Driver Dilemma

caniac6

Recommended Posts

Did a Callaway fitting yesterday, and the Paradym  beat my current driver by a significant amount. The rep, when asked, said there is a new driver in the pipeline. We will soon be in cooler weather, and won’t be playing as much, so do I pay full price for a driver that will be replaced in a few months, or wait for the new one? Even if I don’t like the new one, the Paradym will be discounted when the new one is released.

Wait for the price discount. Paradym X and TSR 2 battled this year to a draw (no pun intended). Kept the Titleist in the bag as the Tensei is a shaft I get along with just a bit better that the Callaway stock HZRDUS.

I have a Titleist fitting in about 2 weeks. Really need to compare the Callaway to Titleist before deciding. I did a Mizuno fitting two weeks ago, and hit the newest driver, it wasn’t quite as long as the Callaway, but it was very straight.

This time of the year is the most sensitive time for buying new clubs. If you not are living Down Under.

the new material of the OEM is leaking very soon and many shops still have some stock of products that are very soon out dated. Maybe the first big price drop is only a week away… Black Friday is coming, the pro shops at the northern courses are closing for winter….

How much do you think you’d actually gain by jumping on the new model when it comes out? I’d buy the Paradym at a discounted price. The new model will be slightly different cosmetically but won’t be In performance.

Wait friend.  I have seen the new driver, and it will be worth a test.  The discount will be nice if you end up wanted to stick with Paradym.  Looks are on par, but some different tech.

Different tech?  UGH.  I was really hoping to stick it out with my Paradym TD until '25.  I HATE YOU, lol.

Close to 15 yards, and I can afford it, but really don’t want to waste money when a bit of patience could save significant money.

With that being said, if you order & receive the Paradym in the next week or so, how much will you get to hit it, use it, play it in a round? Or, will it torment you in the corner of your living room while you try to watch TV?

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

15 yards is a significant difference,  if it translates to real on course performance.

I have had clubs which I hammer in the LM or at the driving range, but on course when I'm not grooved hitting a ball ever minute the performance isn't as outstanding.

The other two questions I would consider,  is how long do you keep a driver?

And have you compared to other clubs already in their closeout cycle, like a Callaway Mavrik, or Ping 425?

Wait, try the new one when it comes out, then buy the old one at 30% off.

It’s your money do what you want.  I don’t care about them saying there is all this new tech in the new driver, OEMs have to meet the limits put in place by USGA, so I doubt you would realize another jump in performance.  Its marketing and golf manufacturers are good at it.  Now if looks were better to your eye, that’s another story.  If you live in a place where you won’t play much in the coming months, then waiting may be best.  I don’t think you will see a 30% drop in price, when Titliest came out with the TSR at $599, they dropped the price of TSi to $549.  Again this was a marketing thing, why by older version when for $50 I can get the latest release.

I have had my current driver, Ping 400 Max, for five years, and previous drivers probably as long. I have done other demo days, and there was not enough difference to consider changing. We have a Callaway fitting cart at the course, so I need to take a demo out to play to see if if the range transfers to the course. Also, we have a Titleist fitting day coming up, so need to see how their drivers compare to the Paradym.

Who are you kidding @phizzy30 you swap out shafts at least weekly. Are you really going to try to lie to us and yourself that you're not gonna change heads at least once per year? 😆

Also I just had to include the gif for the chuckles.

The paradym should still be available until late 2024 as far as I know, 2 year cycle.

if you aren’t playing through the winter then wait until Feb/March to test the new gear

Sadly, I know in my heart when a golfer posts a "should I buy" thread the actual question is meaningless with regards to the end result; another golf purchase.

One mustn't ask for the sake of seeking out advice of what to do. One simply asks for the purpose of hopefully staving off another golf purchase.... but alas.... the golf purchase will win. 😄

It would be most logical to wait and save money. Yet.... one must determine if they are asking because they want to buy.... or they are asking because they want to wait.

So..... which fate awaits you? 😄

PS. Sorry.... some of this may be the whiskey talking.........................

Yep. The heart wants what the heart wants. I've made these posts. And I'm usually reading the ones that justify my new club fever and dismissing those that take a measured approach, lol!

So the Paradym is 15 yards longer?  That's great, but it's doubtful that the new Epic Rogudym (or whatever they will call it) will be 30 yards longer.

Wait a couple of months, save a couple hundred bucks.

OR the best option I think is as someone said, to wait and buy like-new PO during the BF sale.

Another vote for waiting and getting like new from Callaway cpo during black Friday sale here. Sounds like you have an off-season like me, so wait and get a driver you know performs for a better price than buying it now.

We got first world problems...sigh

I'm rowing the same boat tho.  I told the rep flat out, that I didn't see how it was possible to improve on the Paradym TD.  His response was, yeah but we did.
