CB looks great...modern take on the Z745 or J40 CB even down to shape and topline.

Probably daily I wish that the cavities were available up to a 6 iron. 
 

I appreciate that the iron is targeted at an elite player, and that it’s easier to perfectly blend them at a specific iron, but I’d take a less-perfect blend if I could have a couple more of the cavity back.

Absolutely.  I ordered 7-PW in the 0317ST and 5 and 6 iron in the 0311T.

My 317ST 5 - GW BLACK on a Fedex truck will be here Sat/Mon.  With the 60 day trial I will test against my Tiger irons and 311ST for comparison.  No better...back they go via DD.

Had a delay as the order went in as Chrome instead of Black...extra week to change.

I have been gaming 5-7 0311 T and 8-P 0317 ST for a few weeks now and they are a great combo set. Blend together well, shape and finish are pretty darn close.

From address difficult to see much difference...hosel length is exactly the same.

 

0311 on right

 

Sole width very similar...toe width slightly wider in 0311.

Definitely more bounce in 0317...difficult to photograph.

Playing the 0311st g4 now, what would the extra bounce do to turf interaction on the 0317s?

I have no complaints about my Gen 4 0311T, but I need the black 0317s anyway.

Depending upon the turf conditions...if firm the extra bounce may cause the clubhead to bounce more off the turf....If a bit softer then less digging into the turf.

If you have a steep angle of attack on the downswing could be beneficial to avoid digging.

 

But the sole widths on these heads are not very wide so it is less problematic than say the XP wider sole widths.  Like opening the face on a sand wedge so it bounces thru the sand rather than digs.  And the sand wedge will normally have more bounce to facilitate that action as well as a wider sole width.

They pair up nicely for a combo set, I have been gaming 5-7 T and 8-P ST for a month now. The Gen5 T are definitely more forgiving and let you get away with bad swings far better. You will see more of a distance loss when you miss the center on the 0317 ST compared to the 0311 T. If I miss out of the toe my 0311 T my ball will usually still hit the front of the green or fringe. With the 0317 ST that same miss will probably come up about 3 yards shorter and be in the rough. The feel of the 0317 are very soft and solid, pairing up well.

Can anyone provide a cogent and detailed answer as to why PXG has gone away from all of the weighting screws around the perimeter of their clubs?

 

When the irons first came out, wasn't this part of their big "technological revolution?" If so, why have they progressively abandoned it over successive generations of irons?

 

To add to this, I find it rather telling that these more "conventional" looking designs seem more acceptable to a wider range of consumers - at least from a casual perusal of PXG iron threads here on WRX.

 

We've seen "revolutionary" technology come and go. Callaway eventually started putting traditional hosels on their drivers. I guess S2H2 wasn't the end all be all. Bubble shafts? Didn't catch on.

 

Golf has a way of dragging everyone back to the mean. Well, except for Jack Hamm, I suppose.

My guess is that this new release is just simply designed for a different purpose?  More workability?  Their current Gen 5 irons have screws and tungsten weights on the perimeter.  Personally, I love the look of the new CB portion of this release more than the screws in their others.  But, I am having a lot of success with my 0311T Gen 3 irons too.  So, the screws don't really bother me.  I guess I look at them as two completely different designs for two different purposes.

The 0317ST irons are going back to PXG via DD....many thanks to DD for allowing them to be returned under PXG's 60 day return policy.

 

Hit alot of range balls with the PW and 8 iron in the 0317ST, 0311ST and P7TW.

The 0317 has much the same feedback as the 0311, solid blade but the TW simply has that extra solid dense feel by comparison.  May be the type of carbon steel being 1025 vs 8620.

Certainly nothing wrong with the PXG blades, and I have had several sets in addition to trying the new 0317.  Nice shape, feel, sound.

Man those in black look awesome! I am completely in love with my Gen 4T and promised not to be a ho but maybe I better hit the strip for club money. Even worse the Orlando PXG store is very near to my work office  so a quick lunch visit isn’t out of the question. Whyyyy
