I have never hit a PING wedge, and the last time I hit a PING club of any kind was the PING Zing II in…maybe 1998? This year, I want to completely rebuild my bag (except putter) for the first time ever.

Feel is subjective, but what are PING wedges known for? Feel? Consistency? Something else? I’m really interested in these for some reason.

Just all around good wedges. Some have mistakenly talked about the Glide series as being game improvement but they're not, they're in pro bags. They aren't much different in size than the other most common wedges. The Glide Forged is definitely on the smaller size (like smaller than a vokey). Ping has made a lot of wedges (and irons) out of stainless steel. Their durability is second to none but with stainless you get a little harder feel. The new 4.0 glides are made of 8620 and you get a noticeably softer feel. The 4.0's are just excellent all around wedges: looks, feel, consistency, spin, etc.

I am amazed how much life my “old” 3.0 still have in them.  I bought the new set, but have been playing with my old set last 6 months and they are 3 years old.  Of course they are worn down some but they are perfectly playable.  And I’m a range rat.  I play probably 75-100 rounds a year and practice short game a lot.

Driver: Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond 8*, Tensei AV White 75g
Irons: TaylorMade P790, 5-PW; Mitsubishi MMT 110g
Hybrids: Ping G425 19*
Wedges: Ping Glide 3.0 50*, 54*, 60*
Putter: L.A.B. Directed Force 2.1, Polar BGT shaft
Bag: Ping Hoofer Lite Midnight
Ball: Bridgestone Tour B X yellow, Callaway Chrome Soft X LS

Yeah, just don’t know why Ping designers have become so attached to extremely rounded leading edges. Every release since Glide 2.0 has it. Maybe it’s because Mike Nicolette left for PXG that caused the change, but imho it’s def been a bad design change.

I'm pretty convinced my Glide 2.0 stealths have plenty of life left in them, I just fall down this rabbit hole about how you need to replace your wedges so frequently and I do have a noticeable dent/gouge in the leading edge of my 54. Last time I checked, that leading edge never touches the ball (well at least it isn't supposed to). I get plenty of spin. The little micro grooves or whatever they are called are still visible right in the sweetspot where the club is most worn. I'll probably buy 4.0's simply because the golf marketers are so effective at convincing us we need to buy the new stuff.

They've been making that Eye 2 shape since about 1982, obviously some people like it. It's obviously very different than the standard model. I tried it in 2010ish when they came out with the Eye 2 XG model. Performance was good but I don't think I'll ever go back to it (or the other manufacturer's who've copied the concept with their "high toe" models).

That's actually the problem- it's not the Eye 2 of yesteryear .....I'd still bag the originals- if it weren't for the groove rule.

I've tried every version since the iWedge & none perform the same as the OG's

I still have a couple that go in the bag depending on conditions.

Just got my email that my 54 and 60 Glide 4.0 have arrived at my fitter's shop....it's about a 50 minute drive away so with work won't be able to get them until Thursday or Friday.

Speaking of grinds has anyone tried a custom grind on the Glide 4.0s? I'd like to try a 58 with just a little more versatility than the SS but not quite as thin as the TS.

Maybe SS with Back-Heel grind? Or Half-Moon grind? Isn't the TS this year based on the Half-Moon grind? But I'm guessing SS + Half-Moon still plays with more bounce than the TS.

I picked up a T grind 60. Compared to the 3.0 TS (which I really like), I would say the leading edge isn’t as sharp, which helps in softer conditions. For me the glide wedges are the most user friendly wedges I’ve ever tried. However, unlike a typical WRX’r, a curved leading edge doesn’t bother me. I don’t mind a little offset either.

I received my 4.0s this week. A couple of observations. They are rounded. I looked at them compared to some 3.0s the shop had and it may be toned down a bit but they still lean to that end of the spectrum more than a straight leading edge.

Feel is where these set themselves apart from older Glides and even Vokey. I played 2.0 Stealths all last season. I have a set of SM8s I had been using early this year. I also have some PXG Sugar Daddy. These 4.0s feel much softer to me than both of the cast. Well struck shots are forged feeling but not quite a dense as the PXGs. Misses feel a bit clicker but still better than any cast wedge I have tried.

Spin is off the charts good. Not sure what Ping did but these are the best spinning wedges I have tried. Trajectory is also fantastic. They launch so low due to the extra grab and spin. I have S400s in mine and they just allow all the shots to be played as needed. I guess I have my wedges for this season.

I really love the glide 2.0 ES in my 58*. I think the glide 4.0 E is just a bit too much. I think I’m going to to glide 4.0 54* S and glide forged pro 59* eye toe this time around.
