Except those clearly aren't the same situation but carry on making yourself look foolish. Rory let everyone around him know what was happening and everyone agreed to the situation before he touched the ball. That is not what happened with the cheater.

Not quite sure as he’s the one looking foolish as he’s not the one trying to draw line between the two in that case. Go back about 6 pages, there both posted here.

Rory: him and his partners are reasonably sure it’s embedded to the extent they don’t need to call an official

PR: him and his partners are not sure enough it’s embedded, to the extent that they need an official.. SO WHY PICK IT UP...

Lost my respect for this entire CBS announcing crew.

Agree. And it sucks cause I’m a pretty big Nance and Pepper fan actually. I suppose they did not make as big of asses of themselves as the rest of the crew.

Also, freaking awesome that Nobilo was talking all that crap about reed like he was some holier than though rules expert, instead of a failed former tour player, and then he totally blew the rules call about the ball moving after the coin was removed. To bad reed did not know so he could chastise the hell out of Nobilo In the post round interview.

It was so embarrassing for CBS when they spent the first 15 mins with all the announcers doing the somber tone bit looking straight into the camera as if some national tragedy had just occurred.

No he didn't. I watched the video. There isn't anyone within 10 yards of cheater when he's down there fiddling with his ball. He tells his playing partners "they said it didn't bounce" and that was enough to make them not come over and pay real attention to what he was doing. The replay of the ball actually bouncing and landing softly is what really says it all. Literally the only way there could have been an indentation is if cheater pushed the ball or his finger down there and created it.

The rules official could not accurately assess the situation after cheater already messed with the lie.

It's unbelievable that there are still people defending this clown, but here we are.

Because indentations just don't exist on the ground, lol?

It sounds to me after all this is that the PGA Tour needs more rules officials, say 3 for every hole. Then add a guy in the network van to double-check everything people see on the coverage. In this case if there is a rule official close to where Reed's ball lands he can look at it almost immediately and make a call when he gets there, no amateur spotters necessary.

With the accusations of cheating going around (and remember a few years ago when there a massive controversy here about Tiger improving his lie in the trees at some tournament or the drop he got at the Masters) the only way things end is to blanket the course with professional rules people who know what they are doing. then rules controversies will die down to whine and cheese discussions.

And frankly, for some of you who are complaining about this mess so much, go to classes become a rules official, and get hired by the PGA, LPGA, or USGA and become part of the solution instead of getting into arguments over people cheating. If you don't want to do golf, then do another sport.

Funny.  PointsBet is refunding all bets on golfers that are not Patrick Reed, and calling it the Patrick Reed Good Karma payout....   lol.

Rory meanwhile literally told everyone in his group, and around him, "i think my ball is embedded". Other people with him then came and looked and agreed. He then touched his ball. So not even close to the same thing. Literally you would have to do mental gymnatics to come to that conclusion.

It's unbelievable that there are still people defending this clown, but here we are.

Do you have a link to the video where the other players come over and look at Rory's ball?  Because the one video I've seen doesn't show any of that.

Reducing his thoughts to words has never been a strong suit for Nick

Heavy dose of groupthink at ole CBS today

As far as the matter of actual pro golf, if I'm a top 15 or 20 player, this Patrick Reed presents a big problem the way he chips and putts it

2nd in SG putting for a top player is very very strong

I don’t believe any players did but the volunteers on 18 helped him look for it and it was actually one of them who found his ball. He was checking with Sabatini after assessing the lie and embedded nature to make sure he handled the drop properly.

According to Faldo, lol, the only difference was Patrick called for an official!  I can't even begin to explain how he messes up trying to explain his way out of that.

You could argue that Reed asked if it bounced before he even got to the ball to prep for the supposed embedded lie as if he was planning for it. Wouldn’t you normally look for your ball and then ask if it bounced once you determined it was embedded. Rory actually took a minute to find his ball, found it, then determined it was embedded.

Listen buddy. I never actually caught my parents putting presents under the Christmas tree. But i still know Santa isn't real.

I beg to differ and ever since my first child was born I've never, ever uttered those words out of an abundance of caution and concern as an adult I'd spoil some kid's Christmas.

Santa is real and he is spectacular!

You are pure class aren’t you. Insulted three people in about a page and a half. You realize you’re argument doesn’t have any legs so you’re resorting to childish insults. Hurr dur?  Nice way to present yourself in a discussion.

Go to the :25 mark. There are multiple people standing right there looking at him as he assesses and takes relief. Anything sketchy he could possibly be doing, they would see it and call him out.

But they don't, because they see what he is doing, with their eyeballs, and also he's not a cheating cheater with a history of cheating.

You could, but then whether it bounced was also discussed with the players/caddies right after he hit it - kind of takes the mens rea right out of it.

Right, calling people who disagree with you "haters" and presenting no arguments to defend what you are saying is really super mature. You've added nothing but snark to this entire discussion.

The spotters and marshals yes.  But they're not there to assess his lie just to point out where the ball is.  To be embedded doesn't mean buried.  Just has to break the surface.  Those people aren't going to try and evaluate that.

That’s usually where people go when they don’t actually have the ability to defend their stance.  My feelings are okay. 😁
