SO Well Said

the 770's are for possible long iron blending into a 760 set that no longer exists

other than that, no use I can see

fingers crossed, but fear a real miss tomorrow

we'll see.....

It's cute you're hoping for a surprise announcemnet of a new line of irons.

I think most will say they practically cannot be blended

far too different

maybe with 2 7-irons lol?

That’s what I was afraid of.  I’d just love a little forgiveness in the 5-6.  Maybe 5-6 P770 and 7-PW MC

Then if Tuesday, we can expect to see all the YouTube videos on these new irons.

we were originally told the 6th, but I have it as a Monday.  huh.  regardless, fitting days scheduled for them already and yes should be full media blitz to start the week

Press releases for equipment launches seem to always occur on a Tuesday (better day for media coverage than Monday generally speaking). Both TaylorMade and Callaway dropped the new lines on 1/4 this year, which was a Tuesday. Thus, 12/6 for the iron launch makes sense and probably 1/3/23 for the woods. No inside knowledge here...just an educated guess.

What are thoughts about a 5-7 P770 and 8-PW P7MC?

It can be done with some tweaking on both ends.   The 770's are a bit faster off the face than the MC so you'd probably want to drop a degree from the 8 iron and add a degree to the 7iron as a starting place.  Once you get that gap properly closed there you can build out the rest of the set.

Yea I was thinking .5-1* weak in the 5-7, then 1* strong in the 8-PW to start and make minor tweaks from there

Good place to start, it certainly is doable, just need to work on getting the gap betweeen 7 and 8 covered.   Once you have that the rest is simple.

I’ve seen the new heads. Underwhelmed beyond belief, the P770 is literally the P790 just slightly shorter heel to toe and a thinner topline. P7MC just looks like the old one with the pattern adjusted on the back, no different from address or the size/shape. For the people who said the 770 and MC don’t look too different in size, I suggest an optician for you. They are streets apart. Very annoyed my P760s have turned up absolutely nothing like the photos that were advertised, back to the drawing board. Will try and hit the new models later if possible but have absolutely zero interest in them whatsoever.

MC blend with MB

After doing some more research, just straight P770 for me.  I’ll tweak the lofts once I get them

if you just glance quickly, you'd think the new TM irons are last year's models.. very uninspiring cosmetic "update" to their lineup

Or, one could say, why mess with a good thing?  I like the subtle change over a complete overhaul every couple years.  Mizuno, Titleist, Srixon all progressively change their aesthetics.

I don’t know if I am out of touch but from what I’ve read and seen for at least the P7MB and MC they weren’t a good thing besides their aesthetics. The MB is played by almost no one on tour, many here commented on how they don’t like them and the original MC while more popular is critiqued for being as unforgiving or more unforgiving than the blade and everyone is crying for a P760 iron in the lineup but instead they juiced the p770 more and made an even bigger gap between the MC and 770 than before unless the MC has improved forgiveness tremendously. That along with the minor cosmetic change is just super underwhelming. The biggest change seems to be the MBs got all the mass behind the sweet spot now compared to towards the toe like the previous one which helped forgiveness.

Lol what did you expect? TM literally calls the 770 the little brother to the 790.

Zero interest but will hit them anyway? Interesting

I feel like there is a severe lack of clubs in the market that fit what the MC are.  I am all for them remaining relatively untouched.  But, I can understand how someone would want something between that and the P770.

So no new 790’s this year? Are they discontinuing it?

I think they alternate, so new 790s I'm the next wave of clubs.

They look nice, but aesthetically the MBs and the MCs don't quite gel together with my eyes, the MCs go nicely with the 770s. I guess it's the notch and the polished section.

MC blend with MB

That's been my thought since they went this route.  The 790/770 are designed for a different guy from the MC/MB.  Up until jumping into the 770 world I would have been a MC player and would probably only have a 4iron from the 770 line in the bag.  If I practiced enough to be in the MC's, I wouldn't see a scenario where I"d be trying to blend a set somewhere in the middle.  While they can be blended with some work, I don't think it's ideal.  I don't think this is an issue exclusive to TM.  Even with Titliest (who probably have the biggest coverage) I wouldn't want to be blending any of the T series into their CB/MB series.  Having two different feels between the set wouldn't work for me.

I’m regards to ppl hoping for a 760, it was never in the cards imo. That category seems to cater to a small portion of the customer base and is already quite saturated from a competitor standpoint. I think this is less a miss and more the result of a conscious decision in target demographics.
