Min Woo Lee - WITB - 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge

The knuckle neck on that Six shape putter is so awesome. The six is similar to the Toulon Memphis and CPO has (had?) them in a tour issue knuckle neck and I picked one up - such a point and shoot putter with perfect toe hang and looks down at the ball for a small D-mallet.

Interesting that he goes from DG X100 in his irons to NSPRO Modus 3 120 Stiff in his wedges.

Also has heavier shaft in 3 wood than hybrid.

Wouldn't lighter shafts cause his launch to go a lot higher? I thought most tour guys talk about trying to hit their wedges as low as possible, I could be wrong

Lighter shafts won't always make launch higher.  Most tour guys try to hit their wedges lower for better distance control.

a lot of people think that everyone should go heavier in wedge shafts but most would do better with lighter IMO.  I think this is a pretty extreme example from a flex/stiffness example but its more common than many think.

Why go lighter?  Min Woo is probably maybe a handful of tour pros that goes lighter in wedges.  He probably likes the kick/load of the Modus 120S and how much it spins.

I was about to say the same thing. I wonder why. Maybe it's the seam -- it's basically a rib, which is great for clubs where just about every shot is with a square face, but potentially problematic on wedges where he'd want to open/close them? That's my best guess at least, but if anybody knows or has other thoughts, I'm curious.

Isn't a 16.5 is 4 wood? Why would they call it 3 wood HL ?

16.5 is a tweener between 3 and 4 metal strictly speaking from a loft perspective hence why they're labeled 3HL.

The 16.5 3HL is supposed to be the same length club as a standard 15 3 wood (around 43") with more loft.  A real 4 wood would also be more loft, 16.5-17.5 and about a 1/2" shorter in length.  I believe the length of the club is the difference maker between a "4 wood" and a "3 HL".

Generally same head size/volume/weight with a 3 and 3hl as well, whereas a standard 4wd would be heavier and slightly smaller in volume. I haven’t checked Min Woo’s specs, but I’m guessing he plays this 3HL shorter than stock length given how heavy that shaft is. Could be wrong, just a guess, but ik he naturally launches the ball very high so I’m guessing he can get away with going with a shorter shaft with that loft and almost playing it like a true 4wd (probably doesn’t have to add much weight back to the head with how heavy the shaft is though)

He does seem to favor shafts that load a decent amount, especially given his ludicrous speed.

Personally I like lighter shafts in wedges so they can be played longer. All my wedges are around +1.25" and lighter shafts help keep that from getting too hefty feeling.
