I think I got scammed by selling from here as buyer is reporting they did not get the item. What should I do next?

I hate to be the pessimist here, but man, this is gonna take some time to resolve, and a lot of diligence on your part.

I dont even know how it works committing felonies across state lines, and who is charge of what, and under what jurisdiction and authority, etc etc.... But in COVID times, with law enforcement being overwhelmed, I dunno how much local police can do tbh.

Assuming you had the IP address, I dont know how much more relevant that is, when you actually have a shipping address already on hand. Assuming it was not even his house, someone signed for it at that address, and someone received it, so Im sure thats a better starting point than looking up an address associated with an IP, and having someone from the police go knock on the door to see if that address is even legit.

Ive worked with PayPal on even simpler issues than this, and you will be connected with a "specialist" who only has to go by what records they have, and their protocols. You can send them all the texts, emails, messaging, and even signature of receipt, and yet, their policy is that it has to be shipped to a address associated with the PayPal account.

https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/ua/useragreement-full#seller-protection

""You must ship the item to the shipping address on the transaction details page in your PayPal account for the transaction. If you originally ship the item to the recipient's shipping address on the transaction details page but the item is later redirected to a different address, you will not be eligible for PayPal's Seller Protection. We therefore recommend not using a shipping service that is arranged by the buyer, so that you will be able to provide valid proof of shipping and delivery.""

I wonder if contacting your home owners insurance, or at least talking with your insurance agent might help? I have no idea, so if someone knows if this type of fraud is covered, please chime in. I have a pretty high deductible on my home owners tho... Most would agree you would have to weigh your options on whether to pursue it that way or not.

At this point, I think the authorities will treat this just like a stolen package claim, which sucks because statistics for how many people actually get charged is around 10%. We all wish this person will be thrown in jail, face some time in prison for the

ft, and hopefully released as a changed man(or woman), but reality is not always pretty or encouraging...

I wish I had more encouraging things to say, and I truly hate that this happened to you. I just dont think there is a easy or quick way this is going to go in your favor. 😣

I don't even understand this scam if it involves delivering to an actual address. And signature, in this case. That seems to make it incredibly easy to bust, doesn't it? Is the idea that none of the relevant parties will find the theft severe enough to truly invest the time in bringing the offender to justice?

I'd keep an eye out for local Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp, etc. listings for your item.

This is awful and I really hope you bring this guy down. And get your money back.

Man, this sucks. Sorry.

I sold a Cameron to a guy on this forum. He seemed like a decent enough guy, but he wanted me to ship it to Scotty's Custom Shop for refinishing. I absolutely wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, and I can understand the desire to get golf stuff sooner rather than later, but I figured that if I sent it there, I could have been in a bad spot if the guy was shady because it wasn't his Paypal address.

I hope the site can help you get your $ back.

Wow the guy is still active on the site, says he was on 58 minutes ago. I wonder if he's nervous at all or if he thinks he's more than likely all clear. Would love to hear his thoughts. Judging by his two posts I get the feeling he is a regular member of the site who just made a new username

I'm under the impression that you lose all protection from PayPal when you ship to an unverified address

I would gather up all the info you have on him and present it to your local authorities. They can figure out who it is in less than 15 minutes, it's just a matter of them actually getting to it and then doing something about it, as they get a lot of these cases and it's not high priority for them. Imagine being so desperate and pathetic to do this to someone

Would that be local authorities for me

or for the location of buyer?

I don't know much about Skytrak but if the item in question is a SkyTrak. Can you report it Skytrak, along with the serial number so they can blacklist the monitor making it useless to the scammer.

Was just about to do that. 🙂

Only problem is you might punish the person who bought it from the guy who you sold it to

That person would then end up being an innocent victim (that is if the guy you sold it to already sold it)?

The “buyer” provided the Skytrak info he is registering it to. So I’m asking Skytrak to suspend or hold it for now. Hoping they can help.

Or has bad tile in his kitchen floor in Alabama?

Or has a penchant for poking bears?

Or is a PGA Apprentice that had his business (and bosses) affected b/c of trying to rip someone off?

Not that I suggest pulling this lever (yet)...but, like its been metioned...it would take about 10 minutes to find out who he and and his family is...where they all work...who his boss is...and every detail there is about this guy.

I don't want to pile on but i have to just a little....Sold a skytrak  to a guy who just joined with no posts and did not send it to a verified address??...........Ok, now that that is out of the way count me as being in your corner......Wouldn't this be considered premeditated fraud...Seems like paypal would want to get to the bottom of something like this.

Just my .02, if I were you I'd intercept that shipment immediately.

There are providers that offer insurance for both claims and paypal/credit card chargebacks. It costs a fair amount as a percentage of the sale, but IMO I do it for anything shipped over $300.

It was already delivered and signed for days ago per OP.  Can you intercept after delivery?
