Back spasms not going away. Sharp, stabbing pain in my lower right since day 2 of the SCGA Senior Am, which was almost three weeks ago. I can sit. I can walk straight, but any kind of bending or twisting side-to-side is immediate, stabbing pain.

I'm supposed to play the Pasadena City Senior next week, and there's virtually no chance I will be able to.

I'm in SoCal too.. I can't recommend SCOI, Southern California Orthopedic Institute highly enough, My wife and I have both treated there. Before she retired, my wife was a worker's comp claims adjuster and she sent many claimants to SCOI. PM me if you would like me to ask my wife to see if she can recommend a specific back doctor. I am more than likely facing the same problem around the L-2 from where I broke it in 2020. In fact the Docs told me to expect it down the road. Last week somehow, I pulled the muscle that runs below my right shoulder blade. I did go to my Neurosurgeon. I was worried it may be linked to the permanent nerve damage in my L-2. Was no structural damage and not nerve related. I have laid back for a week only chipping and putting. I have a 2 day event next week. I did hit about 30 or so full swing wedges today and feel ok for now. I am going to make darn sure. I am forgoing my normal Saturday Par3 round and I do not play golf on Sunday anyhow. I will not play the small money game Monday but will hit balls and evaluate my situation.

Yeah I know how it is because I wondered in 2020 if I would ever play again. Hope you get better

I've been where you are.  You will make it through.  Yes, you may need to hang up the sticks for a minute, but with time, STRETCHING and strengthening your core.  You will be back before you know it!!  Hang tough buddy, I know it sucks right now.   Seek either physical therapy, a really good chiropractor and/or massage therapy also while doing the stretching and strengthening of the core.  Slow and steady

My experience with Senior tournament golf has been a long sad story of endless aches and pains.  The little injuries take forever to heal.  I have to be careful in the gym because a minor strain is a full week of limping around or not being able to raise my arm over my head. Sneezing can be life threatening and indigestion is my constant companion.  My mental focus on the course is like a breeze that changes directions constantly.  I had to get reading sunglasses to read the scorecard and my GPS watch.

 

This getting old is definitely not for sissies.

Father time is undefeated.  I used to hit wooden driver with steel shafts about 280 yds in my younger days on a good day.  Measured my driver swing speed at a pedestrian 83 mph today.   My shoulder has something going on.  Maybe rotater cuff.  Need a 7h.  Lol.

We’ve talked before. You have the same problem that I had. If you were to do a Google search on my username, that’s the surgery you probably need to have. Although mentally it can be hard to accept that that’s what you need. The only way to go is to become anorexic, well not really, but I think you know what I mean. And then if that doesn’t help all the way, L5, S1 ALIF like tiger and me. I’ve made a 100% recovery. Ball speed back to the low 160s. I’m 54 years old. Anyway, I know what it feels like. It sucks. Hope you get better!

if you feel depressed just remember it's a privilege to get old...my best friend lost his 5 year old daughter to DIPG 3 years ago, the same cancer Villegas daughter died from. just heal up and look forward to golf in the future, good luck buddy!

Hope they can sort you out at the PT. Two devices I'll point you to as I've seen some decent info on their effectiveness back when I was more active in health tech. There were already studies being run back then and they've completed even more clinical trials since. First may be the best fit with the chronic nerve pain/sensitivity you're having.

I have back issues as well so I feel your pain, literally.  Herniated L5 and L6 and one of the middle discs is bulging.  Get well and live to fight another day!  The AM tournaments can wait.  Btw, say hi to Kevin Fitz for me next time you see him, lol.

Playing golf today.. had a nice good ole severe spasm in my upper right back during sleep. You know just the  good ole youshh body pain before a round lol

I had surgery in February for stenosis in lumbar spine.  Best decision I've ever made.  4 months later I'm playing my best golf in years.  I was having trouble with normal daily activities (walking, sitting, sleeping, etc).  Good luck to you.  Since you know what your issues are, you've most likely already seen a surgeon.  PT only made my condition worse.  Hopefully it will help you.

Likely have much different physical issues but was dealing with lower right back/hip pain for a long time and after finally going to Doctor/PT was determined to be an issue with very tight hamstrings and imbalance in strength in my left adductor muscle.  Some pt with strengthening, stretching and foam rolling helped me a ton.

My hamstrings are ridiculously tight. And my right more so than my left.

I was trying to figure out what I could say that might make you feel better or could be helpful. The only thing I came up with is... 

Everywhere I've ever dreamed of going, my body will take me there. Therefore I try to respect my body. 

So maybe if you could be nicer to your body it'd be able to get you back in top notch form soon as possible. F & G's and thanks for the chipping help!
