Feel

Obviously always subjective but these irons have a classical Mizuno "hand feel" with a different sound that I have not heard from the MP20's or others. I think the closest in sound is the i59 and i210 - which for me, is a good thing. Its a very satisfying combination. The feel is softer and not as "solid" as i.e. Miura irons (i wouldnt describe Miura as soft, for reference).

 

Consistency

50 balls is likely not enough to tell but so far, I'm impressed. Very tight groupings in terms of speed and spin, haven't had one that over or underperformed significantly

 

Forgiveness

Very high for this class of iron. I think thats the most surprising to me. These are more forgiving than the T100 and i59's for certain. They retain spin and speed better than the MP20 MMC's. I would say they feel at least on the same level as the i210's but with a smaller footprint and better ballspeed retention. What really stood out to me is that they seem to retain speed pretty much all over the face, regardless if low, high, heel or toe strike (please keep in mind, I'm not talking about hoseling it and retaining 120mph, I'm talking off-center strikes). Very impressed by the forgiveness. In this class of irons (coz I know it'll be asked) I'd rank them as follows from most to least "forgiving": 223 > i210 > T100 >= MP20 MMC = i59 > TR20V = CB301 > TC201

 

Progression in set

Very nice to see the set is tuned correctly to enable similar ballflights. My 5 iron shots had the same height as my 7 iron shots and the 9 iron was just a few feet higher. The progressive tech application seems to work well in this set.

 

Turf Interaction

I'll play a round tomorrow and update this. I dont think its possible to judge this off of mats, even thou I'm hitting of a high quality Fiberbuilt.

 

Summary

My initial impression is that these will be a highly successful model for Mizuno and I think they are the first big step that I've seen them take in years. Highly likely that if you are 0 - 15 hcp, these should be on your fitting list for 2022 to try out.

 

 

Curious if distance is similar to other irons?  Also turf interaction is the big one. Hopefully these don’t dig too much.

These sound to be very promising! From your initial results would be safe to assume they’ll be more forgiving than the 921 tours.

Vosh has said they are essentially the 921 forged baked into a smaller package with more ball speed , so I'd say yeah for sure

I can confirm that forgiveness is on the high side and I would confidently underscore my assessment from yesterday. For me the 223's are pretty long as well. High ballspeed numbers across the range. I didn't manage to take the GCQuad out on all shots on the course but on enough that I feel confident to state this. While this is great, it wasn't great for my scoring since I needed to adjust yardages quite a bit. As a comparison, i59 powerspec 8 iron would be 167-170 for me, 8 iron 223 is 175-178 carry.

Right now, I think they'll stay in the bag. I'll do a little shoot-out with the i59's which i also really like but the mix of forgiveness, clean looks and ballspeed is pretty hard to ignore. I prefer the 223's through the turf as well so far

Wow that's a big gain of yardage. Did you notice similar distance gains with the other irons?

Couldnt agree more!! I have a split set, MMC's from P-7 and HMB's from 6-3. Very easy to use and feel amazing.

My only concern with these irons is I’m on the steeper side and always felt like Mizunos would dig on me.

Looks like the sole is a bit of a fatty. Should work ok for you, I also dig a bit.

Unless you compare them to the Cobra RF's, there's really nothing fat about the sole to be honest

When I look down at ball. I felt the t100 and the i59 were a little small for me. Especially thickness wise. I’m not looking for much more. Just a little bit. 
I game srixon 785. They aren’t massive but a little bit more confidence inspiring

If the i59 is too small, the 223's won't be your ticket. They are "larger" than the T100 thou.

I dont have the tour anymore so I can't compare them directly. Just based on memory, they seem roughly the same size, perhaps a bit shorter blade length. The i59 has a longer blade length than the 223's.

I can understand your point now. Thanks for posting the pics. Are the soles wider than the i59? I cant tell.
