Im self taught (guitar) and played in bluegrass bands growing up. If you know much about traditional bluegrass (this is long before David Grisman et al) you’ll know it’s mainly G, C and D, with an occ F or Am thrown in. Lots of bass runs. I learned to take solo licks but nothing resembling the complexity of my guitar hero’s or prob many here.  Finally bought my first good guitar at Mandolin Bros in 1977 ish, then like an idiot took it on an extended 6 mos trip to Europe. It was a herringbone D28 Martin with a few blems and a good deal. Stuck “See Arkansas First” and “Fly Freddie Laker” (anyone here remember that?) stickers on the case. Still have the guitar and stickers are intact.
 

You haven’t lived until you schlep a guitar in plastic case across countless trains and hostels. I played on street corners of countries from Ireland to Sweden to Greece.  I even occ made enough change for beer money but learned how to branch out and develop new licks and styles.  Fingerstyle, jazz, bossa nova/samba….  A buddy with a Gibson E335 taught me how to bend strings beginning the next phase. 
 

Somewhere along the line I started collecting electric guitars and amps. I was in love (still am) with classic tube amps and various combinations of single coil or humbucker pickups. Many here I’m sure can sympathize how addictive this can get. And fiddles and mandolins.  Electric one too as I wanted to sound like Johnny Gimble.  A few years ago, when I finally came to my senses I surveyed the stash and realized I had an obscene and embarrassing amount of musical instruments, many of which I never used.  So started selling most of them, and gave a few to my kids. Meanwhile I’ve switched from building boats to guitars so hopefully I can somehow manage to sell or give them away and not start all over. 
 

Music is a big part of my life. Can’t imaging being without it.

I lived in Nashville for 5 years in the 80’s. The talent was so deep there were studio guys better than anyone you ever heard who couldn’t get a record deal. You didn’t dare go to open mike on Broadway or Station Inn unless you had major chops. Seems like it’s still that way when we go back to visit, except country isn’t King alone anymore. Still a big deal but you can find amazing talent in just about any genre.

I'm intent on spending time in Nashville, my daughter's childhood friend lived there for a year. The bar scene looks insane great.

Great 2nd win in round 2 for the Knicks. Best story in basketball. Brunson is legendary in his performance. The team is down dirt gritty and tough. Fun to be a fan.

I did a 1/2 dozen recording sessions. Dollars are burning, need to nail it pretty quick. Did a master class with a session drummer in NYC. He played on dozens of big records. Made a great living.  Read a chart, have an arranger's ear and get it done in two takes. Porcaro give much respect, uncanny sense. There might be 20 guys in the world who could play "Rosanna" as good as him.

Porcaro talks about how he blended purdy shuffle with bonham's "Fool In the Rain" groove. Toto nailed the song in the 2nd take. those guys were freaking good. I never ever pay attention to keyboards, but that guy was brilliant with his solo spot.

Yeah, "Fool In the Rain" is probably my very favorite drum track ever recorded. 

 

I'm sure you've seen what I consider my lil tribute to Bonzo when we do this tune ... Bonham triplets all over but a shameless "Rock N Roll" rip at 00:12 ...

The irony of Bonzo was that he was held as the ultimate heavy drummer but truth was more that he had a very jazzy feel to his playing. Lots of syncopation &, ghost notes. Iconic dude. Zeppelin's 1st six albums are stunning in how much they laid down, what a catalogue. There's band's that were good for one or two records, bofo if they had three, they blew it out for six. 7th & 8th a bit of letdowns. Page may have twanged onstage in a heroin stupor but in the studio, none more prolific.

His stellar swing is so often missed! Stairway is a great example. Ya don't really think of that as a swingin tune but man ... when he finally comes in, there it is. 

 

In the Kennedy Center concert where Jason plays it ... he doesn't quite have it. 

 

 

You can totally hear the lead guy (dunno his name) trying to pull it out but it never happens.

You good Grillers from the other side of the big waters are obviously more cultivated musically than this one from the other side of the big water. I was pop punk 1976 and still am… listening as well as playing

 

My young ones took their old man to a Green Day Concert for my 60th, It made me feel like I did something right after all…

I play the V1's and I've never found a wedge that suits my game better, and they last forever. If for some reason you don't like 'em, let me know. I'm always looking for stock. On another note, be sure to tip the shafts 5/8" before installing or else they will be softer than Ramen.

I've been to the Americana Music Awards (in Nashville) a half-dozen times, and am always blown away by musicians and bands I've never heard of. If anyone gets the chance, it's definitely worth the trip to expand your musical library.

so, my primary care doctor's office called asking if i wanted to make an appointment for a yearly physical and refill any prescriptions.

 

the practice was bought by optum a year ago. i already whined about that. the requirement to stay for a year is expiring, and all 3 docs are leaving.

 

picking up my records the same day. 🙂

Fun story, a customer from peru needed some parts, 2 1/2 weeks ago we sent the parts fedex overnight. Well they lost the package and could not find it, so Tuesday I sent another duplicate package DHL and it got there today, at exactly the same time as the fedex package, of course fedex tracking says it is in Memphis....wtf...

Since Fedex spends around 65 million a year sponsoring golf, they had to cut back on the way they track.

dhl is awesome.

 

i needed parts for my 3d system from china. just the flight from beijing to la was 13 hours, through customs and at my door in arizona in about 24 hours.

 

always use them for things to europe.

ever wonder why there so much salt in processed foods?

 

all the chemicals are powders made in industrial plants with metal vats, mills, pipes, troughs.

 

a lot of salt needs to added in the final processing of the foods (also in metal production lines) to mask the metallic taste it would have without it. it would taste like a mouthful of nuts and bolts, otherwise.

fun fact, the producers of my cousin vinny wanted to cut marisa tomei. they thought she was terrible.

Thanks, makes sense, the sodium in processed, canned, basically anything that you don’t make yourself is horrifying 

 

We noticed even canned plain beans have a ton of sodium added. Gotta pay extra to buy freakin beans with no salt bastids!

I am on doc 5 in 4 years. Doc 1 sold out to the hospital and they fired me because I had not been back for 2+ years. Said I was no longer a pt. of record and they were not taking new pts. Loved doc 2 but he decided to specialize in "mens health" and said I needed a new GP. I thought a good GP should be able to do "mens health" in addition to  my wellness visit.  Found #3 that could do that. Saw him one time and got a letter that he was leaving town.  Took my dad' to an internist when he moved here from Az. I liked him so started seeing him. Got the letter he was leaving town. Now seeing a very young replacement in that practice.  Seems smart and personable and is an internist as well.  Holding my breath waiting for the next letter. I'm really not that bad of a patient although I did inject my Morton's Neuromas and did a digital block and removed my own ingrown big toenail.

optum bought many family practices near me. when i said i'd be picking up my records, the woman who called me said she understood. she offered up that they will only have one new doc to remotely cover 3 locations as the primary licensed provider, and there will be only 2 pa's in the office and new hire kids to take vitals.

 

my doc is moving up to prescott, so i have to find someone new. he is/was great. spent time in middle east in trauma fulfilling his obligation with the navy, which paid for med school. competent, calm, collected, cool.

about 7 years ago i got a nasty cut on my arm from a shelf in the office. we had some silverware in the little kitchen area. i took a knife, borrowed a lighter, then cauterized it, stuck a bandaid on and went back to my office. i thought my customer support guy was going to pass out.

 

i muttered something about learning to improvise in the army.

Any good geezer advice for treating muscle cramps?  Just had my annual wellness visit. Labs are very good. I have asked all my last few docs and gotten the usual advice. Drink more water, magnesium supplements, stretch and massage.  Also some friendly non-professional advice like drink pickle juice. Nothing seems to really help. 

 

I learned several years ago to not point my toes to stretch in the morning or my calf muscles would cramp. So I then pointed my toes back toward my knee and that helped but then started getting cramps on the front side of the leg. I have had the hamstrings badly cramp as well. Not just feet and legs but even back and side muscles if say climbing on a ladder and twisting to hang a light fixture. I have never had cramps playing golf-knock on wood.

 

The worst were cramps that happened at just the wrong time near the moment of marital bliss. The first time my reaction was misinterpreted as pleasure when it was really hop out of bed agony.  We had a good laugh. I know, TMI but true story.

 

But seriously, I would like to find a cure as it is worse each year and now Mrs. scotee is getting muscle cramps as well.  

 

Coming up on 72 next week may be the problem but if by chance I am not alone and you have an answer, I will be grateful.
