I am a 10, and can say unequivocally that these are the best i series PING forgiveness wise since the i5 and i25. I would argue a solid ball striker into the mid to high teens can handle these as well (right shaft of course). They are simply that versatile, and the wedges, esp the U wedge are other worldly good!

Would like to get some feedback on how these compare to Titleist T200s in terms of forgiveness.  I really like the T200s, but when I have an off ball striking day would like a little more help.  Thanks in advance for your thoughts?

I don't think you will get the same distance as the 200's, and nor do I vs my P790's and G400's, but the spin, launch and dispersion is what makes the i230 a highly forgiving players shape iron. But then look at the loft. P790 30.5, i230 33. I also read that the i230 is very fade bias, but I do not see that even in Orange Dot, but then again, my miss is a pull, so perhaps thats why, and is a blessing for my swing. I like you with the 200's, really like my P790's (both players distance), but so far, shaft for shaft (PX LZ 5.5 SS1X), the PING launches higher and spins more, which for me is a good thing. I like height in my irons (not ballooning) and the dispersion I get (albeit perhaps a 5 yard give up in the longer to mid irons, not so much in the short/wedges).

As an 11HDCP I was fitted yesterday and placed an order. I am high spin coming from the fact I was coming into the ball at -6 with a 7 iron. I don't swing fast 84MPH on average and ended up in PX LS 6.5. We shallowed my swing and for some reason this much stiffer shaft proved more distance and perfect 7 iron spin numbers along with an average smash factor of 1.35 everything else was 1.22 on average. We went through 20 different shafts and in the end "blind tested" the last couple to be sure. with this set up I was no longer missing left. Everything was a straight shot or slight fade. I could still draw it when I wanted to but my natural miss was out of the equation. I hope they perform like this on course!

I ordered the set UW for kicks. Was going to ahead and order a specialty wedge. Sounds like I should give the set UW a real shot before pulling the trigger on that.

This is interesting.  I am looking at ordering a similar setup.  We have similar numbers.  Can I ask what spin you were getting with the 7i w/ Project x LS? Also what was your peak height if you know it?

Sure my spin with the 6.5 was down to 7000-7300. With the 6.0 I was getting 7600+ depending on good shot or not. Peak height with the 6.5 85+ I don't remember the 6.0. Decent angle was averaging about 48-51 again depending on strike.

The U is insane.. I’ve never played a set wedge in my life. I’m a + and cruise around 125chs on the course. I can control my distance with that U as well as any specialty wedge and as much as I’d like to not admit it, every now and again I mishit my wedges. It’s nice to have the extra help when I need it. I am steep so not sure whether shallow guys would jive with it as much

I pulled the trigger today and ordered the 4-U. After a 2+ hour in depth fitting I was shocked to be fit into an off the shelf combination, black dot, standard loft and DG 120 X100s.

For those that have received your set how is the gapping? My current set, ZX7s TI DG X100, have even 4* gaps. The pings seem to have a unique loft progression.

A lot of these are hitting the bst. Short and not forgiving enough?

They are fantastic irons, but if my ball striking isn't there, they end up short (for me).  I may have been better off getting power specs.  I just ordered a set of Gen 3 0311Ps due to the price and hoping they are a little more forgiving for where my game is at right now.  The i230s are one beatiful iron though, if I start playing better after this winter layoff, I could see going right back to them.

I'll speak for my experience with them. Loved everything about the i230--beautiful, minimal offset to my eye, more forgiveness than my T100-S, and literally perfect in almost every way except distance. Even at power specs (so same lofts as T100-S), they were about 7yds shorter on average even after flushing one. They feel phenomenal, but I guess for my swing speed, they're just not what I needed.

I know I've picked up about 10-13m per club. Some of that is down to lofts, but not all of it.

Anyone seeing any durability issues with the back badging on the irons? Do they pick up some bag clatter? Was looking at some WITB and I did notice some markings on the badge area. This was an issue with the T200 the thin aluminum plate was getting marked up pretty quickly.
Mine are still in my basement waiting for spring.

Tools not jewels.  If your worried about it use head covers.

Haha There will be no iron covers in my bag! I get the tools not jewels thing. I still keep my tools nice and clean. Just asking around if the back plate was getting marked up super easy.

I’m a specialty wedge guy for PW down but IMO nobody does a gap wedge better than ping, especially in the i series. It is extremely versatile even hitting little 50 yarders to back pins, green side chips, awkward 30 yard + bunker shots etc.

Here.

The U wedge was good enough to beat out my Glide 4.0 and I really like that wedge.

The U is definitively better (for me anyways) in every way except maybe looks and it ain't bad in that department either.

I literally had a Vokey 50* in my cart in full anticipation of not liking the set gw. My irons arrived Friday and first thing, I pulled the set gap wedge and headed to the basement hitting net. It literally looks like a specialty wedge out of the box. Not clunky. Face can be opened. Hit some chips and full shots. Granted this was into a net. But it checked all the boxes so far. Vokey purchase put on hold.

My friend I play with regularly has also picked up at least a club length as well.  Higher ball flight and perhaps lower spin.
