New Edel SMS Pro Irons

These look perfect at address! I would love to try their tri sole and see how it compares to the Srixon V sole. Nice to see that they were able to make the weighting work in more of a player's shape. I think these will do well.

I would think they would be similar.  The non-Pro version has a traditional sole, but it isn't wide like a game improvement iron.  Truthfully both versions of the SMS are for mid to lower handicap players.

The tri-sole on their T grind wedge works great. Versatile and smooth through the turf. These new irons look sweet and I assume can make a nice combo with the originals. Would like to see photos of them side by side.

I agree.  Couldn't find a comparison pic on the website.  Edel does have a presence on here, so maybe they will post one.

Got the email from Edel, and immediately wondered about a combo set with the 2 SMS options.

From what I have seen so far, these look pretty nice.  Haven't seen too many pics though.  The ones in the WRX article seem to be provided by Edel.  Really interested in seeing some in hand pics.

I've emailed them about different size weights for SW purposes. I'm thinking about some steelfiber in these and would like to dial in weight on the head instead of using tip weights. They said they will ask

their build team.  Anybody have the SMS hollow model and did this?

I was one of the testers on here with the non-Pro version.  They aren't really hollow.  They have the foam or polymer like others.  I went with Steelfibers as well.  Mine were built at D0, which I prefer.  They will build to your specs and will sell you other weights if needed.  I have been very impressed with the irons.  Better feel than my PXG Gen 2s.

Different. They make some interesting clubs but never seen one in a bag.

I attribute this to access.  They aren't available in my area either and probably wouldn't have looked at them other wise.  I am so glad I was picked to test.  The are the real deal.  They are not a distance iron.  Very traditional in both feel and distance.

Neat. But the txg review said the weights were 2g/2g/8g. That's not enough weight to do anything. This is what I thought titleist was trying in that thread about JT's irons and the big center plug.

If you could get that center plug to free up about 50g or weight and then add that equally to the outside pieces then you're talking.

We are going to have them in northeast Ohio…and I agree it’s about access I think if we can get people to try these they will really like them..I’ve hit them and have a set of the normal heads coming and will combo with the tours I’m simply not good enough or should I say (play enough) to play pros all the way through I believe but we will see. Extremely interested to try the whole set. I’m going to put Modus 130’s in mine

Awesome!!  Keep us posted on how you make out.  The Pros have a little less offset, slightly thinner top and are solid vs hollow with foam.  I'm not sure how much, if any, it will impact performance.  Think it is more appeal.  I agree if more people would hit them, they would be surprised.  It is a solid performer.

I was a skeptic and also was thinking there’s no way a small weight shift will do much. But having played the 54T for a season and seen the results of many shots, I’ve concluded it does not work by moving raw weight and altering CG. it’s more about its impact on how the golfer swings the club.

It really does change the feel in your hands with the SMS wedges and you can feel it during the swing. If I put the 8g weight in the heel of the wedge, I feel the swing differently. I don’t know why such a seemingly small shift affects me, but it does. I think I have a swing path flaw in my wedge game and this club as configured somehow helps smooth it out. I know this: I am more accurate with my 54 degree and my swing with that club feels repeatable and contact is way more consistent.

Ian's ball speed was about 2-3 mph higher when they got the weight in the right place.

I wouldn't say it's not enough weight to do anything

IIRC, in that video they were talking about moving weight to "protect the strike " in the same way they do for drivers (and to a very small effect, 3ws). That increase in ballspeed is not significant enough to factor to weight in regards to strike location. I guarantee it has more to do with feel in transition and a small change in delivery.

Yep.  I saw it when I was testing them.  For me it was pretty clear which port did not work for me.

Been playing a combo set of SMS Pro and SMS for about 2 months.  Been extremely swamped with the launch so I'll stop slacking and get you guys some pics of the full set!
