What would be the most "forgiving" blade or blade-like iron?

Big Bri

Recommended Posts

I am playing 19' T100 irons but currently looking for my "last set" of irons I can grow old with.

Wouldn't mind a little forgiveness or help in long irons, but i want them to look simple and gorgeous like blades.

21' T100s for some reason arent eye appealing to me so i am waiting on the 23' release.

mizuno pro 223-221 combo set looks great so will try those when i get a chance.

are there any more i should consider? Older models are fine so please let me know.

There are plenty in the player’s distance category that fit the bill:
- Srixon ZX7 (they combo really nicely with the ZX5 in the long irons too)

- Cobra King Tour

- Cobra CB and MB combo (less forgiving)

- Taylormade P770 (or P790)

I personally have the Srixon’s and love them, but haven’t hit any of the above other than P790, and much preferred the Srixon.

I consider these pretty forgiving …. Old but forgiving for as intimidating as they look.  I’ve built a mixed set of blades from 4 iron down to pitch and love playing them.   VR Pro blades from 4 iron to 7 iron and 8 iron down are the pro combo blade head, look the same at address.

Wilson Staff Model and Srizon Z Forged, in part due to their large footprint for a blade.

Consensus on the forum is wilson staff blades… yup, I am taking the liberty to make this call

check out the Miura MC501 or 502….

lots of people will tell you ping blueprints as well,  it I think the i59 will offer more forgiveness and consistency. It’s like a tech packed blade.

Kirkland’s new iron looks like most of the others, wait for it.

But if your talking look at address instead of the look in the bag then Ping I230.

I have had the ie1 in the bag for a bit now and haven’t found enough wow that’s great in the newer I series to move me forward in line to the register.

PXG Gen 5 0311 hands down... T100 are not blades... I say if you are not 1 piece forged you are not a blade.

Miura KM-700?  Supposed to be a bit more of a forgiving blade style club.  If it's your "last set", why not?

Full Bag / Short set

- Taylormade Sim

5W (17.5), 7W (20.5), 9W (23.5) - Ping G425 Max

5H - Ping G425

6i-UW / 6i, 8i, PW - Ping i210

SW - Callaway PM Grind 54.14

LW - Callaway PM Grind 60.10

P - Bettinardi BB5 / SC Pro Platinum Laguna 2.5
Bag - Ping Hoofer Lite / Ping Moonlite (old one with vertical strap)

I hit 3 out of 4 P7MB 3 irons  yesterday (my club pro's new set, just unwrapped) without stinging my hands, so I would consider them super forgiving by WRX standards 🙂

Big Bri, really comes down to what you want to look at. Any blade like tech club is going to be a bit chunkier top line and wider sole. T100's are very thin relatively on the top side but you ruled it out. I have no issues with the P770s or P760s but they are chunkier top lines for sure, some can't stand to look at them.

The P7MC is very skinny, narrow sole, and a wee bit more forgiving than the MBs.

I picked up the Miura 1008 CBs because they are blade like from the top but not blades cause I like the help 😄

- not as big Bri

Based on your post I would say a nice combo set is in your future. (ZX5/ZX7, ZX7/Z-Forged, P770/P7MC, Mizuno Pro 223/221 like you suggested, etc.)

Here are my suggestions to try based on personal experience:

Blade:

  • Wilson Staff Model blades
  • Srixon Z-Forged (Used to game the 945's in a combo set. Loved them)

"Blade-like" (Kind of subjective. So I'll go with "Close enough to looking or performing like a blade." Fight me.)

  • Wilson Staff Model CB
  • Taylormade P770 and P7MC
  • Srixon ZX7

Seeing t100s mentioned a lot. What would everyone suggest be slightly more forgiving than those ?

Ping i59 and i230.

Apex TCB.

The i59 and TCB will be the closest. loom wise with more forgiveness and better feel.

i230 is a step bigger, but not by much. They will feel much better and offer exponentially higher levels of consistency and forgiveness than the t100

why do people say TCB is more forgiving than T100??

TCB is to Cally what 620CB is to Titleist, the X Forged or old 2019 Apex Pro (especially the Tour Dot versions) would be more along the T100 lines to me.

TCB would be a demanding set to keep on par with Apex MB IMO if you were never going to replace it until they literally fall to bits, but this is WRX after all, and OP may replace the "forever set" in 6 months lol.

For most forgiving blade I would put z forged and Wilson staff blade up there.  For “blade like” the new t100 are very close to a blade, but I know it’s not something that has not caught your eye.

Another one would be ping i59.  Beautiful little iron that feels good and is very consistent.  Ping’s tend to last a long time as well.

Another thing, are you looking for a blade/muscle back? Because saying "blade-like" has gotten you responses of clubs that, while have some visual resemblance of a blade, will perform nothing like an actual ones. My 2 suggestions are *relatively* forgiving for blades, but still are harder to hit than 97% of other irons on the market, which includes every non-blade listed here. The closest you'll get are forged single piece players CBs, anything farther than that is no longer in my eyes "blade like", especially if it's hollow or has foam.
