Piping Rock, Swansons Vitamins, etc. Tumeric in heavy doses is supposedly good for some cancers. I also have tried CBD oil which seems to help. Reduces inflammation - lots of sources but CBD Distillery in Colorado online is good.

Awesome and bingo! Sugar supposedly causes lots of inflammation. I drink Diet Coke and need to cut it out because I think it is if anything worse. Sugar, which is an acid, supposedly causes cracks in our arteries which causes gooky stuff in our blood to get caught on those cracks. The only thing to repair it is Vitamin C and a lot of it. Sugar also supposedly is an engine for feeding cancer. Having our bodies more acidic (sugar) supposedly causes cancer. Cancer dies when we are more alkaline.

CBD usually has a trace amount of THC. It has to be below 0.3% by law. If you get drug tested it is an issue. You can also get THC Free CBD oil which has zero THC. The best prices and reputable brand that I know is CBD Distillery in Colorado. They are online. I think you can get it for $20. I have no connection with them.

Yes use CBD oil for arthritis..... I should know!

had so bad I had to play with a splint on my middle right finger..... great for flippin off the guys at the course

switched to Jumbo grips and really helped for a loose grip.

Limit practice.... practice gentler shots more like chipping, putting, short wedge shots more then long game.

Can't figure how to like my own posts

Have had many patients that recommend CBC oil. Myself, have to wait over three years before I can try it. Federal government work. Thought of an old one.....but it is kind of a last resort, DMSO. The pepper products cause skin irritation. SNIPERBBB I will look into Relief Factor. Have tried 2 previous natural products with no effect. Also thanks guys for mentioning sugar. I have been watching my intake on that for many years & did not think of it in my post.

I had major hand surgery (35 stitches) for Dupuytren's disease. My other hand has arthritis in several knuckles. I've had to change my grip to take the pressure off of some of my fingers with arthritis. I no longer hit balls to warm up before a round . . . . just lots of stretching and "warm up" practice swings. My hands hurt when I hit the ground hard with a club, so I try to "pick" the ball more now. That doesn't always work, however.

I’m about 20 years your junior, but I have a degenerative wrist condition due to a run in with an IED in 2004. I’ve had multiple hand/wrist surgeries and have tried everything from OT, prescription drugs (narcotics and NSAIDS), injections, etc.

What has worked best for me, though, is compression and Aleve. I wear a splint at night to immobilize my wrist while I sleep, a compression sleeve while I type, and elastic medical tape while I play golf (link below).

You need to experiment with what works best, but I truly believe compression is the most important piece. I agree re the Voltarin. I’ve used it via script for years and now get it at Costco. I have arthritis in one finger and when it bothers me I apply liberally. That and 800mg Motrin.

I tried CBD oil, it worked but didn’t last long. Maybe not strong enough though. My current choice is Aleve on game day before playing 2 then after one more that evening.

Hoping to try CBD again and get off NSAIDs all together.

What was your source for CBD? Everything I am seeing on it is saying that if you find it in walmart or at and mass retail store/gas station you might as well be drinking tea.

I have pain is my knees and back and shoulder due to injuries, which I expect is arthritis since I am 55. I do strength training once a week that increases circulation in the problem areas and also tightens up the joints, which I understand is related to arthritis. I also do intermittent fasting, which means I don't eat dinner. All my calories are had by 3:30 or so, with a coffee/beer around 6. I feel it has helped the inflammation in my knees and back a great deal too.

"Shirtsleeve" swing technique:

1. Setup: Elbows bent forearms pressed together against shaft slightly forward of center with "Hogan" "active/flexed" leg tension left foot turned out slightly and the right leg slightly farther to the right - weight mostly on balls of feet butt of left hands sits on the top of the grip with very light grip.

2. Swing - W/o disturbing weight distribution of legs and feet lower hands while doing a forward press "swing trigger" then the left upper arm takes over on the backswing, it needs to go out in front of the body then back in front of the chest as the hands trace down initially then up to over the right shoulder "Torres". The goal is to not disturb the pressure of the feet during the initial takeaway.

Notes:

1. Only swing thought after swing trigger - extend left arm at shirt sleeve when reaching left hand over right shoulder "Shirtsleeve technique".

2. The upper left arm move "Shirtsleeve technique" can be practiced independently without a club, sitting down for instance

3. The correct feet tension can be felt by doing very short hops on the balls of the feet then holding the same feeling of pressure on the front of the feet and then taking three practice swings with the grip very loose in order to not disturb the same pressure on the feet and on the 3rd swing actively do the "Shirtsleeve" move. From there the swing should be done within a matter of seconds to not lose the feel of the legs resisting, this way this is not a learned technique as much as it is a setup technique.

Check with your local VA. They might be able to supply you with the wrap. It comes in various sizes & colors. Either your primary provider, physician therapy, or ortho clinic should be able to verify that it is a needed everyday item. So you might be able to have it for free. Now if you would be interested in a larger size wrap. Any place that has veterinary supplies would have VetWrap. It is 2 1/2" wide & I believe 5 yds long. Been around for over 30 years. Still remember when I first saw a patient having that type of wrap on, "My God.....took them long enough to figure out using that stuff on humans!".
