They honestly thought it was "best" to tell him now, in the final round, that he is on notice that he may or may not face a penalty at the end of the round. This is so beyond stupid it is pathetic. I cannot imagine how they could possibly think that their telling him that would not negatively affect his play.

 

Another example, USGA...

Man is being tested for cancer. Doc tells him "we will know once we do a little surgery tomorrow. Now get some rest."

 

That is essentially what they did to DJ.

 

"Continue playing and focus. Don't worry about it because it might not matter anyway because we may or may not assess a penalty against you when all is said and done."
