Why did Matt leave TXG?

I hope Matt is doing alright. Anyone who has more info, do you know why they parted ways for the second time?

Anything to do with Club Champion buying TXG?

I wonder this as well. His channel never really took off when he went solo last time, and I found the TXG content went backwards big time. I actually stopped watching their videos as didn't enjoy them, and when Matt came back it was like a breath of fresh air. He has used the same reasons as last time (going his own way, mental health etc). I can only think it truly comes down to money, as they seemed to be really enjoying making content together again.

I'll do the community service task of transcribing the statement he posted on Instagram:

Quote

ANNOUNCEMENT

I have decided to pursue other opportunities and will no longer be working for TXG/Club Champion. I'd like to thank everyone for their amazing support over the years. I'll always look back on my time with the channel fondly.

This has been a difficult decision to make but ultimately I want to follow my ambition and build something of my own. I have big plans for my future involvement in both the golf industry and mental health space.

Stay tuned.

Read into that how you will.

Shame to hear that, he seemed to just slot back in really nicely. As others have said it just didn't quite work without him, it had the right mix of a curious golfer with an extremely knowledgeable fitter.

I only really watch TXG and Trottie now. Hopefully Ian can find someone who can bring a different dimension to the show.

He's definitely been wanting to do his own thing for a long time, I just think it didn't go well on his last stint due to failing mental health at the time. This time he seems in a much better place mentally.

It's too bad as him and Ian together make that channel what it is. It's never the same when it's the others.

Man that’s disappointing. I too stopped watching TXG until he came back. Curious what he’ll do from here on out.

Them together make the channel but Ian is what makes the black and white fitting knowledge the way it is. Matt knows a lot from working with Ian but Ian is the brains so to speak - and Matt is the machine.

Now that I think of it, it's been a while since CC bought TXG and I bet the transition to 'Club Champion Canada' rebrand is coming soon and maybe Matt again didnt mesh with their plans for a second time.

Who knows.

Ian did say that he wouldn't let it become "Club Champion Canada" when he signed the deal. It's always to remain TXG here to differentiate their styles as they use different fitting equipment and tech etc.

I agree that Ian is the driving force but without a guy like Matt on the other side meshing with him it makes it a lot less fun to watch. Mike is super knowledgeable but not as great on camera. Maybe they will pull some of their other fitters in the mold. John in Toronto would be great in front of the camera I think.

Wouldn’t surprise me if he ends up working for one of the major OEM in a content creator type role.  Something along the lines of Johnny Wunder and Callaway.  But maybe more control over content and production.   Possibly Mixuno or Tiltiest.

Just a random thought.

100% agreed on this point. I'm sad to see him leaving again, as the channel's vibe isn't the same without him there.

Bummer, was hoping to get some outdoor course vlog content from them this summer.  It’s fun to actually see them play real golf vs hitting balls into an impact screen off a mat all day everyday.

Agree, the TXG content went downhill after the first split and it mostly boiled down to on camera personalities over material.  I tried watching Matt’s channel after but he’s no soloist.  Him learning to play right handed was interesting for a minute.

Matt & Ian just pair so well together.

Soon after the abrupt comeback, I felt like we were getting a watered down medicated version of Matt.  He was a bit lower energy and had noticeable rings under his eyes.  He appeared to be getting better with time and BAM! another abrupt breakup.

Best of luck to both parties.

I wish the best for Matty, it definitely seems like it has probably been a mix of both personal and professional stuff for him. IIRC he took a leave of absence prior to the CC merger for mental health reasons, came back, then was out again when the CC merger happened, started his own channel, then came back, and is now out yet again. Personally I fell off the content because the number of times Matt's swing changed started to stress me out, hah. It seemed like he had a new swing/tempo/approach nearly weekly and I started feeling like I was learning less and less about equipment and more and more about what his swing changes were doing instead.

Matt has been working to get his foundation up and running. In a recent video, a live IIRC, there was a brief exchange between Matt and Ian about Ian doing something to support the foundation. I took this to mean the foundation was about to be granted approval to operate. I honestly believe this is why Matt left. After all, Ian and Matt frequently spoke of golf road trips they wanted to take this summer so I’m not sure I believe there was a falling out.

I just wish all parties well and much success.

When small companies like TXG are acquired by a larger, private equity owned company, everyone is told things won't change.  That doesn't last long. No matter what the original owners want or were lead to believe, they are now employees.  If the new owners want TXG to become CC Canada, that's what's going to happen.  I have no idea what the new owners want other than to build up the portfolio and sell it off when it's time to cash out the fund.

Changing it to CC Canada to me seems like a stupid idea, since while their physical locations are nice, the majority of the real value is in being a brand strongly associated with Ian.

Bingo!  Getting to chat with Ian at Modern Golf, then TXG, was a huge part of the appeal, and brand.  Small local

company with incredible service/builds.
