Anyone ever buy a new set of irons without seeing them in person?

I hope 5-GW was mistyped. Real XP-1's are 5-11 🙂 You know what they say when the price was "great" 🤣

I said 5-gw so most people know what I meant--yes they say 5-11....:)

I bought a set of new Honma XP-1 irons 5-gw —-offset and blade size seemed to be what I wanted...and the price was great, so I took a chance...

I bought honmas last year without seeing them in person.. turned out really great. Great clubs. One downfall on my set was they were too muted on contact. That was just a small problem but i switched out because of it. If they were cheaper though i would have just played them.

5-11 xp-1 set $435 new at rbg

I don’t know how you got them that cheap at RBG, but I recently picked up a set from RBG (LH) for under $500.  They raised the price now.  Anyway, I traded in two older iron sets from the basement for RBG credit (with trade bonus) and offset virtually the entire cost.  Very nice set of Japanese-made irons, with Nippon 950 shafts, for under $500, sign me up.  Who knows if I will play them regularly (probably not), but looking forward to giving them a go.  Enjoy.

With the exception of a driver and putter I don’t think I’ve ever hit a club before purchase and 40 of my 60 iron sets have been sight unseen. I’m a total impulse buyer when it comes to my golf equipment and then I tinker from there.

Buying a shaft is one thing, even a set of shafts, but I'd never buy a set of irons without seeing or more important, feeling them.  But there are those people that buy and if they don't like them resell them.  If that's "YOU" good luck.  I have better things to do with my time than deal with eBay inquires.  Probably why my golf closet, and shaft & club cabinets are filled.  😛

Umm, this is WRX. Better question is what percentage of clubs have you actually seen and tried in person before you purchased vs. bought because you thought it was a good idea.

I thought the CB 3i looked cool, so I added it to my eBay wishlist to watch. Seller sends me an offer I'm too stupid to refuse. 12 clubs later, I'm wondering what happened. 🤣

Not only have I never seen a KZG in person, I didn't know they existed until 2 weeks ago. Thanks WRX.

I bought them for $485 with 950gh on wed. On Thursday--the price was $435.  So I asked if they would honor the new price. Thy said "no" and pulled down the $435 price...

Miura IC-601 set from Will Peoples, worst money I ever spent. Not the build (which was spot on).

The clubs were ugly and felt like crap off center face strikes, I didn't think it was possible to buy bad Miura irons but those proved anything is possible.

They are sharp, that’s for sure.  RBG is always playing pricing games, but these were under $500 for a week or so when I picked them up, but now they are more in the $600 range.

Yeah, that looks great. My Facebook gets blown up with Honma and those just look incredible. I was surprised (and happy) to see they were less than a grand.

IMO they are terrible looking in person, very wide in the toe and for a hollow body iron  just felt dead.

I was coming off a bad experience with the Callaway EPIC forged (bad Callaway build...twice) and wanted to stay in hollow body and thought they looked good online, Will built them for me to my exact specs, played about 5 rounds and called Will back and made a deal for the CB-301 and then the TC-201.

Hindsight is stupid but I could have sent the EPIC forged (which were a hot and pretty darn good feeling iron to me) to Will and paid for a reshaft and proper build and saved thousands of dollars. But it was fun trying out the Miura products and some exotic shafts.

I knew the only way I would ever hit a KZG was to buy one. That's the same for Miura, Honma, or basically anything cool.

I think there is a PGASS somewhere close, but not a lot of options for testing lefty clubs. Dicks carries jack s*** in left hand.

What he said.  Basically came here to be like “Nooooo way, what kind of idiot would buy clubs without trying them first over the internet based on generic ideas of how they’d fit in to said new release??!?  Oh that’s right, me.”  Glad I’m not the only one.

At the end of the day, it’s fun even if we have to sell the clubs at a loss later.  Hobbies cost money; I can think of worse ones than golf 👍

Yeah, this is how it goes for basically all of us on WRX. Thought that goes through our heads: "Everyone else should go get fitted. But because I have superior knowledge about all golf equipment because of how many TXG videos I have watched and how many threads on WRX I have read, I know X, Y, Z is going to work perfectly for me."

I got bored during this whole Covid Winter and have always been very interested in the PING I1210.  Currently have Ping G irons and wanted to change it up. So after my friend went out and  on a whim bought Cobra Forged Tec irons, I wanted to do something too.  I decided to use the Ping Online fitting tool and give it a whirl. I have had a good idea of my colour code already. Previously fittings placed my G2O Irons in Green. Later I upgraded my irons to Ping G.   Here I was fitted to White plus Half Inch..Last season I really began really hooking the ball more than usual .

So I ordered the i1210 (Back beginning of  January) and received two days ago.    Green DOT, Standard Length, Trying a Project X LZ 6.0 shaft based on their tool and decided to power spec. I think going with the normal specs would have been a decent adjustment of distance loss from my G irons for me.   Anyways I  Just got them on a Simulator a few hours ago. .

Initial Thoughts, really happy after tonight. I Wondered if I would have buyers remorse or find them too much to handle...then figure out what to do with them.  I  play to about a 13-14 currently. They set up and look really nice at address. After getting some swings in to warm up felt my results with the 6-W consisted of nice ball flight and distance not too far off. I would tend to hit the G Irons really high.  Also I could tell  instantly when I hit a bad one. I am not sure I really had feedback like that with the Gs.

I still have my G irons with the thought  I could still put  the 4 and 5 in the bag.  The 4/5 iron  look skinny (compared to what I am used too ) but I found them not intimidating at all,. The balls will get in the air.

For not being in the G line I think many would be surprised with the forgiveness.

Can't wait to get out on the course.
