He played in one of his own barstool classic tournaments and shot a 74 with a 34 on the front.  It’s a tournament setting and every shot is on camera. 
 

I have no idea if he is actually a 4 or if that is a slight vanity handicap but the amount of hate he gets for being an “awful” golfer is ridiculous and the comment above that there is no way he could break 90 is silly.

Trent did a session with Tillery and was able to break 100 shortly after, so are they terrible? maybe, but at least they are using their opportunities wisely.

I had never looked into Barstool, just heard about them before. But after reading about Portnoy, he sounds really sleazy, and I want nothing to do with their content. Sounds like the other guys are decent human beings though.

Riggs and Lurch are probably both actual 4 handicaps.  You just need 8 good scores out of 20.   I am a fan of both Homa and Kisner and watched their videos with the Foreplay guys. Riggs has been a good putter in those and a pretty good chipper, and as long as you can hit some decent shots with that short game four is easily attainable.  Lurch is a good ball striker and a horrible putter, two completely different ways to get to a 4 handicap.  Always playing different courses cannot be underestimated as to its effects on your handicap, especially in the different elevations and climates.  Playing different courses where you live is not the same.

 

I am not a big fan of ForePlay, but I don't hate them either.  The women's NCAA thing they did was really cool and glad someone stepped up for them.  As far as a podcast group though, I prefer the No Laying Up guys, in general better golfers with what I believe is better content.  I ran into a couple of them at the KPMG PGA last year in Atlanta and they were all pretty cool.

I’ll give you that, No Laying Up does have the best content, in my opinion.

I think the Stealth irons are a good choice for Trent, but he has no business bagging that "4" iron with its like 18.5° loft.  He needs another hybrid in that slot.  Otherwise, he has the most sensible bag out of the entire group of guys.

Barstool is terrible in their "Golf Dept.".  Philanthropy, excellent.  The way they run golf events, and do "golf stuff"..   terrible.

I think because he isn't a good golfer and that may be relatable in regards to a bag setup to newer golfers, people who aren't as good as many of the "scratch guys" on this board. He is kind of like a d list celebrity, in a way (or a has some nitch notoriety). Same as showing off some of the bags in a Pro Am like the ATT.  I don't watch a lot of their stuff on youtube (did watch his quest to break 100), but the stuff I have seen this guy is a pretty (actually overly) nice guy.  He is not good at golf by any stretch but he loves it.

I think you are wrong in the nobody ("NEVER") is going to buy their stuff. Taylormade has picked them up believing that they will help sell clubs, and judging from the number of Foreplay Headcovers I see at our golf course on a daily basis I thin they have sway in purchases, especially the demographic that foreplay and barstool targets, and I believe TM thinks that golfers who are not that good relate very well with them, thus driving purchases of similar clubs. Off the rack sales are huge for manufacturers.  I am not in that demographic but I coach many who are and I can tell you categorically that they have some sort of impact, not close to say a tour pro, but an impact yes.

Oh, I know.  Because they're "Ambassadors".  But they're not playing tour-only stuff.  They shoot 95.  Even if everything is fitted and adjusted to their needs...  that's the least of their problems.

Honestly man, I look at people's clubs whenever I'm on the range or at the course. So there are people who like to see what clubs people are playing. Next time just keep scrolling and get off the soapbox....

mention playing with a match with a friend and having a first tee breakfast ball, you'll get immediate responses saying that's not golf and is just hitting a ball in a hole but not golf.

 

Of course there was the 4 HC male can beat a LPGA pro thread....

 

As for Trent and the Barstool good guys, good on them on getting the connections  and money from their job/managers to do what they do.
