What's the most forgiving 5-wood out there?

RCGA

Recommended Posts

Looking for the most forgiving, easy to hit 5 wood on the market. Ideally with minimal gear effect on toe hits.

Having a hard time finding something that doesn't hook off the planet. For whatever reason, fairway woods are the only thing that causes me to have  massive roping draw.

Ping G430 Max 10.5* w/ GD Tour AD TP
Ping G410 Plus 9*  w/ GD Tour AD DI

Srixon ZX MkII 19* & 24* w/x100
Titleist T100s w/ PX 6.5

Vokey SM9 48-52-56-61 w/ PX 6.5

Scotty Cameron Pro Platinum Mil Spec

No gear effect on toe hits is the killing factor…

most fairway woods out there, that are MAX models with high levels on forgiveness, but they are also mostly draw biased and the toe hit will make it even more drawing

I play a Taylormade Stealth 2 HD with an upcharge shaft. This one is for dummies with the fairway but the toe hit goes left for sure.

PXG Gen6 XF. Big forgiving head, can be lofted down to open the face, there a flat settings on the hosel which will help, and a weight can be put in the toe. I can't think of a better option for what you are looking for.

I think the Pings from G25 onwards are very forgiving clubs.
I have a G425 5 wood which is amazingly long and straight. Before that I used a G25 4 wood which was long and straight as well.  Most importantly, total repeatability with each club.
I briefly used the G400 ,which was also very serviceable, but I didn’t like the head shape too much so I went back to the G25 before getting the G425.

I would recommend any fwy wood you can set the lie flat

Ping g430 Stupid forgiving off the toe and set flat with a slightly open face. It will control your left miss.
Titleist TSR2 not quite as forgiving as the Ping, but this can also be set flatter and open.
PXG Gen 6 very forgiving and also has the option of setting it flat and slightly open.

TM Stealth + model. Not as forgiving, but can be set up with an open face. Distance wise may be longest on the market.

Based on a couple of hybrids in my bag, I am guessing that the TSR1 18* fairway wood could be forgiving.  Not with the lightweight shaft, but with a good fairway shaft and heavier head weight, or playing it +1/2".

Spend more money on a Ping or Stealth if you want what everyone else plays.

Or..save the money on a TEE that will perform as good or better than the more expensive recommendations.

I'd love to see a blind test of all the fairway woods out there in the last few years..my money is more people would walk away with TEE than any other major manufacturer.

Are Ping and Titleist fairway woods good? Yep no doubt. Do they perform on the golf course any better than TEE fairway woods? Not at all.

Find yourself an old Tour Edge Exotics XCG 4 or 5 wood, in good condition.  I have the 16.5' 4 wood in storage, but it was in the bag for years.  They are incredibly easy to hit and long.

If you're hooking it's more than likey the shaft profile, not the head, unless it has a noticeable offset.

Of course here on wrx we do consider resale value.  TSR fairways are $349 vs Tour Edge C series are $329.

TEE...pick a model from the last 5 years or so. Stay away from the Hot Launch models if you're a hooker. Stick with any Exotics. Tour Edge pre owned has plenty off options for cheap.

Point and shoot..made in USA..lifetime warranty...in expensive..nothing performs any better.

I say if you can't hit an Exotics wood, you need some lessons.

I second this.  The C722 has been awesome for me.  One club that is safe in the bag.  TEE fairways and hybrids are as good as any out there.
