What’s worse if you don’t. Loud Radio or pot smoking on course?

Recommended Posts

  • gticlay changed the title to What’s worse if you don’t. Loud Radio or pot smoking on course?

When I am with my wife, we play a radio very low...not loud enough to bother anyone, but LOUD radio is as irritating as weed.  If I were to see a playing partner smoking weed, I'd tell him/them to stay far away from us.  I purposely stay away from people if they have issues with cigar smoke as well.

Loud radio. I don’t mind music on the course but keep it to your group.

I've got no problems if I was grouped with Cheech and Chong but the loud music irritates me as if I'm at a LIV Golf event.

Loud music, sometimes. There are times when playing for fun I don't mind. Other times when playing for money or in a club event I mind.

The other subject.  I par take in the smoke. Vape only. I have nerve issues in the neck and hands and tendonitis in the elbow. Just a little on each 9 helps tremendously. I find the alcohol drinkers to be more noticable and bothersome. Most of the time I don't notice or care.

Only gets better, loud music, pot smoking and "work from home" people playing during weekdays, add a sprinkle of checking email  and voicemail looking for a 5+ hour round. After all what else do they do?

The work from home crowd is brutal.

Radio is worse. Weed is aggravating but I encounter is rarely on the course. I encounter it all the time driving TO the course, or anywhere else these days.  I don't understand why police seem to do zero about that.

I did play with one guy a couple of years ago who was hammering the weed hard. He got really loopy. At one point he just took a leak right off the side of a very exposed and visible tee box.  And he kept offering me to partake even after I repeatedly said no.

Right after WA legalized it a guy passed out in the parking lot while driving to work at my home club. His foot was on the gas pedal and he hit my car and about 6 others. I’ll never forget how high in the air his Jeep flew. My car was totally destroyed and the axle of the truck next to me blew off the truck into the next car. Watched the whole thing happen from the chipping green. He then threw a large bag of it out the window and ran over to the building. Police said nothing they could do about it. Maybe that’s part of what irritated me so much yesterday. The people were really nice and friendly but smoked almost the whole round.

Experience has shown me that there are "respectful" and "disrespectful" ways to do a lot of things in this world.

Most of the time and ideally, if things are done "respectfully" - no one else will know that you are doing them.

Too much alcohol is way worse than either.

For me, it would be alcohol>music>weed.

I love a bit of music while playing, but I don't want to hear dubstep remixes from 2 holes over.

... I am honestly a little shocked by this thread. I have never and I mean never had a problem with anyone smoking weed on the course. Never got paired up with an a-hole getting high but hundreds of drunks over the last 40 years have made for less than fun rounds. I imagine if anything weed partakers are more chill than normal. Otoh I have seen too much alcohol cause several physical altercations because of it. I would add to that cigar smokers on the course (which I loathe robbing me of fresh air) can be smelled from 2 fairways away and usually going all round long while dropping ashes on the greens instead of hitting a jay/vape a few times over 18 holes. Music too LOUD is always a problem regardless of content. But the biggest issue is LOUD and BAD music. As a form of art, music is very subjective and I completely understand someone loving Rap/Country while I don't wanna hear either.

I’ve never seen an altercation on a golf course that would have occurred without excess alcohol being involved. Never.

In the last two years, I’ve seen someone roll a golf cart on purpose in front of the clubhouse and then fight the owner (who came out, justifiably mad as all hell!), a cart drive halfway across a green before making a panicked full-lock turn (destroying the green), and a cart buried in a green side bunker fender-deep. Drunks on a golf course are the worst

^^^ Doubtful.

The whole point is that someone can smoke weed if they want to and not only is it not bothersome, half the time no one else even notices.

And this is exactly why you join a private club.

First, to avoid the Karen’s in this thread who want to “play alone” or “stay away from us” ….

Second, if you’re paired up with someone who partakes in either and you don’t want to, several things can happen:

1. You see their name on the tee sheet next time and play with someone else in another time slot.

2. You let your pro know of the conduct, via email and tough it out during your round. They usually will get a playing privilege warning for abusing either activity.

3. We give you the option (which we always do) of what music (if any) they want to listen to, as long as it’s not blaring or disturbing golfers who aren’t in your group. Weed on the other hand, is at their choice/discretion as is anything else they want to smoke.

My votes.

Smoke Weed yes. I do it discretely and it bothers nobody.

Play Music no. I have played decades of golf with no music around so I find it sort of distracting regardless of volume level.
