What’s worse if you don’t. Loud Radio or pot smoking on course?

Recommended Posts

I don't have a problem with weed smoking on the course unless they are puffing away right next to me in a shared cart. Recreational weed is legal in my state, though I don't partake. I usually play early AM and the weed smokers (and the drunks) don't seem to come out until later in the day. Sometimes if I play a solo afternoon bonus round I'll come across a group of them parked in the shade just hanging out in a daze near a tee box and they wave me though. Incidentally they are usually also listening to music in the cart.

My preference is no music on the course but ultimately I can tune it out and not have it affect my game regardless of genre or volume.

Going to agree that LOUD music is way worse than smoke. People have smoked cigarettes and cigars on the course for as long as golf has been played. You can distance yourself easily. Sound travels and competes with other sound.

Agree. Nothing worse than loud music. Also extremely rare to hear good music. Most of the time it's drunks listening to classic rock or pop country.

No comparison! Weed, by all means. And I'll try to get downwind from you for the contact high.  I played last week with a guy from Arkansas who was riding in a cart and playing some kind of Arkansas rock and roll country western reggae rap music. I just couldn't putt to it...

FINLAND !!!

I have golfed in Finland. Was very nice. The people didn’t seem happier than other countries I’ve been to (31 now).

Here's the course I played - it was near to Uusikaupunki -  quite nice and we had a great meal in the clubhouse with my host atfterward. https://ugk.fi

Cigars are way more irritating. People take a few hits of weed and they are good. Cigars last several holes, Ashes on the green. Butts on the fairway. How are you going to stay away from playing partners for several holes? If you cried to me about weed while smoking a cigar I'd tell you to GFY.

I don't smoke anything and you maybe accurate on the duration but cigar smoke is tolerable, even borderline pleasant at times.  Weed smells horrible.

And this is exactly why you join a private club.

First, to avoid the Karen’s in this thread who want to “play alone” or “stay away from us” ….

Second, if you’re paired up with someone who partakes in either and you don’t want to, several things can happen:

1. You see their name on the tee sheet next time and play with someone else in another time slot.

2. You let your pro know of the conduct, via email and tough it out during your round. They usually will get a playing privilege warning for abusing either activity.

3. We give you the option (which we always do) of what music (if any) they want to listen to, as long as it’s not blaring or disturbing golfers who aren’t in your group. Weed on the other hand, is at their choice/discretion as is anything else they want to smoke.

Well, I keep the music contained.  Drink beers and if the spirit moves me, maybe a toke or two.  Really depends on the situation.

I play private.  Don’t want to be with the riff raft who don’t know how to do it.

Probably a bit more relaxed down here, but it's pretty common to have a little of everything on the course you guys have mentioned.  Unless it gets out of hand or the course is abused, there's not much point getting your panties in a bunch.  I fully agree that drunks are the worst offenders to ruining everyone's day.

I play music when alone, or with the younger crowd who don't seem phased by it (some actually are relieved and encourage it).  I play golf to have fun and chill out, never understood why there's got to be so much aggro on a course.  Maybe those people should take a puff 😎

Illegal drugs.  I don't know if I can test positive from second hand, but I'm not willing to risk my job over it.  I would not play anywhere near someone smoking pot.

Loud music is worse.  Funny thing is that I listen to music on the course but don't partake in the devil's lettuce.

I like music on the course played at a reasonable volume, and I actually enjoy the smell of both weed and cigars but dont smoke.

For me the WORST is competing music, even at low volume.  We occasionally someone fires up a second speaker and now there are 2 songs that I like, but I can't enjoy either.

I've been partnered with a person that smoked weed a couple of different times.

They asked me if I wanted any and I said no thanks.

2 of them went to the bushes like they were going to take a leak, and puffed a little.

When they got back to he cart you could barely smell it .

They were cool. Grinned a lot and bought a bunch of food at the turn .

I had to drive so they could eat.

They smoked for 20 seconds , maybe 3 times during 18 holes.

No problem, very respectful.

Most of the time the ones with the music will be playing some kind of loud gangster rap that you can hear from 5 fairways over.

That bothers me.

The drunks usually all hang together.

I stay away.

The weed guys usually just think everything is cool and have a nice relaxed putting stroke .

If I had a Cheech and Chong guy in the cart with me, that would be a problem.

Someone that just fogs up all over everyone.

Neither of them bother me. I prefer music but try to be respectful of others when I approach other groups. However there is some seriously uptight people on the golf course and get all sorts of butt hurt when people play music.

Smoking is what it is. Especially if it’s legal. Growing up in Oregon and having alot of buddies that have businesses in that area I could care less. Obviously I don’t want it blown in my face or want to be hot boxed but do your thing. Definitely prefer that over a drunk Word not allowedholes.

I had a best friend growing up who legit played night and day golf when he smoked while golfing. He played way better baked out of his gord!😂😂😂

No one gets butthurt when music is played quietly enough for others to not hear.  If you have people getting butthurt it is most certainly not at a respectful volume.

The people I've encountered playing music are always playing it from a power cart. I think their idea of playing music is so they can listen to it on the tee-box, on the fairways and on the green when they are putting.  I don't think they know quietude in their life. Guessing they don't know or listen to the sounds of nature. Imagining there is always music going, all day, all the time.

I’d disagree. To each their own though if you wanna blast music during your round go for it. Doesn’t bother me one bit. I try to turn it down around other groups but we all paid money to play and unless the Marshall or course says something I have no problem with it. However 99% of the time the people playing the music loud are drunk off their Word not allowed and could care less about others at that point or if someone says turn it down.

I'm just not one to let anything other than slow play bother me on the course especially noises. My group constantly talks while we are hitting and it doesn’t bother anyone in the group.

Typically in my experience it’s always carts and you’re spot on about wanting to hear the music when away from the cart. My playing group definitely blasts music but try to be considerate of others when pulling up to a tee box or if someone’s putting.

I would say loud music is the worse of the 2 and I HATE the smell of weed. Your senses will eventually adapt to the smell, but music would be ever present.
