FWIW, when I was fit into the tour shaft at Ping they told me the same thing, and was the reason standard build length with it was less than with the Alta.   At least that was the case for G30/G400LST

The Tensei Orange raw AV is counter balanced and also built to 45.25” which is shorter than the Alta build.  Probably just all varying levels of counter balancing.

Possibly the reason for the shorter shafts.  I just assumed the shorter stock lengths with aftermarket and Tour shafts was because players who typically play these shafts tend to  steer towards shorter driver lengths.

So I was able to hit a 10.5 LST with Tour Black 65x. The bay was much bigger so the sound was pretty good. Thing feels like a heavy meaty hit to it. More of a low pitch thwack. The black shaft felt great. Don’t quote me as my feels are not the best, it seemed to me to be a softer handle stiff everywhere else shaft. Did not feel boardy to me or overly stiff or tight. Just a nice stable shaft. Maybe I’m getting the profile completely wrong. I enjoyed hitting it, though.

The "old" Tour 65 was a mid spin & mid/low launch akin the Elements Chrome which is it's genetics underneath.

From my understanding, the Black is suppose to be low/low.

If they would have made the LST crown look like that fairway wood crown...the driver would be much more popular.  At least on this site.

Meh. There's so much going on up on that crown I don't think it matters much. I think it looks sweet. If Megatron played golf, he'd use the LST.

The tour 65 had Elements Chrome characteristics because they were designed by and built by UST. Starting with the 430 line, Ping has contracted another prominent shaft company to design and put together their shafts.

Anyone know anything about the hybrids?  Look pretty great to me...but not sure if I should just stick with G425 hybs or even earlier versions.

I’ve just bought a set of G425 hybrids. Although it’s hard to get any decent golf in just now, these are the worst hybrids I’ve hit. I expected to reshaft anyway but I’m wondering whether to bother ad they appear, so far, to be way inferior to the old Adams XD Ti with Matrix Altus shafts which have always been my choice.

I just bought a 425 hybrid on sale. Awesome hybrid. The new 430 hybrid looks a tiny bit bigger and more rounded at address. There is a bit more going on on the crown. I didn’t hit it, but I think the new one is going to expensive and the 425 model does exactly what I want it to do with a cheaper price and cleaner look. 430 looks pretty nice, though.

ill second this. I was going to wait for the new hybrids in the spring especially titleist but a few guys i play with at my local course all bought 425 hybrids when they went on sale, so I decided to give it a try and it's a fantastic hybrid, especially for the price, the closer we get to the release the quicker all 425 stuff will fly off the shelves at the discount. I used to work at a local golf store and I've never seen any other brand fly off shelves like PING when its current line gets discounted for a new release (410 to 425). I anticipate it'll be like that this winter as well.

I find it difficult to say as our courses are soaking wet but all the hybrids I’ve used prior to these were easy to hit so I’d not really analysed the reasons.

But I looked the other day and these older models look to have longer and lighter shafts. So I’ll soft step once Into one of the G425’s  using a spare Altus shaft 1” longer and see what happens. I’ll flatten the lie to compensate and, as the swingweights are D0, I should get a well-balanced result.

Just awaiting some sleeve/ tips to build the test club. Cheers

Thanks

Please don't quote me on this, and perhaps someone can corroborate, but I thought I read Ping hired a designer from Aldila specifically to work on the new Tour shaft for the G430 line.

An apology is due, had a serious migraine last night and completely forgot I had gone part way to sort out these G425 hybrid clubs. Bearing in mind I’m hardly getting 2 lots of c 9 holes per week and on a drenched and muddy course.

Off a tee-peg they are fine. So I looked for Web reviews. I found one guy complaining about sole-and-turf reaction. This acted as a catalyst so I placed a number of different hybrid heads face-down on paper and drew the sole-plate radii.

I drew out that of my favourite 7 wood too, an old R11 Ti. This had the tightest radius and the G425 the least. But it likely explains why I use my 7 W on courses with narrow fairways and lush rough. The radius on the g425H looks flatter to the eye than it is when drawn on paper.

We’ve had depressed fairway growth all summer over here due to drought and soaked courses in autumn, thus the lies are terrible. When I look at my old Snake Eye 2 hybrids, their radii is close to my 7W perhaps explaining my confidence in them so I hit very much down, relying on the loft.

I guess the MSG, if any, for you, is to look at the sole radius on your current favourite hybrid and go with a new club to suit that.  Good luck.

ps if I can find my drawing I’ll pm you if you like. I suspect these Pings will not stand comparison with the old Adams XD ti hybrids I’ve just bought to get a hold of some Altus shafts cheaply.

This is your semi annual reminder of how these new releases all work-

1)- pictures leaked “its hideous, ill pass”

2)- people start hitting them and claiming huge gains

3)- sells like hotcakes even though its no better (or worse) than last years model or other oems.

In all seriousness though, people really decide not to buy something because of some tiny lime/volt accents on the bottom of the club….really? But dont mind an obnoxious red face? Hmm.

I second the obnoxious red face motion.
