G430 Hybrid - Negative Experience?

tomathist

The G430 hybrids are good enough to knock one of the best hybrids ever made (Ping Anser) out of my bag. I played the Ansers for years and nothing could touch them until the 430's

Is anyone finding the g430 hybrids to be too long and low spin?

I have a 22* that I'm finding is hard to gap with after my 5 iron even in the + loft settings. I'm getting some low spinners that go 8-10yds further at times as well on top of the overall.

You can try a Ping G430 7wood instead. Much higher flight and more spin. I turned my G430 3Hybrid up to 20° and it's been pretty good. It doesnt fly as high as I would like but gets out there for sure.

Would probably need a 9 wood as this is between my 5i and 5w. Not about that 9w life yet, though.

I picked up a g430 hybrid after loving the driver / 3w. The driver with an AD IZ totally changed my tee game. However, I literally couldnt' hit the hybrid at all and I'm a pretty good ball striker.

Gave it a shot multiple times with different settings and shafts and took it head to head with a maltby hybrid im gaming and the ping hybrid just doesn't fit my game....

Loved the g430 lst fairway so figured I’d try the 3h as that’s an awkward spot in my bag that I’m always searching for.  Just has the stock shaft in it until the adapter I ordered came (putting a hzrdus rdx black 6.5 105 in it).

Hit it before my lesson today and wow I couldn’t believe how easy this thing was to hit. I’ve never gotten along with hybrids but started with this on the flat and -1 setting and unless I wanted to really draw it it did not want to hook on me. Ended up going back to just flat and standard loft. Will be interesting to see once I get my shaft in there but this thing has some pop.

I had a g430 5h on demo and liked it a lot but didn’t see enough difference over my 10 yr old trusty Exotics Xrail 5h and I can turn over the exotics easier.

I also bought the 430 6h in hopes of replacing my 6i but at the time I was fighting my swing and gave up on it. Would love to try it again with the HZRDUS red shaft instead of the Alta but  the first turn and burn was costly.

Put the 7 hybrid my bag to replace my 8 iron  at a strong 31 degrees but after using now for three weeks it’s a 8 yards longer. Also way more accurate. It feels head heavy but it’s a beast. Going to get the 5 and 6 and getting rid of the 6 and 7 Big Bertha currently in the bag.

I was farting around in Roger Dunn yesterday, and stumbled onto a clean used G430 17° in the 85s tour chrome shaft. I normally never hit, or even look at Ping clubs ... but I was just killing it. It smoked every other hybrid. I left, but couldn't stop thinking about how easy it was to hit, and did the unthinkable for me. I drove back and bought it paying retail. I didn't miss a fairway with it today on a tight course. Great club

I've had nothing but good things to say about the G425 and now the G430 22 - thought the 430 was a nice improvement. I have a TPT Hybrid shaft in mine - excellent.

I am currently playing a Ping 430 Max 5 wood, and then a Srixon ZX4 MKII 4 iron.  I have tested the 7 wood, and I am getting a few more yards with it than the 4 iron for sure, but nothing like needing a 9 wood.  I am going to order the 7 wood as there are plenty of times something that hits a sits is better than the 4 iron that lands shorter and runs a bit.

Try/test the 7 wood against your current 5 wood and 5 iron and see where it fits, it might surprise you.

Should have listened to the guys saying how hot the 430 is. Picked up a 4h hoping to replace the 4i and gap between a Callaway apex 3h and 5i, and the 430 4h goes as long as the apex 3h (but much lower flight). I do find it easier to hit than the apex so now I'm torn. Do I get rid of the apex and pick up a 430 5h.

this is why I hate buying new clubs. It’s never just one lol

Not a fan of the looks. Played boxier type hybrids in the past (apex pro). But this thing straight up performs, at least for me.

Not to torment you, but I LOVE my 430 5h. It’s like cheating. The older I get the more headcovers.

Just fit for a G430 2 hybrid with a slightly shorter shaft.

Love my TSi 5 wood but it was seriously spiny at 4600+.

The G430 hybrid managed spin way better at sub 3500.

I was definitely surprised how low spin this head is for how easy it is to hit.

I was avoiding the ALTA CB 70 shaft for 4H 22*, as it has the Nippon GOST shaft. However, I decided to buy 3H to replace the 18* G430 fairway, and this time, I love the ALTA CB 70 S for it. I wish Ping had the extra-stiff version of ALTA CB.

Now also ordered the 4 hybrid. I love my Titleist 818 but same story, the Ping just manages spin so much better.

I bought first the G430 5h.  Strangely, at the shop this was performing really well, I returned a paradigm hybrid that I bought first and didn't like it.  THe G430 is easy to hit straight...or at least it was in the shop.  On the course I have not bonded well with it.  Sometimes it's on, sometimes not.   They sold me with the Alta CB 70 shaft...and I don't know if I like it or not now that I have used it a while and comparing to my old TaylorMade 4h, it has a weird feeling to it..must be that counter-weight business I don't know.  But it feels stiffer then standard, even though its standard and just feels heavy and weird when using it during a round compared to my other clubs.  I'm still figuring it out.  I already had to set the lie to flat because on the course I was over drawing a lot.  That helps somewhat, but I still find it really difficult to line up the face and figure out how I'm supposed to hold it in my hand in order to hit straight shots...

I have been thinking about getting the 4h and 3W to compliment it...getting rid of my old ones which are long overdue replacing. At least I would have matching G430 feel fro 5h, 4h and 3W that way..and maybe I'll get used to that shaft better if they are all the same.  But I'm on the fence for now because I still just don't feel that comfortable with the 5h.  When I hit it well it definitely covers my 190-205 distances.  I think those complaining about roll out should use more loft and try to get a bit more height on it, make sure to release the club to use the loft.  When It's on, it flies the ball very well for me and makes my 200 yard approaches doable in a way I can't do with my 5i.  So that is good...but I admit I am still getting used to the shaft and the obvious draw bias.
