Firmer forged irons

So many adjectives and descriptors that could easily mean different things to each player.  Started out years ago with Titleist MB blades and CBs which I personally would have described describe as slightly harsh because of the vibration transmitted whether using Project X of TT shafts.  After that phase moved to mostly Mizuno blades and CBs and occasionally Miura CBs.

The Miuras in particular are often more described as “sweet” which many interpret as vibrationless.  When nutted, It’s often like the club head embraces the ball and sends it down range without any harshness being transmitted through the shaft and grip to your hands.   But, different types of shafts and grips will definitely impact such feelings in a significant way, so with both Miuras and Mizunos, shaft selection is critical to achieve the desired feel each of us seeks.

Very interesting interpretation and I’d have to say I agree. That “sweet” feeling you describe to me feels like nothing, to the point where it doesn’t even feel like I hit the ball. Just feels like swinging through air, which (to me) isn’t satisfying. So I guess I would say I’m a fan of SOME vibration, but like a low frequency/dense vibration if that makes sense. You definitely still know when you hit the middle, but it’s a solid umph with weight behind it.

At $89 / club, you should really try the PXG 0211 ST irons.  They are available in lefty, quick delivery but only a small selection of stock shafts at that price.

I play them in right hand with MMT graphite shafts.  I have played several Mizuno blades and would describe the feel of the ST’s to be very similar to the MP-18.  Not harsh at all, but a powerful feel to them.

I also find them very easy to hit and as forgiving as some cavity back irons I’ve played.

Jbeam T801 irons are probably the firmest irons I have ever hit. To the point that all my other iron sets feel a little foamy

I play KBS $ tapers in them. Nippon's and DGS in everything else.

I would experiment with the ball and then grips to change feel at impact before swapping iron sets, but I recognize this is not nearly as much fun. 🙂

In my experience Titleist makes the firmest forged irons. My 718 CBs have more of a crisp click. Miura irons are dense with a softer thud, my experience with MB 001 and CB 57s. Miura irons feel amazing but definitely different from Titleist irons. Someone mentioned Wilson Staff V6 as an option. I cannot speak to the V6 irons but the newer Wilson staff CB irons that replaced them are some of the softest forged irons I have played. Not sure if anything will feel like a Titleist that isn’t a Titleist forged iron. Good luck in your search.

P7TW's are "firmest" by far, to the point I didn't like it. P7MB's and Wilson Staff are both a touch below the P7TW'S, but are also considerably more "forgiving" than the TWs(at least when I tested them). The Wilson Staffs ended up as my gamers, DG120 shafts for what it's worth. Better dispersion and better values than anything else I tried...including those hollow body things that just have zero feel.

I think the cobras were pretty close the the TWs for firmness as well.

I think a lot of that "feel" is where they have the mass placed

Miura or Ping i59 but feel/sound is so subjective.  Many describe Miura as sof but to me they feel dense.  Wonderfully dense and not super soft.  Ymmv

I agree with this. I have owned a few sets of Miura blades and CB’s. MB001, Baby Blades and cb501’s and they weren’t this forged softness. In fact I have said on here for years Miura is far from buttery softness.

I have had way more US irons that are softer.  Miura is crisp, dense and obviously center strikes feel amazing but not mushy.I find CB’s to be more mushy than blades. I have owned over 40+ sets or irons. Right now have 8 sets and trying to unload. Stay with MB’s for dense, crisp. Mizuno Mp68/69’s where very dense and crisp. MB2’s were very dense and crisp but SO easy to play for a blade.
Z945’s are buttery smooth as is anything from Fourteen.
I would also look at 680’s Titleist older models or Wilson’s. Just sold some FG Tour 100’s and those were very dense and crisp. Try those, or some TM TP MB’s.

Depends on your market and $$ budget.

- Something that continues to go long off the tee in the fairway
- Something that is a fairway finder when needed and long
- Something that high, consistent and helps with par 5’s
-  Something to help with long par3’s and short par 4’s

-  Something metal, lots of them and go the gaps I need
- Something metal, 2x of them and helps me 120y and in
- Putters - limited rotation because I cannot afford misses

Golf is what you make of it.  Play grateful and accepting. We are all lucky to have it.

Rather than expecting lets all try and appreciate instead.

Ping blueprint. Anything ping.

I agree with this. Just sold iBlades which I feel where the softest irons I ever played. But with Nippon 105’d which I fell in love with.

I have a set of S55’s/i25 combo and have CF X shafts in them and they are SO crisp. Which is why I think so many Ping players went to s55’s over iBlades. Even changing last year we saw a bunch go to s55’s which I believe is that more crisp feel and sound. The ball does not bounce like the iBlades and suspect Blueprints are the same.

the i200/210’s where soft but way to much bounce for me so I did not like them. Bounce as in the sole is super deep compared to the face.

I like a thin leading edge that I can dig under with. But try s55’s or Blueprints. I would LOVe to try i59’s!

Thank you for all the suggestions! Definitely added some on my radar. Yeah I guess firm isn’t really the adjective I would use (it’s just the adjective others have used to describe the feel I like). To me it’s more solid/dense/crisp.

A more solid feeling forged iron line would be Miura.  I've tested many JDM and OEM irons throughout the years and Miura is the most solid feeling IMO.

Looking for recommendations for forged irons to try, as I’ve realized that I prefer “firm” feeling over “soft”. To me, I describe firm as (heavy, solid, pure, dense) as opposed to soft which feels (light, hollow, mushy). Think T100 vs ZX7.

Preferably players CB or MB with a touch of forgiveness.

Miura or Titleist MB's

SUB70, do their demo program.   They use DT-4 steel, which is a type of stainless, yet not as hard as 303 or the like.

I tried the 639MB and 639CB and both were very firm, but really pleasing.

I also think cobra fits what you are looking for as well.  Not sure if you found anything yet it or not.  But the forged mb/cb have a wonderful feel.  Not too soft at all.

Also could go the JPX route.  921T or 921F.  I played the tour for a bit and they don’t have that “mp” softness. But look fantastic and are more forgiving than it should be in this category.  Great ball speed too!
