This seems like it would be the perfect tournament for Rickie to win. Modest event but just in time for TV to start hyping him up before the playoffs where, if he qualifies, he won’t make it to the the Tour Championship.

It doesn't really matter and there is a long way to go but a win at the 3M would put him inside the top 50 I think - so he'd have the Wyndham, Northern Trust and BMW to move up inside the top 30 which isn't inconceivable.  Not sure about his status for the WGC...and I don't see him playing the Barracuda.

After all the nonsense about how Rickie is terrible at golf and overrated and overexposed it would be absolutely hysterical if he made the Tour Championship this year.

Fritelli has a cracked driver face. Official says "can't replace, because of crack, not covered under rule, must be significantly damaged". Fritelli said "OK".

WHUT?

Pardon my ignorance, but isn't a cracked driver face no longer conforming, was broken during play, and can be replaced under 4.a.2? Or was the official leaning on 4.a.1 saying "playing characteristics changed but still legal" (and where Fritelli said "OK")?

I'm dumfounded, so help me understand this one.

It is funny how they STILL keep saying that DJ is playing a SIM2 Max driver with the little Taylormade ad overlay. I wonder how hard TM tried to get him to switch.

I'm sure they pressed pretty hard, but it's probably meaningless when they can run ads saying he plays whatever they say as long as they look similar enough. Hell, knowing DJ, he might not even know which one it is 😉

I also cracked up a little at when TM posted Colin being the Champion golfer of the year "plays SIM2" and they only have the 5W on there. It is strange who is gaming the SIM2 and not. Obviously having your #1 guy and #1 in the world, now #2, not using it isn't ideal, but I often wonder if having Brooks, who is a FA and has dabbled back and forth with drivers, ending up with the SIM2 make up for DJ not using it but 3 weeks this year?

Hah true. Although the whole "dummy" vibe that DJ gives off does mask a pretty sharp sense of what he wants/needs from equipment. Although that could be one of those "fine line between brilliance and idiocy" situations. 😅

It has been strange and interesting for sure. The SIM itself was a pretty big design departure from the M5, and those that benefited the most from those changes are likely hesitant to switch. I think it is a double edged sword in how TM has been launching new lines with big design shifts and then subtle iterations on that shift with the sequels. On one hand it ensures the new line makes a splash, which you want, but on the other it means those that really like the splash aren't going to be so interested in the smaller changes that follow. You can't please everyone all the time!

Whenever we see #1's come and go so frequently, it reminds me yet again how Tiger held on for a decade and it wasn't even close.  Astonishing run.

HaHa thats funny as he did shoot 73 today. Seems like he is lucky just to be in contention for 1 day only. I just don't get it with him. It's a shame as he did have one incredible year . Time for Cobra to go after some younger talent.

Fowler is eligible for the WGC Fed Ex St Jude due to his being on the 2019 Presidents Cup team. No world ranking qualifier attached to the WGC like the PGA Championship where Fowler got a special exemption into the PGA since he was outside the top 100 in the OWGR despite being on the 2018 RC team.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WGC_Invitational#Qualifying_criteria

- Playing members of the last named Presidents Cup or Ryder Cup teams (whichever was played last).

Turns out the exemption for Fowler playing on the last PC Team was used in 2020. He is not eligible for the 2021 WGC St Jude. 8/2 Update.

Fowler makes triple on the 18th. Think they said he was +6 on the last 5 holes or something like that.

That swing on his third shot looked terrible. It looked like some sort of yippy hitch on the way back. I know he’s going through some swing changes but that was peculiar.
