Had an indoor fitting for TSR2 yesterday numbers look promising 😃 (Coming from TSi3)

 

I am only around swing speed between 104 ~ 106, but got fitted into Tensei 1K Black 6X or even Ventus Black 6X (never used X flex before).

Will these numbers be sufficient enough for me to use X flex instead of S flex? (I do pull or hook time to time using Ventus Blue 6S)

 

Would love to hear the feedback from experts 😃

Do you have numbers from a stiff flex for comparison?  Looking at the ballspeed and spin the X may be borderline too stiff, but the X may be helping keep the high launch down.  So the combo could work- but what are you sacrificing or gaining?

Wow, reading these numbers, it's like looking in a mirror.

 

I got fitted 3 years ago at TXG by Ian in Toronto. It was on Quad and I was swinging 108-110 and we settled on what I am still gaming, Ping G410 Plus, Diamana DF 60 Stiff. I tried X flex but we agreed with my smooth tempo/transition and the extra distance/ball speed (somehow was touching 160+ on a few) we would stay with a stiffer tipped stiff flex.

 

I had gone through a 2 month Swing Speed training session last off season and picked up a MPH or 2 so I bought a softer tipped X flex, settling on a Ventus Red 6x. I have gamed that all year and my misses are so much less severe. I would think I am losing some distance, but a tradeoff I am willing to make.

 

Yesterday, I went to my local Dick's (yes, it still has a robust golf section, no GG in sight around here) and hit TSr2 and TSr3 on their GC2. It wasn't a proper fit, just me using what they had out, and my best numbers were TSr2 8* with HZRDUS Black 4g 60 S (obviously similar profile to the Diamana DF).

 

I tried the Tensei 1k Black 6x and that thing felt like rebar to me. Unreal stiff and not smooth AT ALL. Unfortunately, I wasnt able to try my Ventus Red 6x with the TSr2 but I think that combo will be great for me in the future.

Yes, with Ventus Blue 6S.

 

Swing Speed: 105mph

Backspin: 2100RPM

Launch Angle: 15.7 degrees

Efficiency: 1.46

Carry: 272 yards

Angle of Attack: 6.3 degree up

 

I was also thinking to tip a little to make it as between S flex and X flex, but wasn't sure how much tipping players usually do it.

Ventus Blue 6s vs Tensei 1k Black 6x are very different shafts and flexes, obviously...I think its more up to feel, since the numbers are so similar. I would figure you would get almost all knuckle balls from the 1k Black and you would hate the feel, like I did.

 

Your numbers are optimized for your swing speed, so there's that too. Good stuff.

They will be available for purchase in stores on Friday. I will likely end up just swapping the TSR head onto my current gamer shaft (Ventus Black 7X), so I may just pick one up in store the day they drop rather than wait 2-3 weeks from Titleist. I haven't had a chance to see one in person or hit one yet as my pro shop doesn't have fitting heads yet. If I like the look at address when I lay it down in DSG, it'll make it's way to the register with me.

Can anyone comment on sound differences between TSR and TSi? I think Titleist made strides going from TS to TSi, but I would still like a more dampened sound.

you should look into the ventus TR line, might be perfect for you

I thought the tsi3 and tsr3 sounded very similar, but the tsr2 sounds a little more muted vs the tsi2. Still had a great sound/feel, but just slightly different from before. The ball felt like it stayed on the face forever, it's awesome.

I think the tsr3 is slightly more muted than the tsi3. I hit balls with the tsr and can barely tell if hit it… look up and ball is flying nicely. 
 

Some of the sound and feel will be influenced by shaft: where you make contact on the face with different shafts.

Great vid from the TXG boys on the TSR 2 vs TSR3 fairway woods, sounds very much presonal preference & specific swing based on which model to choose, performance seemed very similar for Ian.

You were fitted into 1k black 65x and/or Ventus black 6x ? Were numbers similar on both?

Just had my fitting at a Titleist event. Went in with an open mind and looking to see if I could find some improvements over my SIM2 Max Smoke Green combo.

 

First up was the TSR2 which I wasn’t keen on the head shape…a definite improvement over TSi but still too long front to back, ball speeds and carry were similar to my SIM2.

 

Next up was TSR3 which we tried with a few shafts, HZRDUS felt a bit light and I was turning it over a bit easy, also tried a Graphite design which felt great and gave me good numbers but I couldn’t justify an extra £200 over the stock cost. However, with the Tensei 1K black it came alive, hitting constant baby cuts with a 3mph ball speed increase, slight distance increase and amazing feel but most importantly no left shots and very consistent dispersion!!

 

Ordered a 9’ TSR3 with 1K black…can’t wait!!

Now I refuse to watch it out of principle haha.  But...as you are aware I found the Ping line to be slow compared to others.  So, I think it's safe to assume that the TSR won hands down lol.

I was fitted into 1K black which gave me a slight edge on flight and spin number.

(15 flight and 1800 spin)

 

I could use both but 1k felt a bit easier to swing.

Already in my local fitters/driving range here in the UK they put a psot up on it earlier today showing them on racks, going to head down 2mos after work and have a look at them in person.

 

Side note they also showed off the new Mizuno 923 heads were in for fittings.

You and I and everyone else in the world realize that about PING except for one particular member here who claims otherwise. I know there can be an outier for differetn people but to claim PING is faster than Titleist (the last two models) is funny.
