How close to an Ace have you come?

Hit 3 flag sticks though, one from 138 yards that carromed into a bunker and 2 that got caught in the flag.

Left a pretty nasty ball mark on the edge of the cup once but ended up 10 feet from the cup.

Divot on the cup's edge. Half in, half out. Everyone congratulated me on a kick in birdie as it ended up about half an inch from the cup after bouncing up into the stick and out of the hole.

I was angry.

Get up to a 165 yard par 3 one morning. Greenskeeper rides up on his quad to move the flag. He decides to wait and waves us to hit. I hit and its right at the hole, bounces once and sits beside the hole. The greenskeeper yells OOOOOOOOHH and almost falls off his quad. We get up to the hole and he tells me it one bounced into the hole disappeared and came back out. We couldn't tell that from the tee, almost wish he hadn't told me as I have never had one in 40+ years of golfing.

at my parent's club, #11 - 145 yards was playing slightly down wind from a slightly elevated tee box. hit a 9 iron 8 yards past the flag using the backstop for spin…ball starts tracking, tracking, tracking….lipper turns 90 degrees and shoots by 10 feet

Had one roll by less than 3 inches to the left and settled about a foot away behind the hole

I got my first one this past Saturday! 163yds downhill, downwind. I hit 9 iron.

1976— played Waveland on Chicago's lakefront with a group of strangers, 3rd hole, 175, hit my trusty Macgregor Tourney FC4000 3-iron (the ones with the black painted face), beeline draw, stops 1 ft short of the hole.

Same day, I'm now playing the course solo, same hole I hit the exact same shot, and again it ended up 1 ft short.

Though it being 1976, I might have been tripping.

1- Left about 1/4" hanging over the lip after in bounded off a back ridge behind the green.
2- Hit the pin on a 309 yard par 4, left 9" for eagle.
3- 144 yard island par 3 green, two in the water, next in the hole. NIce 5.

Bonus: Had a "2" on a par 5 with a reload from the fairway...

How about this one:

#2 par 3 at a local course, hit a high fade which the wind carried even more right, ball gets lost in the tall pine tree right of the green. It pinballs through the branches and shoots it onto the green...to literally 1" from the hole. Closest I've ever been to a hole-in-one and it was a terrible push-fade 7-iron that if that tree were not there would have been 20 feet off the green in the rough!

Saw a guy last week while in Hawaii come within 4" inches and it was a 190 yard shot into a 2 club wind. Ball was directly behind the hole so it touched the hole but lipped out. Great shot and ohhhh so close.

Today got within 6". My partner hit a great shot on the hole as well as you see his ball was 10 feet behind the hole.

Other than the two that accidently went in, I guess the closest was several inches past the hole. The most recent was on a 235 yard par 3 where my drive must have rolled really close because the threesome in front watched it and were going nuts.

Winter golf last year, 9 iron from 142 out, heard a strange sound when the ball landed. Ended up about 5 feet away. When I got up to the hole I saw where the ball had hit, and why I heard that sound (the mark in the top right of the cup...the other two are from the flag stick resting on the cup, as they stay out all winter).

I've had several tap in's but never a hole in one at least not in regulation. I've hit a second shot only because I wanted too and hit it in on the fly, couldn't count it as it was nice to do it as my 1st shot was for a birdie. Had my A game that day.

I actually hit one that had the ball mark on the edge of the hole like yours, it bounced off the flag stick into the greenside bunker. Ended up with a bogey! lol

I've hit thousands of aces in my head. In real life? I've come within two or three feet of the pin.

I've never had one, but I've had a few flagsticks, and a couple of tap ins inside 6 inches. I'm convinced I'll never have one.

I have had a few lip outs, and a few end up tap ins, like most people. Playing with my father a few years back, he had one fly into the cup, and then go out. When we got up to the hole, it had been severely chewed up! In July, my family and I went to Ireland, I am currently 15 years old, and never had an eagle, nor putted for one. On a big par five, I sent a drive screaming that probably rolled a 100 yards. Having 250 to the pin, I decided to hit the 3 wood, figuring a perfectly placed shot would roll onto the green, if it could get through all the bunkers that guarded the green. I hit a pretty solid 3 wood (not flush) going right where I wanted it, and watched as it traveled onto the green. Just as it crept closer to the pin, it disappeared. I figured it had rolled over the green to a lower part behind the green. But as I looked into the cup, it was in! Albatrosssssss.
