Wilson Staff Dynapwr and Dynapwr Carbon Drivers spotted on USGA Conforming List

It's not a new name... they used that name on their irons back as far as the late 50's early 60's. I think it was dyna-powered at first, then transitioned to be dynapower. I like Wilson, so I think the throwback reference is pretty cool.

And to use Stealth as an example of a good name for a driver with a red face, that's just wild.. it's anything but stealth.

How about something more current? Also I will take that name and performance over a Kmart brand like Wilson.

What a weird thing to hate on.  Especially when Wilson has proven time and time again that their higher end products keep up with any brand on the market.  I would bet a lot of money that this driver does, too.

As far as performance, price, availability - Wilson competes with any brand in the entire industry.

Actually Cobra was a subsidiary of Titleist back in the 80s.  They got on the radar when Greg Norman and Ian Baker Finch used them.  Then Titleist sold them to Puma.

Acushnet's purchase of Cobra was later than that, at the end of the 1990s.

In the '80s Cobra was still a relatively small outfit run by Tom Crow. Hardly anyone had heard of them until Norman bought in to the company after opting not to re-sign with Spalding at the start of the 1990s.

Absolutely....people in the industry know this, to be sure.

It’s a shame Wilson gets the hate it does. Their top end clubs and balls perform as good or better than anything on the market. What I find very interesting is the opinion of the Wilson brand is much higher in Europe and other areas than here. The golf snobs may not like Wilson, but performance has never been an issue.

I think it's like my experience with Alfa Romeo. I figured they were a luxury brand because, in the US, whenever I saw one it was luxurious, because the only people to import them import nice ones. I went to Europe and Alfa has a whole bunch of cars ranging from junky honda civic equivalent to top of the line.

So I think with Wilson in Europe they just don't have as much experience with the Prostaff stuff just because they have their own junk brands and the people who go out of their way to get Wilson get the good stuff. Wilson knows this and sells the good stuff. The cycle is complete.

Wilson makes gorgeous irons and they perform as well as any other brand. Why can’t the person that designs their irons also design their woods? IMO the design of Wilson woods detracts from the brand they have built up in their irons.

Just make a timeless, classically designed wood like Titleist or Mizuno. Not everyone will buy it but it’ll  get more looks.

Embargo Date Jan 17, Release March 1. Drivers, woods, hybrids, and irons all attributed to the Dynapwr name, and in both mens and womens.  Given that last fact, makes me wonder if this is the D-series replacement line.  Carbon driver flagged as men only, Ti version as both mens and womens.

Most likely by the sounds of it and d series been on sale for a while

Dumb question what does embargo date mean?

I think it's a chicken/egg thing, if this was shown without the logos folks would say how clean it looks if they thought it was a bigger OEMs model. Trouble is Wilson have diluted their name so much with cheap products (which sell well) that it's tough to get anything right apart from a few sets of players' irons. Once they have to add tech they just don't have the looks or R&D budgets or know they can't sell at the top end if they could spend.

Yes, it would be neat if they just made Staff custom irons (remember when MacGregor offered things like different toe options and top line thickness options? that didn't last too long), but they'd have too offset that with a load of full sets in bricks and mortar stores, which would probably put off those looking for some serious gamers. They're damned either way.

Back in the day up until the mid 80s or so Wilson Spalding and Macgregor all had extensive custom departments

Driver--- Callaway Big Bertha Alpha--- Speeder 565 R flex

3W-- Callaway RAZR-- Speeder 565 R Flex

7W --- TM V Steel UST Pro Force 65 R flex

9W--- TM V Steel Stock V Steel R flex shaft

I wonder if Wilson would ever consider using the Demarini name on its woods line. Keep the irons, wedges, putters and ball as Wilson staff but baseball and softball players know the Demarini name means quality. Just a thought.

I like the idea of using Demarini in a collaboration kind of way. It shows that the Wilson brand understands metal technology.  Considering they didn't mention that Clay Long was involved with the new putters I doubt they will get around to it. They don't seem to thrive in the marketing department. If I was Wilson, who makes every kind of ball out there my tag line would be... Wilson, We've got balls!!!!
