I thought I had my old combo OG set in my basement but forgot I left it at my friend’s shop. I did take pictures of my OG ZX7 set for folks to compare against my MKII combo set. Reminder I got ZX4 4 iron, ZX5 5-6 irons, and ZX7 7-pw.

MKII on the right side of the picture and OG ZX7 on the left.

I’ll see if I have time to get some ZX5 comparisons for folks.

New zx7 look great. I’m starting with all 5s but May go combo set like I had in the original zx5/7

My first set was all OG ZX7. And ball flight on 4-6 was low. Switched to the OG ZX5 and that took care of it. I was able to hit the ZX5 20 feet higher and the dispersion was better with no loss in distance. So I’ve stayed that way ever since until MKII and I am doing the same except I switched to ZX4 4 iron

My set was OG zx5 4-6 zx7 7-pw. Figured the zx5 mkii were shrunk down but short irons still too much beef for my liking

Hit the ZX4 & ZX5 MKII sets yesterday. The new ZX5 set performed no different than my 565 set which shocked me. However, the ZX4 set was significantly longer. I would imagine this is due to the stronger lofts.    I had all intentions of upgrading this year, not sure I can justify it.  I do love the looks of them.

I will add that the ZX4 MKII shape seemed to be more in like with last years ZX5 and this years ZX5 MKII to me looked a lot like the ZX7 from last year.  Not saying that they were less forgiving but they definitely didn’t make me feel as warm and fuzzy that a poor strike would be forgiving.

I agree.  Appearance wise the new ZX7 looks more demanding than the original.  Not sure if it plays that way though

Finally got to hit my new set a little bit today, I ordered ZX5 3 and 5 irons, and ZX7 6-PW.  Lofts are adjusted to play 4* between clubs off of the 46* PW.  My previous set was ZX5s 4-AW also bent weak to play off a 46* PW, but with only 3* between 4 and 5 irons.

I only hit 7 and 9 iron today during my practice session but both feel phenomenal.  I picked up 4 yards of carry over my previous set, along with about 6 feet extra peak height from 90 to 96 feet.  I'd like to get that to be over 100 feet on average, which may come as I work on my face not being so closed to my path.

I took delivery of my ZX7’s on Saturday and just got around to checking them out. I ordered them at +1/4” and they were closer to +1/2” and swing weight was around D6. I spent an hour or so pulling the grips and cutting them down to +1/4” and will regrip tomorrow.

I remember reading a post about Srixon irons playing on the longer side so no big deal. Hope to put them in play this week or weekend.

I went for iron fitting a couple weeks ago, was brand agnostic, but looking for something to replace my many year old Ping G irons. I hit those pretty well, but felt ready to move into something that perhaps looks a little nicer as a reward for getting myself to single digit handicap (was a 18 when I got them years ago, currently at my all time low of an 8.7). Hit some Pings, Callaways, Mizunos, Taylormade and Srixons. My head really wanted to walk out with some Mizunos, but my heart absolutely fell in love with the Srixons by like the second swing. Had never hit a Srixon iron before. Hit both the ZX4 and ZX5 MkII (my ego is in check enough to know the ZX7s are not right for me). First of all, does anybody else think the ZX4 MkII looks better than the ZX5? The badge on the ZX5 looked to me a little like an add on sticker that was just trying to make it look like the zx7. I know it’s not that, but that is the impression it left me. And, for me, I couldn’t tell difference in feel between the two really, the zx4 went further, spin numbers were relatively close, and dispersion was better with the 4 than the 5 for me. So, I went with full set of zx4 mkii (5 thru gap wedge) and couldn’t be more excited. Have since seen the zx4 originals, and wow what a difference in looks. I never would have bought those to replace my Ping Gs, regardless in performance. The original zx4 looked obese compared to the mkii. Really impressed with the makeover of zx4, and  zx5 is also a great club I felt I easily could play if the zx4 didn’t exist (or still hadn’t gone on it’s diet yet).

Currently play z585 irons, just curious, if anyone has played these, and had a chance to compare them to the zx5 mkii or the zx4mkii. Also, anyone hitting the zx4 noticing any issues with turf interaction due to the wider soles? Thanks!

I play the 565 set and can’t justify ditching them for the MKII set.  I found the ZX5 MKII irons to sound almost clicky or high pitched sounding. They didn’t feel forged like the 565 set.

has anyone hit both the previous gen zx5 and zx5 mkii? is there a big enough difference to get a brand new set of previous gen zx5 or worth getting the mkii? coming from mizuno irons. thanks!

I just replaced my mixed set of zx7/5 with the Mk 2 equivalent. Mk2 feels just as nice as previous version and zx5 mk2 blends a little better in regards to toe length and length of blade with my zx7 mk2, but other than that they feel similar (ZX5 mk 2 might be slightly less clicky than original zx5). But, I am fortunate to get mine free, otherwise I probably wouldn't of upgraded to the new ones. Don't get me wrong, they are beautiful, but if you have the original zx you won't see a large performance change to justify $1200 IMO.

I was finally able to get the new ZX7's to the range this afternoon. They feel exceptional when hit out of the middle. Can't give much of a performance review as our range uses limited flight balls but I will check back in after I get them out on the course.

I might have gotten 2-3 yards more out of the new one. I’d play either set, but If I got a great deal on the og ZX5 that was $500 less than the new one, I would not hesitate. The changes in that model are very incremental and that’s because it already was a winner.

I was holding out for the new MkII but the price (at least in Europe) has been hiked significantly over the OG.  My local shop had the OGs on offer at €400 less than the new ones coming in next month.  After trying out the OG ZX5, they felt so good I decided to buy them without even waiting to try the MkII.  I didn't want to miss out on the deal, and can't imagine the difference is worth €400 - at least to me

The sole width reduction in the new ZX5 MK2 is about 1 mm. It’s just a little thinner. The consensus at the shop I went to is the new one is slightly clickier than the original. Not a major difference but that is what I heard too. We had them both on hand, hitting them back to back. They both feel really good. Performance is the same pretty much, I might have gotten 2-3 yards more out of the new one. I’d play either set, but If I got a great deal on the og ZX5 that was $500 less than the new one, I would not hesitate. The changes in that model are very incremental and that’s because it already was a winner. Felt like I could do everything with them.

The ZX4 tested great, a big step up visually from the original. Great looking club. Feel is outstanding. These hollow heads are getting better and better. For my money, the feel of the ZX4, Cobra Forged Tec (2022) and Mizuno 225 stand above the rest in terms of having a satisfying impact. (The ZX4 is largest of those three.) I had no issues with the ZX4 soles, they’re not much wider than the ZX5 and the v-sole and trailing edge relief limits how much of that sole hits the ground — if you have proper forward shaft lean. If not, you might feel the v-sole because it is helping you by not digging if you’re hitting behind the ball. The ZX4 is comparable overall to the JPX 923 standard Hot Metal. If I was buying a full set of game improver irons, it would be difficult to pass up the ZX4.

Thank you very much for the info. appreciate it. The zx4 really has me curious!

I played the 565s before the ZX5s.  While I love the look of the ZX5s, they do not feel as good as the 565s.  And they were a bit clicky comparison, not bad...but a noticeable difference.  Sounds like the MKii are continuing in the same direction. Great performing clubs...but moving away from the 545/565 feel.

For those who have gone combo set. Where do you split it, what lofts are you doing ? Are people doing like zx4 in 4 iron or even the utlity iron in 4 iron, then zx5 in 5-6 and rest in zx7 ?

Srixons site shows recommended splits.

I think that the ZX4 4-5 bent 1* weak would work with ZX5 6-P.  That would match the ZX5 stock lofts across all clubs.

Well said. I also play the Ping G iron and have been looking for something new. Better would be nice too. I absolutely love Ping, but nothing after the G feels like a step up. The 430 seems like a step back. The original ZX4's almost had me, but they looked like puddle of diarrhea, no thanks. The mkII's are such a better package, I am so tempted and I think you made the right call.

I am down to ZX4 mkII, and a couple of other GI/players irons. Or stick with the G's that I know and love. the difference will be minuscule.

Nice setup. Send an update on how this combo plays.

UPDATE:

Took the 4,7 and PW to the simulator today.

ZX4 4i was a rocket. As you can see from the picture, these clubs are hot. Club looks way cleaner than mki version.

ZX5 7i - felt very similar to the current years version. I couldnt tell much difference in feel and/or performance.

Zx7 PW felt like butter. Very consistent and high launch with plenty of spin.

i did try a zx4 7i with a kbs c taper lite shaft (i currently game kbs tour 120s in other srixons) and the thing was launching. I know the loft is strong but i was hitting a 7i 205 consistently lol. Honestly perhaps a little too hot.  So far im digging the triple combo!

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
