Right, by a margin that wouldn’t be overcome one is a thousand times.  Why the need to rile he crowd as if the outcome could be changed.

When a football team scores a touchdown in the 4th quarter in a game they lead by 21 they shouldn’t  celebrate encourage the crowd to cheer?   No difference here.  You’re winning, doesn’t matter if it’s a route or up 1.  The Euro players and fans sure didn’t stop celebrating in France after it was in doubt.  It’s team sports.  That’s what you do.

Shane complains a lot. In the 2014 US Open, he complained that they put him in a "fat guys tee time" which included Kevin Stadler and Brendon De Jonge.

Edit:  lol, now I know how those multiple posts happen.  I need that red warning from my wife - you must wait 2 seconds!

Ha. Yep. Just watch any NFL defensive player that gets a sack with his team trailing by 20 😂

That article is a joke.  Lowry makes one statement: "I didn't think it was that bad until I asked my wife what it was like for her, and they got abuse coming around as well."  And that's it.....no specifics, no other people in their camp commenting on it.  Yet from that one line you get the headline "Lowry's wife abused by Ryder Cup fans".  I realize this happens often but this one really had me shaking my head.

That is what I was thinking as well. The headline made it sound like she was heckled, booed, or maybe worse which would have been completely over the line and inappropriate, but then the actual article makes no mention of any of that? What does "got abuse coming around" even mean? And how would random fans even know who Lowry's wife is? Seems more like "gotcha" yellow journalism than anything else, but if his wife was on the receiving end of anything then that is definitely inappropriate.

The Euros hero Seve would never do something like...I don't know maybe  rattle tees or change in his pocket when someone is getting ready to hit.... Match play always has gamesmanship. Win you don't notice. Lose and you complain....

Whenever I hear any competitor complain about not giving short putts or other types of "gamesmanship" I think it's a bad look. Just play. I've never been upset if my opponent didn't give me a putt.

Defeat?  They won the match, get over it.  Team was getting beat, but they are supposed to be submissive and subdued while the USA does a bunch of front running celebrations?

LOL.  Let the emotion come out, pretty sure they are the ones under the real pressure.

"Sir, how may I tailor my celebration to meet your specific Monday morning quarterback expectations?"

If he cared more about the team it would have been much more of a restrained celebration. Just shows how euros are only in it for themselves.

Yo Shane.  Thanks for letting everyone know who is living rent free inside your head.  He does realize that by crying publicly like this it’s only going to make it worse next time right?

Fair enough, and all I'm saying is whatever his reason doesn't matter unless putts expected to be given.

And fair enough to your point. But to me If the only reason you’re not conceding a put you would normally concede is because fans are booing you… Well, good for him and bummer for him it didn’t work 😊

btw. Another nice win for your Hawkeyes! Can’t remember the last time they were ranked this high. Game against Penn State should be epic

As long as we have drifted to football, I am reminded of the quote attributed to Lombardi and others, "when you get into the end zone, act like you've been there before."

If Atlanta had kept up the pressure in the 4th quarter, Tom Brady would have 1 less Super Bowl ring.

Teams routinely try to avoid being on the short end of a shutout/blowout.  Even if you don't win, you learn something for the next time.

His celebration on 18 was so strange. If there was an American acting like that in defeat they would be appropriately criticized by the media and it would be one of the biggest stories of the Ryder Cup.

Did you see his "handshake" on 18 after losing to Cantlay in singles? Same exact snub DeChambeau did at the Porsche European for which he was lambasted in the British press. That was a huge story, but Shane gets a pass.

I didn’t see that with Cantlay, no.

I do remember the Porsche tournament with Bryson and it’s a great example. He just choked terribly on the last couple holes and gave a quick handshake. It was nothing out of the ordinary and the press treated it like a war crime.

Spouse’s and significant others walk with the players inside the ropes at the Ryder Cup. As a matter of fact, there were so many people walking with each group, I believe very, very few would even recognize Lowry’s wife.

I was there all three days and heard nothing directed at a player’s wife. Some of the Euro players- yes. And saw two people escorted off the course by security forces for doing so (which the USA fans applauded).

I always get a kick out of seeing, after a match is completed, just how bloody many people gather on the green.  Unreal there isn't more damage to greens.  It's as though there is a 5 families meeting each time.

For the better part of the last 30 years US players have been accused of not caring about the Ryder Cup and now that they do this is also unacceptable?

They can celebrate if they want to.  There wasn’t any need for Cantlay’s based on the score at the time, and one could say the same about Lowry’s, but maybe he thought there was still a chance.

I don’t know much about football, nor care, but if the touchdown was to go up 28 with little time left, then one would wonder why said celebration was necessary.

I’m fine with the fans doing at, as long as respect is involved, just don’t see a lot of reason for players to do it.

Maybe Cantlay really wanted to win his match, and I am fine with that.

I think athletes today—in all sports are much different than even 20 years ago.   They get so much more media coverage at even younger ages. So they have learned from this as it’s the only way they know.

Take the LLWS for example.  You see kids wearing eye black, bat flipping, pounding their chest and all sorts of choreographed celebrations is ridiculous..IMO.

So it isn’t just golf or football. It’s all sports at all levels for the most part.  Much more of a look at me, or I’m going to make a SC Top 10 type of thing.

I agree.  Trying not to be the “get off my lawn” guy.  But a bit too much in many cases.
